A 2 star rating is «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» That isn’t totally true. I haven’t had better. But I haven’t had worse. All these cupcake places give you twice as much icing as they do cake. It’s too much. The cake can be anywhere from dry and bland to semi moist and bland. They seem to rely on the icing alone to make or break it. Kids love this so you wont go wrong there but honestly I can go to the grocery store buy a tub of icing and just eat it. Its a cute little store and the staff is super nice. The product just isn’t up to my standards and the price is also too high.

I don’t get it. The hype, I mean. Yes, the cupcakes are VERY pretty, and they have an interesting selection, but the taste? Meh. First, why would anyone want twice as much icing as there is cake? talk about overkill! Second, neither is spectacularly tasty. The icing is heavy on the shortening and the cake is pretty bland. I think little kids would be the best audience for these, since flash and sugar are the best attributes.

Sugar Phene here. I LOVE GiGi’s. Red Velvet, Wedding Cake, and the good majority of the others are tasty. A must that you workout afterwards.(smile) …

These cupcakes look nice visually, but taste horrible. The frosting is incredibly sweet, and is overloaded in the cake. Also, you can taste the sugar granules in the frosting. The cake itself was completely dry, and hard as well. The cupcakes from Walmart are much better, with a moist cake and better frosting. While these cakes look nice, they do not taste as good as they appear. Therefore, I would not recommend these cupcakes, as they do not taste good.

Visually, these cupcakes are excellent. As someone who eats for flavor(okay, and nutrients, but obviously not when I’m going to indulge in a cupcake. anyways), these seriously lack. My family members love this place, so I’ll purchase for them but it isn’t even worth the waste of calories for me. Most of the time, the cake is borderline dry and nearly flavorless, even with their more creative flavors.(Sidenote: the cookie dough flavor just tastes ‘off’) The icing tastes like refined sugar and waxy crisco. They recently released some breads that I sampled, though, and of the few that I tried, they were quite good.

Visually excellent cupcakes. Lacked flavor in both cake and icing. I pitty anyone who thinks crisco heavy tasting icing is good. Real quality frosting makes u want a spoon and to eat a whole tub of it. Cake simply cannot be so dry. so many ways to have a moist cake. In short a side from looking good Gigi ’ s failed to deliver upon the best cupcakes in Hoover claim.

GiGi’s cupcakes catered my wedding cake, grooms cake, and mini cupcakes for my wedding and I am still in awe of the wonderful job that they did. I would encourage all brides in the Birmingham area to go for a tasting and you will not be disappointed. I had about 5 tastings with the most popular wedding cake bakers in the area and while they were all good, the cake at GiGi’s out-tasted everyone! Not many people realize that they also offer full-size wedding cakes and not just cupcakes. I had a brunch wedding and went to taste the cinnamon roll cake that I had heard was fantastic(was actually recommended by my caterer, Kathy G). Wow, it was phenomenal! The Chocolate grooms cake was just as tasty. I had a tight window that in which I needed the cake delivered and set up since I was having my ceremony and reception at the same place. They went out of there way to get it there in time and set up… it was absolutely perfect. Honestly the best tasting cakes I have ever had at a wedding and my guests agreed. They were also beautifully decorated! Bravo, GiGi’s!

If you like frosting, you will love this place. the frosting is about the same size as the cupcake itself, definitely a mouth of sugary goodness. I’ve tried the birthday surprise, wedding cake, and pistachio. Have to say wedding cake is the best, its just like a regular vanilla cupcake that cant go wrong, although i left it in my car for 5 min and the frosting seems like it was gonna melt into cream so do not leave it in the heat for too long. eat it there if you can. its about $ 3.50 with tax for a cupcake. regular cupcake pricing. if you are craving something sweet in the hoover area, definitely go get one and forget about the calories.

I’ll admit, I’m not a sweets kind of guy. Gigi’s might be able to change that. I was recently the lucky recipient of a variety case of Gigi’s cupcakes. When I opened the lid, I seriously couldn’t believe what I saw. The array of colors and different designs on these miniature cakes were nothing short of jaw dropping. I know that sounds exaggerated, but it’s the truth. The taste certainly didn’t disappoint, as well. If you are looking to make your dessert spread impress your guest, this is the place to buy from.

I’ve had a couple of different cupcakes from this location(peanut butter and an espresso flavored one that apparently they don’t have anymore). They were good, but not great. They were heaped high with icing and the cake part itself wasn’t too bad, but it was just a bit bland. Out of the two, the espresso one was best. These are PRICEY. Over $ 3 tax and all for one cupcake. Yes, they are large, but not really worth the money in my opinion unless you’re just craving cupcake. They had better be glad there’s no Edgar’s in Trussville, because that would give them a run for their money.

We really love the cupcakes. Especially the wedding cake cupcake and the chocolate peanut butter…

Not impressed at all. There is way too much sugar and frosting, the cupcakes are so unbalanced. I can get better cupcakes at Walmart. How is this place in business?

Gig’s Cupcakes has finally made it to Birmingham. They have actually been open several months, so I am surprised there are no reviews yet. But, this is Alabama Unilocal,so what does anyone expect. I have been to Gigi’s in Nashville, and was not impressed. The staff was rude and the cupcakes were really dry. So knowing this was a franchise, I was a little apprehensive. Turns out, the location here is better. They had a good variety of Christmas cupcakes, and some of them are really cute. We got the Winter Wonderland and Sugar Plum. The cakes were actually really moist not overwhelmingly sweet. The icing which of course is loaded on top(do you want some cupcake with that icing?) was smooth and creamy. If I didn’t have diabetes before, I surely do now. The prices are $ 3 each, or a dozen for $ 2.75 each. Looks like Dreamcakes has some competition in the cupcake department. But Gigi’s does not have a cupcake truck, unlike Dreamcakes. But, Gigi’s stays open later. But Dreamcakes is a local business. Hmmmm. What to do.
