Mexican food of choice. The employees know my husband and our order since we come here so often. We usually get the 4 pc I think. And when they do have chips and queso… We add the queso to our tacos. To die for. Never fails. Consistent with the flavors. Chicken is always moist! And corn tortillas are always fresh and hot!

Glad I found this place on Unilocal. I went with the recommended Monthly Special #1. Chicken was fork tender and not too dry, seasoned very well. Corn tortillas were warm and fresh. Beans and rice were average. As other reviewers stated salsa bar could use some improvement/more selections. It has a basic medium salsa, salsa verde, slaw, lettuce and 2 types of onion. I can’t wait to try some other selections on my next trip.

I thought I previously reviewed this joint but I guess not. It’s my go to stop when on that part of Lorna. For $ 5.99 I always get the«Monthly Special #1» white meat which includes a bone in chicken breast(no wing), beans and rice, a grilled pepper(typically jalapeño but sometimes Serrano) and about 5 tortillas plus access to the condiment bar plus a fountain drink. I basically rip the meat and skin off and make tacos accompanied by the lightly cured curtido and some of the red sauce. This yellowish chicken is probably the best commercially prepared chicken I have ever eaten and really need to try this at home. Jay’s picture really brings out how brightly colored the meat is after it is marinated and grilled. As far as the décor, it does not really figure into my review. It actually looks like it was an older Subway but there is a Subway next door, so maybe not. This is not four star dining but that is five star walking bird(yeah yeah, it’s not turkey).

This place is solid. Very good chicken. Reminds me of the«El Pollo Loco» chain is SoCal. Salsa bar could be a little better but you come here for the chicken. Also, serves liquor. Don’t come for the«décor» people.

Well, the food is just ok. What I dislike most is the environment. Personally, I would like to dine in a decent and clean place.

My family and I gave this place a try a few days ago. We had heard about it on the radio, and after seeing the reviews we figured it would be a good stop. When we walked in we were not greeted politely, it was almost as if we were a bother. My father made a special request on his order and this seemed to further annoy the clerk. Another Unilocaler mentioned the CA style ambiance, I am a California native, it did seem similar but the food was not unfortunately. To top it off, two of us got an upset stomach later that evening. Will I give this place a second try? Probably not, but perhaps you may have a better experience than us.

We found this place through Unilocal and it did not disappoint. When we approached the place, it was as described. Not a posh place and very Spartan on the interior. The staff was pleasant and helpful. My wife got a taco salad and said it was great. The seasoned beef had a slight taste of chorizo seasoning and it made it different and good. my daughter got the quesadilla and she even enjoyed it and cleaned her plate. I had the two piece roasted combo with rice and beans. Just fantastic. No doubt a return trip will happen.

Love it every time I go. Good for lunch. Always busy. Slow cooked chicken over a grill reminds me of southern Cali. Fresh and tasty. When you walk in its a bit older but clean. Free salad/salsa bar when you eat in. Combos are all very good.

Cheap and yummy… I haven’t been disappointed by anything I have ever gotten on the menu. Although the restaurant interior is a bit rough around the edges…

was shopping with a friend in the area and had read the one review on Unilocal. it is a very small place but when i walked in i knew i was in for a treat. this place really reminded me of the small Mexican taco shops in California i am used to. Univision blaring off the TV, a great salsa condiment bar and all the Mexican drink dispensers. Me and my buddy both got the 3 piece with two sides tortillas and a drink. this is grilled chicken like i am really used to from cali. the sides i got were standard rice and beans. This was great tasting and great comfort food for missing home.

I was killing some time in Birmingham, just driving around when I saw this place. Back in Austin there are places like this all over. El Pollo Rico, El Pollo Regio, El Pollo Borracho. They’re all very similar… a «different kind» of Mexican place, centered on delicious grilled chicken instead of the usual assortment of enchiladas y mas. They have flautas(crispy taco rolls which you might better know as taquitos), quesadillas, and a «papa lucas» which is a Mexican-style loaded baked potato, but their main feature, and what you must try, is the grilled chicken. When you order grilled chicken, it comes with sides and 5 corn tortillas, so you can pull the chicken off and make tacos with it. This is highly recommended. Take some chicken, some rice & beans, some salsa or veggies from the fixin’s island, and you’ve got the grilled-chicken version of a fajita, for much less than most mexican restaurants.
