Sushi has always tasted fresh and really good! The service can be a bit slow at times but for the most part is friendly and attentive.

I think the price point for this restaurant is way too high, especially for the quality and quantity of food you are getting. The food was tasty, but again, priced way to high. We ordered an appetizer that was priced around $ 9 but you only received enough for 3 – 4 bites. Splitting that between two people wasn’t the end of the world, but $ 3 per bite is a little much… or maybe I’m weird for counting… who knows. Nonetheless, the experiences was, «meh…okay.»

I am former sushi chef, sake’ educator and Japanese American whose family owned and operated one of the first authentic Japanese steakhouses in Alabama(Renge’). This is hands down the best place I know of for sushi(and sake’) in the state. Leo orders the best quality fish and the highest grade sushi rice available. His attention to detail makes him one of the best chefs I’ve ever met and I’ve worked with some of the finest in Chicago. I’ve lived in Japan and eaten at(and managed) some amazing restaurants, and consider Birmingham lucky to have O Sushi. The atmosphere is clean and relaxing and the staff is friendly and attentive. The wine and sake list are top notch, yet unpretentious. Please go and support this top quality, family owned, local restaurant!

Very attentive staff. I was thoroughly pleased that they have a couple of sushi items that are very hard to come by… Toro and Uni(fatty belly of the tuna and sea urchin, respectively). Both were very nice and fresh. The tuna tartare was delicious as well. I didn’t think that I would find this here but I am impressed and excited that they have these items here. I will be back! Just tried the green tea crème brûlée and it is delish! I would definitely recommend this and add it to your meal to finish off a great experience

My sushi was hot and the food gave me food poisoning, would recommend Osaka sushi bar instead.

Very good sushi. A number of the menu items have a local flair like roll tide roll roll and War Eagle roll. Very clean, crisp, authentic restaurant. The staff is very pleasant. A nice quiet place for date night.

Ordered Firecracker, dragon, and Fantasy. All sushi was fresh & good. Firecracker has a smokey flavor. Fantasy has a crunchy rice wrapper & is easy to eat. Somehow Dragon Roll has a mild banana taste but not off-putting. We also ordered Miso soup & fried calamari. As good as expected. Everything is good; not mind-blowing, but worth eating here when you want sushi and it’s a convenient location. My daughter had cucumber roll and Tempura Cheesecake. I didn’t taste these but she described it as «pretty good». This place is mostly empty every time I come. Their food is good enough that I would expect it to be busier. I’ve been here on a Saturday afternoon and Wednesday evening.

Atmosphere — Very nice. Just the right amount of light. Low noise allows for conversation without yelling. Decorations are very clean and well done. Staff– Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Food– All the classic sushi rolls you would expect just some are renamed. Portion sizes are good. Price– Average for the Birmingham area. Overall– I’ve been back and will keep going back.

I really enjoy this place. The atmosphere is calming and is always quiet enough to have a nice conversation. Seems like it would be a good date spot, though we have had to sit very close to another couple when seated on the bench on the wall. The service is very good. With the place being relatively small, the wait staff are always available and have always been friendly. They are also willing to answer questions and the sushi chef was engaging when my son wanted to go watch him make the sushi. The sushi itself has never left us wanting, either in taste or portion. Ingredients are fresh, rolls are bright it quickly after being made and sauces are well matched.

I was pleased as pie with this experience. I’m not sure if that’s an expression. The ambiance is nice, the staff is quick and friendly, and the sushi was very well done(actually, it was raw, but done well… there we go). It was a little pricey, especially for the sashimi and nigiri, but on net, an excellent experience.

My husband and I had lunch here. It is tucked away in a shopping center a little hard to find. It is a small place, but very well decorated. We ordered lunch specials. The soup was ok, and salad was just iceberg lettuce with ginger dressing. The sushi rolls were good. Fresh made and fresh ingredients. Decent price for lunch. We will definitely be back to have more sushi during dinner hour.

Blahhh! Some of the worst sushi I’ve had in Birmingham! It’s like they took the old rolls that target didn’t sell and passed them off as their own. I will not go back!

I frequent several of the sushi restaurants in town and O’Sushi is at the top. Leo, the owner and head chef, always has fresh fish and the quality is outstanding. There is a wide selection on the menu which is better than others who just have the standard paper and pencil sushi checklist. I have sampled a wide variety of the rolls and have not had a single one I didn’t finish; they are all good! Leo is also good at creating something if you are an adventurist. He has a good attentive staff and they are always nice. You will not be disappointed with this restaurant.

O Sushi is a sushi restaurant tucked away in Hoover. We arrived to a fairly empty room for an early dinner on Labor Day. There were two servers and we were seated immediately. We ordered soon after and the food didn’t take long to arrive. My impression is that the sushi is fresh. The avacado was perfect ripeness. The fish was good and fresh. I had the tuna spring roll, which was fried to my surprise, and the eel roll. The two by themselves was enough for a dinner. My friend got a bigger dinner, the Maki combo with three rolls and soup, and ate all three rolls. He seemed pleased as well, remarking on the avacado. The prices seem competitive for sushi. I do recommend this restaurant.

This is definitely a sushi place, so if you are looking for really good sushi, come here. We had the viagra roll for an appetizer. It was really, really good. Our meals came with the standard ginger salad and miso soup. I had the salmon which was a good sized portion. It came with veggies and fried rice. My fiancé had the seafood tempura which is a giant amount of fried food. He didn’t read the description well and didn’t realize it was all fried so he wasn’t happy with his but wasn’t the restaurants fault. Next time we go here, we will probably just stick with the sushi for our main meal. Can’t wait to come back!

A great spot close to home! Restaurant is small but packs in 20 or so tables with sushi bar seating. Includes one TV and is playing current hits music in the background. Quiet, low key atmosphere, but not bad. Menu includes your basic rolls, plus many specialty rolls, apps, and a few hot items. Something for everyone. Husband and I stopped for dinner on a Friday night and the crowd was light but energy was good. They offer beer, wine, sake and soft drinks of course. We tried the basics since it was our first visit. shared a seaweed salad, gyoza, spicy tuna, spider roll, flounder sushi and yellowtail sushi. Everything was really good! Tasted fresh and was well prepared. The spicy tuna was not loaded with mayo which I prefer and wasn’t too spicy. The Spider roll was typical, but included romaine lettuce. That was new to me. Added a good texture but it was weird. Everything else was what you would expect. I would easily order those same choices again. Close to home and good, fresh sushi… We’ll be back!

This is definitely one of my go-to sushi places in Birmingham. They have some of the freshest, most delicious sushi you can find in town. And if you hit it right, the price is pretty good too. I am a junkie for a good deal; and Tuesday’s at O sushi falls well into that category. All specialty rolls are $ 7.95 and all sake is half price. We love to have a great mid-week, date night and get some great sushi at a great price. The Thai roll is my wife’s favorite. It has a really fresh taste, and a must if you love cilantro. I am a big fan of the Firecracker. It has a little darker flavor than the Thai, which makes them compliment each other very well. The fantasy roll is also another good one to try. And if you love miso soup, a cup of that is a must here too. The service is also always on point. Never had a single problem. Always worth the trip out to Hoover.
