Set in River Oaks, Armandos is the place to be on Thursday nights! Dinner, drinks, and dancing — what could be better?! It is a scene to be seen! A huge praise to Kimberly who worked her magic to ensure we had an amazing evening. We couldn’t have been happier with our table and were very pleased with everything! I haven’t had customer service like that in a very long time, and my friends were extremely impressed. Thank you Kimberly! We will be back!

Overpriced. Everything was decent and good at best. Enough to warrant 4 stars. I took 1 star off bc it is overpriced for the type of food you get and small mistakes. We ordered 2 mojitos. One had more alcohol than the other. We told the staff but they didn’t do anything about it. Oh well. No biggie. For 2 tacos with rice and beans, it was $ 18. It tasted more like a $ 10 plate. The Chilean sea bass was not too bad just not very flavorful though. However, I enjoyed the shrimp cocktails. The acidity was just right. At the end, I asked for dessert. I requested the waitstaff to write on the plate«happy Mother’s Day». He nodded. Then brought out the dessert without the writing on the plate but a candle. Lol. Cute! But not what I requested. The list of cognac offered had more choices then most Mexican restaurant so that was cool. The staff was nice though but made a small mistake on over charging us on the bill. He was diplomatic when we told him about the error. No attitude so we appreciated that. Overall, a good experience.

Very classy place. Good food and a cool bartender in Javier. Very tasty mini surf and turf. Had the tilapia and it was tasty. Took awhile to get our orders but the waiters forgot I was there I guess and bus boys were attentive.

This is the place to be on Thursday nights! The restaurant turns into a semi club — there’s a good DJ, music going all night, and people all dressed up. They move some of the tables out of the center of the floor to create a dance floor, and people dance the night away. Fun scene, would go again!

I have been meaning to leave a review and today is the Day! If you are planning a private, upscale, classy, authentic bistro, this is the place. With over 15 years in service, always fresh, and DELICIOUS, this beautiful bistro is #1 in my choice of Mexican food. Armando’s has been growing and providing Houstonians with, I will Dare say, the best Mexican food with EXCELLENT quality. AUTHENTIC. MEXICAN. DINING. Yes please! The ambience: Folkloric genuine Latin music sets the mood while you dine in style, and elegance. The walls are influenced with Mexican Artisan mirrors, and pottery. The servers are high skilled and most of them have been with Armando’s for years, so you’re assured you will receive QUALITY service. As soon as you walk in there is definitely a sense of Posh, and great welcoming hospitality. If you stop by be sure to try the irresistible and sizzling Fajitas,(they are cooked to order so you’re guaranteed FRESH food) served with fluffy tortillas. Or their Chile relleno-to die for-YUM! Stop by on a Thursday night but reserve your spots always, because this place is definitely Exclusive, Thursday nights are the busiest because they have a DJ night, expect the best because that’s what Armando’s offers. Definitely dress to impress here, because this restaurant seats the best of the best, you read it! Fun to people watch as well! Will always recommend this place to everyone! Thank you Armando’s, & your excellent staff!

Just arrived home from an interesting evening. Grabbed an empty chair at the bar and minutes after my husband and I were enjoying our drinks the guy next to me insisted that my seat was part of his party, demanded that I get up. With his back he pushed up against me! Then tried to start a fight with my husband! Really! Manager came up to the bar but never apologized. Done with this place!

Horrible service and the owner is rude and disrespectful!!! I will never dine here again! My party was embarrassed of the treatment we received.

Maybe it’s because we got here right before closing, but I felt that everything from the service and food could have been better. The place is in a nice part of Houston, but the inside seemed a little sterile… Ex. Things were on the wall for the sake of and not because it was supposed to be there. The food was very basic and not flavorful. Chips were stale, the rice was hard, just off putting. The service was OK for it being the end of the evening. I couldn’t justify paying what we did, it was just not worth it. I’ll try it one more again earlier in the night and see if that was the difference… to be continued…

I have only driven past this place a million times and never noticed it. Turns out it is pretty good! Armandos is a higher end Mexican food establishment. It is not casual dining at all. If you are ok with the setting, then the food is pretty good as well. Be prepared to spend a little more than you are used to. We dined at Armandos for a birthday and it was very pleasant. The chips and salsa are great! I do not think that I would continually dine here just based on the fact that it is a little expensive and a little more fancy than your typical Mexican food.

Always happy to go to Armandos! Their beans are the reason God made pork lard — seriously! Had a lovely New Year’s Eve dinner here with my husband. Fixed menu was great, and I wish they would do that more often. I had the lobster enchiladas(sauce on side due to onion sensitivity). Delicious! The key lime pie was heavenly with a tart bite and brûlée-ish crisp to the bottom crust. They were out of Frank Family Chardonnay by the time we ordered at 8, so opted for Rombauer instead — very lovely. Nice champagne to start — cool that they offer half bottles for toasting. Next time will ask to be seated off of the dance floor so that we are not rushed to finish meal before the dance floor is cleared for the music and partying. Fun vibe here.

A fun date night spot. We made reservations through their website. We got our food right away. The margarita was good. Very strong. I ordered the tortilla soup and it was so good!

So I never complain about restaurants but this one just really pissed me off. First off, towards the end of paying the check the waiter seemed drunk and couldn’t comprehend what checks were with who after 3xs, and I ended up eating the ceviche and got very very bad food poisoning that night. I’m not gonna report it to the restaurant but I will write a review to warn you all because I feel miserable and might have to go to the hospital. Just check your food people.

Went to Armando’s for happy hour. What initially struck me is the beauty of the interior of the restaurant. High ceilings with Spanish architecture made me feel like I was in Barcelona. Armando’s is upscale Tex-Mex. We started off with a couple drinks. Even though the restaurant was pretty much empty on a Monday night, service was slow. Not terrible by any means, but should have been more efficient given the lack of people around. Once we finally came around to having some food, I went with the steak quesadilla. Instead of four large quesadillas as I’m accustomed to, Armando’s offers eight mini quesadillas. Still a lot of food as I was only able to eat half and it was good. Quality meat, melted cheese, couldn’t ask for more in a quesadilla. O and I forgot to mention the complimentary chips and salsa(both red salsa and green salsa). Our chips were switched out frequently and the warm tortilla chips were a treat.

So on a random Thursday night, I’m wrapping up happy hour with my girl Linda T. and my mates invites me to Armando’s. I’ve never heard of this place prior to them mentioning this so I assumed they were just heading there for dinner. I just finished happy hour and dinner myself so I decided I’d join them for margaritas. As soon as I walked into the restaurant, it felt like I was walking into a Spanish club. It was super busy that night, the music was blaring, and people were on the dance floor. There are tables surrounding the dance floor with full dining service. We got a table, ordered some chips and queso, and several rounds of margaritas. There were 6 of us. We were mingling and dancing all night. The DJ played a good variety of music. It was a blast. My mates say they come here to pick up cougars(40’s-50’s). Later in the evening, my boyfriend and our friend showed up and rounds of tequila shots were ordered. I immediately regretted it after the first shot but still took the second one down like a champ. Didn’t feel so much like one the next morning though… It was definitely a random fun night and those are usually the best. What a great surprise!

God I love Armando’s, I have been eating at this restaurant for thirty years. The food is absolutely delicious all of it. The drinks and wine list are perfect. Atmosphere is wonderful and very cozy… all I have is love for this Houston Iconic eatery.

Armandos is a white tablecloth Tex Mex restaurant serving up a few decent vegetarian items in Upper Kirby. I visited with a few friends on a Saturday night. This was my second time to Armandos, the first being about a year ago. I wasn’t Unilocaling at the time, but I did fill out a Southwest Dining review to get my 10 extra Southwest miles. Yes, I’m that shameless. But I took time writing that review, noting how hard it was to find anything vegetarian in the menu. I also mentioned not being sold on the idea of upscale Tex Mex, which a colleague told me is a bit racist. But, it is a sentiment my hispanic barber shared with me recently. ANYWAY, Armandos actually emailed me after I finished the review, explaining how they planned to make changes to make the menu easier to navigate, and how the service the provided was top notch. I still have that email today. And you know what? The service was awesome, and the ambiance was fantastic. I noted this to my friends: you could hear everyone at the table talking, even though the restaurant was loud. I don’t know what kind of acoustics voodoo was going on(my roommate said it was probably because the tables are small). I ordered the poblano tamales. The plate came with a side of gallo pinto, which is this black bean rice, and pico de gallo. The tamales were tasty. The cornmeal shell was filled with poblano peppers, cheese, and onions. The dish came with two small toppings to put atop the tamales: a darker salsa and a queso. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but I’d come back if I were looking for decent Tex-Mex in a finer atmosphere.

I upped this to three stars since the owners did write back, said they took action, and would welcome us back. Hopefully that’s true but just don’t see a reason to go back. What I wrote: Things may have changed. We actually walked out after waiting for 15 minutes without even an acknowledgement by our waiter that he’d be with us. Meanwhile another couple arriving later than us was served drinks and the couple next to us acted exasperated about their delays. Didn’t seem like a good night. We were also placed in the bar under the TV with the baseball game. Not exactly the ambiance for date night. The bar area is ok for me when I am alone but not on a date. Too bad, I really liked Armandos and even held my work anniversary party there last year. There are too many nice places in Upper Kirby to chance not paying attention to your customers.

The best Mexican food i have ever tasted great service. I refused refried beans my whole life… they have never touched these lips… but this Armandos refried beans is pure crack. Thank you!

Food and drinks are great. Drink menu is very impressive, then you taste them and you are blow away. I had a mule, a cucumber martini, and some other drinks. If the food was not so good, I would come here just for the drinks. The food is great. The beans, I think that is the signature item. Beans as a signature item? Come taste them. Crazy good. Carne guisada was up there with best I have had. First time here, next time I’ll try the chile rellenos. But the beans, best I have ever had. Update. We came back for the food and drinks and the atmosphere. Service was incredible tonight. They went out of their way to help. I had the ribeye enchiladas, and they were good. I had the same drinks I had the first time, and they did not disappoint. I have increased my rating to five stars. Love this place.

Ceviche portion size is huge. Tasted a tad bit too fishy! Wish it had more lemon flavor!
