What a terrific find! Wonderful knit shop with the best selection of yarns, friendly and knowledgeable owner(Theresa) and staff, eager to share their enthusiasm and talents whether you’re a novice or experienced knitter, crocheter. I have been here maybe 8 — 10 times in the past year. This is a decent yarn store if you don’t have any better options in your area. She has a pretty good selection and her prices are commensurate with other yarn stores. The yarn is well organized and displayed. The problems are: it can be very hard to get around the store. Every time I have been there, there have been piles of new merchandise(boxed) in the middle of the aisles and it can be very hard to reach around. She offers classes, which is great, except that the store is very very small, and when anyone is seated at the table or in the couch area, they block off many of the more desirable yarns. I have literally had to crawl over ottomans and people, or have people pass over some of the yarns I wanted to look at – that is not a comfortable shopping experience. Also, the owner is often visiting with all her cronies and things can be very chaotic – if you are not a part of her in-group, you tend to get short shrift. That is true in many yarn stores and other specialty shops, but it is particularly true for this one. She tends to have a rather sarcastic attitude, which I think is her way of being funny, but it doesn’t work, at least not on me. I do like her willingness to help you find something, and the fact that she is not always pushing the highest priced options at you. Bottom line: I will shop there only if and when there are no other options available to me for what I want, and with all the local options and online vendors, that will not be very often.

Awesome little yarn shop. Theresa and her staff are always welcoming and helpful, and the sale wall usually has a lot of fun stuff too. There’s a great range of yarns, from Encore and Cascade to Malbrigo and Noro. Really great cotton selection too. Prices aren’t bad either.

Want to say thanks for helping me finish a few projects my mom started when she was ill. She always loved stopping by this place for chit chat and knitting queries. We shopped here when it was Yarn Central and am so glad that another crafty spot took over when they closed. Teresa…thanx for getting that special cotton blend for my newest project. For other project lovers… call ahead to check the hours!

Out of the Loop occupies the space where Yarn Central used to be. Now that I am a knitter I am on the look out for local independent yarn slingers who have better quality merchandise than the local big box stores. The owner Theresa was very gracious and welcoming and brimming with knitting knowledge she was enthusiastic to share with kneophyte me! I got two skeins of the most delicious sustainable wool from fiber sheep in Uruguay and am looking forward to endless hours(!) of clicking my knitting kneedles to voila, a new chapeau or two…
