Okay, when a place makes the King Ranch store look more mainstream, you know you’re in for a ride. We’ve been walking by Anteks for years now since it right next door to our favorite place in Houston. And for years now, we kept meaning to stop by but we seemed to show up after they closed. Voila, yesterday was the perfect excuse to stop in since we got to the strip about 30 minutes before Downing Street even opened. Anteks is probably not the best place to bring your vegetarian friend. I was surprised to see such few animals mounted and stuffed, but considering almost everything made in the store is from animal, I supposed they thought it would’ve been overkill(pun intended). The cowhide couches, the horn bowls, the rugs of miscellaneous animals, and the countrified furniture would be fun to decorate a hunting lodge or cabin, but I’m not sure how many people would actually decorate their home with this stuff. On the other hand, this would be a great spot to take your out of town visitors to spend an hour or so looking at all the fun stuff. I’m giving it such high marks for a few reasons. 1) The quality of the items was pretty high and though the prices seemed to match that, there were plenty of things on sale. 2) The owner was incredibly nice and met us at the door without being overbearing and in our face. 3) It would be a fun way to occupy guests for a while and convince them that this is actually how all Texans decorate their house. If you’re into the Texas ranch décor, this would definitely be a place to check out. The beds and couches were great quality and seemed to go pretty quickly since almost every large piece of furniture had been sold and was waiting for pick up. The owner also informed us that they move things pretty quickly, so if they are out of something when you go in, it won’t be long until they’re restocked.
