never been to mexico, but when the menu is in Spanish and we’re the only two gringos there, I’m thinking this place is going to be awesome. Not much in terms of furniture/décor and they don’t serve beer, but damn the food was great! I had a Torta-Cubana(big ass chorizo sandwich with a fried egg) and my daughter had the chimichanga. Both were very good and the cheese dip had some flavor too — wasn’t bland like so many others. Everything on the menu looked great — many different, new things I want to try! This will be my ‘go-to’ mexican restaurant for awhile.

All I had were chips, salsa, and ceviche, but they nailed it on all 3. Salsa wasn’t too sweet, and it seems like the ceviche was made with real lime juice instead of that artificial stuff in a bottle. There were some dill pickle chips in there though. Here’s what you do. Just take them out and save them for your sandwich the next day. They have a good taste but they’re strange in ceviche!

Regretfully retracting the 5 stars I initially gave this spot after a second visit. We both ordered the same thing as last time because it was so so good, but this time not the same quality. Still very good and authentic, but not memorable. Maybe a different chef. Maybe just not made fresh today. LS&RW

Alright, I think it’s time for a pro and con review. I really, really was pulling for this place. It’s very authentic. In fact, it’s so authentic, that I feel like some of the issues I had might just be the fault of my inexperience. Here we go… Pros — I was pretty happy with the mixed(steak/chicken) fajitas — They have a salsa bar with multiple options and several veggies — The server was really sweet — 5 star authenticity — The food came out very fast — The Chorizo taco was tasty(see cons) — The prices were VERY reasonable Cons: — No pre-meal chips and salsa — No alcohol(not that I have to have it, but I love a good margarita) — The choriqueso was a bit burned. Still tasty, but the cheese was hard and the meat was over cooked. — The chips that came with the Choriqueso were stale. — The shredded beef taco was not good. Like really, really bad. It almost had a slimy texture and fishy flavor. I decided to give it a second bite. Bad idea… I gagged a little.

Amazing value for the money. The portions are very large – I wasn’t sure burritos could be that big, and mine was $ 7 – and I was really amazed at how much chicken my wife got for $ 4. We’ll be back often.

I really fantastic Taqueria in Hoover Alabama. I just went by on a Sunday and there was a line out the door. For tacos for nine dollars! Try the pickled habaneros. As good a Taqueria’s I have found in Birmingham.
