Got to the bar and the servers told us about the seats right on the lake. Which were down a flight of stairs. We got downstairs and were greeted and sat at an amazing spot. The waitress took a minute to get my draft beer but did give me a water while I waited. She explained that she had to go to the bar upstairs to get my beer. Food came out hot and fresh. Wife had bruschetta chicken and I had a 14oz ribeye. Portion sizes were great! I had the asparagus and wife had sweet potato fries which the server recommended. Upstairs they had a huge grill which our waitress told us steaks, and salmon were cooked on. Callie and Jessica made our visit wonderful and they kept our table laughing the entire time. They kept our drinks cold, and told us to come back! We sure do plan on visiting again.

There is a rather large grill with hood system in the middle of the restaurant… it was intriguing enough to have to order the 14oz ribeye mid/rare. Great cut of beef (not a tiny portion). Watched the chef grill to perfection. House said on the side was quite large as well. Cool place with a great view of Houghton Lake. I would definitely come back again.

We have gone several times and haven’t been disappointed yet. The service was super fast, but it also wasn’t busy. I got the mushroom and Swiss burger twice and it was great. It wasn’t huge but it was a really good burger. Will definitely go back.

Most likely won’t return. I ordered the Orchid Spinach salad. Two of the ingred listed on the menu were left off – the blue cheese crumbles and the egg. The bacon was more like dried up ham and tasteless. The waitress apologized and went to get the missing ingredients. She retuned to explain they were out of blue cheese and the egg. 10.99 for spinach, red onion, apple slices, and chopped tomatoes – no reimbursement for trying to pass off what I didn’t order – «sorry, here’s your bill.» We spent 30.00 there. Cold have been treated better.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the server. Friendly staff always make a dinner out better.
The kids loved their burger and corn dogs. The wife got the Chicken aaaaa and mostly enjoyed it. She said the flavor was good, but the kitchen was a little tougher/dryer than she likes.
I got the 10oz Sirloin. It was flavorful and grilled great. It want a sirloin cut I’ve seen before though. It had more fat then I like. My side of grilled asparagus and baked potato were splendid.
My father thoroughly enjoyed his Ribeye though. He got nice simple fries with it and a side salad that was not boring.
My mother got the BBQ ribs and said they were «finger licking good».
Overall, I’d recommend it. Good American food, great atmosphere, and a always a winner when you choose a locally owned business.

We came here after a day on the lake. We were greeted promptly. Major fly issue. Window sills have not been cleaned, maybe ever, which would explain part of the fly issue. We swatted and shoed flys away the entire time. When the waitress asked if everything was OK.
We complained about the flys. No apologies.
Just a «oh my gosh!» There were 3 flys on my sons shoulder whom she was standing next to. No one in outside seating as it was too cold. Food was very over priced for what we received. Has potential… get it together.

The 3 stars is not for the food or service but for the atmosphere. The food was ok, just like fast food. The service was ok but there friendly. But the place looks over the water with a relaxed atmosphere. So it’s just ok

The only redeeming factor is the view. If this place wasn’t on the lake it would struggle/go oob. 2 stars for the view.

The only thing this place has going for it is the atmosphere. It’s a really cool building overlooking Houghton Lake, and you can access the bar by boat if you want.
That being said, I wouldn’t recommend this bar to anyone for food. Every time I eat here I get sick. I’ve tried the nachos, teriyaki chicken, fish tacos, onion rings, and cheese sticks, all with very bad consequences the next day. These meals were all many months apart with me thinking ‘things would be different this time.‘
Depending on how busy the bar is, the service can vary. The only time you might get decent service is when you’re the only person in the bar. During my most recent visit, we sat at a table outside for 30 minutes without any acknowledgment.
TL;DR: I would only suggest this bar to someone looking to get a few drinks and is in no hurry.

I love, love, love this place!
Whenever I’m traveling «up North» I make a stop here. The location and atmosphere is the best! They also have a great selection of food & drink! Good service too!

You average cheap bar/chain restaurant fried food. As long as you’re not expecting anything homemade or fresh (why would you around here!?) you’ll enjoy it. The view REALLY can’t be beat. Right on the lake with a dock, patio, picnic tables, fire pit, etc. I can see this being a great party spot, in fact I remember being here for the Bloody Mary bar in my 20’s, but they really cater to families and children during the day. The kids meals came with marshmallows and they played life size jenga. My husband got what he calls «the best onion rings he’s ever had» … I think because they’re enormous (see pic), so overall everyone was very happy!

When we walked in, I thought this place had a lot of promise. The atmosphere is great and the grill is right out in the open where you can watch the chef prepare ribs, chicken, etc.
I ordered the Mahi Mahi fish tacos at the recommendation of the waitress. The other people in our group ordered the ribs and a chicken sandwich. The Mahi Mahi tacos did not taste fresh, AT ALL, and were thrown together with some sort of canned pineapple salsa mess on a flimsy tortilla. The worst part was the guacamole that I ordered (for an extra $ 0.99) was Wholey Guacamoley from Costco! The salsa on the side was canned Pace! I couldn’t believe that they don’t serve real guac and salsa. It honestly can’t be that big of a deal to smash up an avocado and squeeze in some lime and salt. It was goopy, nasty tasting squeeze-tube guac! Seriously?
The food was not good at all and the service was exceptionally slow for the place being maybe ¹⁄₃ full. Would not return.

I can say I honestly will never eat at this restaurant again. It had great views of Houghton Lake, other than that, just terrible. The service was awful. The food less than marginal. One person in our party didn’t receive his dinner until long after the rest of us had finished. The waitress offered to comp his beer (which he received the wrong beer 2 times). When asked to speak to a manager, we found out there was no manager on duty. It was the 4^th of July weekend… really?

The food was good but the noise level was mind-boggling. My senses were assaulted by the noise from so many TVs and WHY did they have to have music playing, too? It just added to the din.
The server, Amanda, was friendly but they were understaffed so there were a few times we hoped she’d come to the table a little faster than she did, but this is not her fault, it’s management’s problem. She did a good job.
Tasty French dip sandwich, potato chips were fresh. My friend liked her Rueben, also.

Great place to have A drink and a really nice. However food is horrible. We asked the waitress which appetizers were not frozen and there were only two out of probably 20. I had a burger which sounded great when they brought it it was one frozen patty. Go there for the view and the drinking but don’t go for the food.

Not Sure What Is With All The Other Bad Reviews. We Just Went There For First Time. No Complaints. Good Service. Burger Was Good. Decent Beers On Tap. We Sat Outside On Deck Which Was Great. All Staff Was Very Friendly.

The Limberlost makes me want to quit my job so I can move to Houghton Lake and hang out at the Limberlost all day.
I went there once and by coincidence it was during the summer luau. Pints of beer were flowing, there was live music and even a pig roast. The place was decked out in tropical décor and my waitress was in a bikini. Sorry, I should specify my very attractive waitress was in a bikini — and I guess you could say the service was very «good «real» and «firm.»
But seriously, the Limberlost was awesome. And they had microbrews. I want to go back. For real. (See what I did there?)
