Love this place! Folks are clueless about marketing but the food and sincerity are 100%. Eat there when ever I’m on that road whether I’m hungry or not. Only homemade onion rings in 100 miles

After being dissapointed with my experience at the Big Moose Deli the week prior, I decided to stop here at Tammy’s Candy Kettle. Ok… I haven’t had a burger of this quality in many years. As I ate, I heard a gentleman raving about his sandwich. The prices are fair and the ¼ pound black Angus with chedder, Was very filling for around $ 5.00 and WOW!!! I gave it 4 stars because I based it on my one meal. The waitress and owners make you feel at home. This will be my new stop on my way to Vermont.

I saw this place as I was driving from VT into NY on a short road trip with my father a few weeks ago, we were starving and saw the big sign advertising big ½ lb burgers, so we decided to try it out on a hunch that they’d have a good burger. And we were right. They make burgers up to 2 lbs with all sorts of great toppings. I got a ¾ lb burger and my dad got a ½ lb one. They were excellent, hands down best burger I’ve had in my life, the meat was amazing and juicy and their fries were excellent as well. Our server, Anna, was very nice and hospitable. We were the only ones there and we thought the wait was kind of long to get our food from the time we ordered, but this isn’t McDonald’s, the food is made to order not already made when you get there, and it’s definitely worth the wait for REAL, good food. When we told our server that we’d likely be back she gave us the phone number and told us that we could call ahead so we wouldn’t have to wait, whether we wanted to take it to go or sit there and eat. At the end I also had a sundae which was great as well. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone, I would even nominate them as having one of the best burgers anywhere. You certainly won’t be disappointed.

The food service was terrible, as it took 1 hour to get onion rings, a burger, and a BLT. After receiving our food it was a pathetic looking BLT and the Cajun burger was just a burger with premade seasoning on it. The onion rings were the only good item sadly.

Stopped in here on the way back from a wedding in Vermont. Tammy’s is a welcome respite from the road and offers juicy, flavorful burgers cooked to order. We also had some cider and our host reminded us to come back later in the fall to enjoy New York’s largest corn maze(in the backyard). There’s a ton of small batch candy lying around for purchase so if you need that extra pep on the road, Tammy’s got you covered too

4.5 stars, really. I must have driven past this place over a hundred times on my way back and forth between NYC and Manchester, VT. Then I read Ticia G’s review of their awesome burger. I’d seen their billboard but it took her great Unilocal review to finally get my butt in there to sample one — even though it was almost a year after I had promised her I would do that. Wow, was I cheating myself by putting it off so! Everything she wrote about this burger was spot on and then some! Perfectly formed, thick, half-pound patty of the tastiest ground Angus I’ve had in a long time. Cooked to juicy, flavorful perfection too on a grilled bun with just the right amount of accouterments that highlight, rather than distract from this delicious meat. I must say — I’ve eaten many burgers in my time and consider myself an aficionado but this was absolutely one of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life! The skin-on fries that accompanied were wonderful ¼″ square lengths of potatoey goodness that were cooked about as perfectly as these types of fries can be cooked. An excellent side of savory and toothsome slaw that came with it made for an eight-&-a-half buck meal fit for a king! The servers were efficient, attentive and attractive which lent pleasure to the meal. The kitchen seemed a bit slow, I don’t know if this is a regular occurrence here, but it certainly was worth the wait for the meal I got. One of the folks from the kitchen gave me a take-home menu before I left and told me to call in my order before coming in next time I was passing through. I did not mention the long wait at the kitchen, I think she just instinctively picked up that I was on the road home and just wanted a bite that took as little time as possible. Very considerate and accommodating. That menu’s definitely staying in the car and will be getting a lot of use via the cell phone in the future. Aside from offering fish, clam, scallop and shrimp dishes there(which I think I will definitely sample on my future trips past them), they are a home made candy store and also a serious ice cream parlor serving scoops, shakes, floats, etc…(see pix), too. Thanks so much for turning me on to this great place, Ticia. If you hadn’t, I guess I would have just kept blindly driving by them forever and ever and ever…

I find myself going for drives to VT on a regular basis. Tammy’s is one of those places, I would see every time I went to or from VT. Driving out to VT one day, my daughter said she was hungry and I asked if the nearest place would be ok. She agreed and we happened upon Tammy’s Candy Kettle. Lucky us! All I really ever saw from the road, was the word«burger» every time I’d drive by, maybe because I like burgers, who knows. When we walked in, I was a little taken aback. It looked like a candy shop and I thought maybe they’d switched businesses and just kept the old signs. Turns out it’s also a candy shop, which explains the name I’d never caught, seeing I had burger vision. The dining room is off of the candy shop area. The menu offers everything from sandwiches, to full dinners. Homemade soup was on the menu and I would have gotten some but the burgers are large. Maybe I’ll stop by for lunch one of these days and try it. I got a bbq burger, and requested it medium rare. It came out perfect temp and the burger was very juicy and had a yummy bbq sauce on it. You also get a choice of bread for the burgers, onion roll, white, or wheat. I had the wheat roll and liked it enough to eat most of it. Usually I mostly eat just the burger. Burgers come with cole slaw and fries. I asked them to hold the fries so I could try the onion rings, which were very tasty. Lightly fried with thinly sliced onions on the inside. Works for me, I’m not a fan of big chunky onions that are hard to bite through. The small order is big, by the way. It would easily be enough for a small family. I don’t eat cold slaw so I can’t comment on that, but it looked good… for a food I don’t eat. Service is very attentive and friendly. When we went, there was one waitress who handled both sections of the dining room with both efficiency and personality. As I said Tammy’s, is also a candy shop and they have pretty much everything you could ever want candy wise. A good portion of the candy is homemade, which is surprising because the selection is quite large and some chocolates are very detailed. I got some chocolates for my father, who said they were«great» and some various bagged candy for myself and my daughter. The mini jelly fruit slices were seriously yummy! I might stop there just for those, if I’m not up for a meal next time I drive by. A lady I believe to be Tammy herself came out of the kitchen. She was very sweet and had that certain demeanor about her, that made me feel like I’d just had dinner at her house. She told me this was the 17th year for the business. I hope they’re around for many more! EDIT3⁄11 I had someone ask why I didn’t give 5 stars, seeing I liked Tammy’s so much. It’s not something the business owner can probably help/fix all that easily but the parking situation for me is a bit rough. It was also a bit muddy. Both my issues. If you’re a better parker than I am. which I’m sure you are, you’ll be fine. If you don’t mind the mud. which I wouldn’t have if I wasn’t carrying an infant and a bit nervous about slipping, you’ll also be fine.

this place does not have the most appropriate of names for a burger joint. it is on the way to bennington on rte 7, a few miles before you get to the turn-off of 279, on the right hand side and on a bend. it IS however a candy kettle. there is a Ton of different types of candy all over inside. i am usually so overwhelmed by the selection that i just wander around looking at it and wishing that i was a child again and i could glut myself.(and yes, i usually buy my daughter some) they also have two glass cases of their homemade chocolates that are Incredible. but to the food, they advertise Big Juicy Angus burgers for $ 7.79. and they Are good. so good. and their coleslaw is so delicious that i stop there to buy some even if i am not staying for a burger. they have other food but somehow i never can seem to order anything else. the interior is a really a bit odd but in a charming way, plenty to entertain your eyes while your mouth is taking care of it’s own entertainment. if you are on a trip to VT, i would suggest that you make it around lunch or dinnertime so that you can stop here and leave full and pleased.
