Been a family favorite place for almost 20 years. Same family has owned it since its humble beginnings. Buffalo balls are absolutely to die for. Perfect example of don’t judge a book by its cover. Not the fanciest looking place, but definitely has delicious burgers. Everyone in Houston should try this place at least once.

This is an outdoor, patio establishment. There is no indoor seating and it was noon in January so we came prepared to sit outside. There were five or six round picnic-style tables made of stone that weren’t especially comfortable to sit on. We were the only people there who weren’t getting our food to-go so there was plenty of seating available. Since it was noon on a holiday Monday I thought it’d be busier but it was pretty quiet so available seating wasn’t a problem. Parking was also not a problem and it was very easy to get to from the Hardy Toll Road; it’s literally a quarter mile from the exit if you’re traveling south. My usual order, to try and keep everything the same from restaurant to restaurant, is a bacon cheeseburger with jalapenos. I get it with all the vegetable toppings and get the mustard and mayonnaise on the side. I consider condiments a grave insult to food and would rather enjoy it without but I’ve had some bad food before and always keep it on the side just in case I need it. If there’s anything I hate more than condiments on food, it’s wasting money. So if my options are to eat a terrible burger with condiments or throw away the food, I’d much rather make an attempt to keep the food down. There weren’t any options when it came to french fries. They were crinkle cut fries with no other option. It would be nice to have a waffle fry option as well but the place is rather small and their menu is actually quite big so I understand them not wanting to stock more than one type. And after I tried them, they didn’t need to spend their precious space on a different type of french fry. Their fries were delicious. They were the perfect color and crunch. They didn’t have too much potato to the point they were starchy but they had enough so you weren’t just eating crispy oil. There was also a boatload in the container my food was served to me in(a to-go, Styrofoam container. Not the classiest move but practical since I’m sure many people don’t finish all their food and it saves them from having to wait in line to ask for to-go containers. It also keeps them from having to wash too many dishes). They weren’t the best fries I’ve ever had but they were mighty good. They were a bit bland and could’ve used some more seasoning to up their score. The friend I was with paid for the onion rings and really enjoyed them. He said he couldn’t taste the onion much but if their shrimp is fried in the same batter as the onion rings they are most likely amazing. To the whole reason we were there, the cheeseburger. Their meat sandwich was far above average in flavor. I’m not sure what kind of bacon they used but it was very thick, very peppery, and quite crispy which complimented the salty, creamy cheese very well. The beef patty itself was very thin but did offer a nice, smoky flavor and was complimented well with the bacon and cheese rather than overpowering. It was a bit too thin to tell whether or not it was juicy. I don’t eat very much in one sitting so it was fine by me but a burger enthusiast might be a bit put off by the size of the beef patty. The toppings were bountiful. There was tons of crispy lettuce, nice tomato, and lovely onions. The burger itself was about 75% veggies which I’m a huge fan of so I was happy. Make sure you ask for light lettuce if that’s not your thing. The bun was nice and soft but didn’t get soggy. It held everything together. It didn’t have an especially standout flavor to it but with the taste of the bacon/cheese/beef/lettuce/tomato/onion/jalapenos, that was fine by me. The jalapenos were very good as well, in that their sweetness didn’t stand before their spiciness. They added a nice kick of flavor so all parts of my tongue were being satisfied in taste and texture in each bite. The service was fine for what you’d expect. The man who took our order(I’m assuming owner?) was very friendly and it took about 10 – 15 minutes to prepare our food. This wait time is perfect because it shows that your food is freshly cooked and not just sitting under a heat lamp. My Diet Coke had a ton of ice in it for my standard so make sure to ask for light ice if you’re like me and would rather have more beverage than ice. I’m certainly not knocking the restaurant for it, just personal preference. I’m not sure if they charged for refills or not. I’m assuming they would not. With«C» being average: Burger — B+(That bacon made the burger, can still taste it. Yum!) Crinkle Cut Fries — B– Ambiance — C(Would have liked some music, something on the table, pictures in the window) Service — B Value — A(Just over $ 8 for the whole meal!) Overall: B Excellent burger shack. I will recommend to people in the area. A friend of ours was sick and couldn’t come so when he’s well I will take him here. Well done.

I have been to this burger place a few times and each time it seems like it keeps getting better and better; food wise… I have been trying something new each time but today, I have to admit; the Grilled Chicken Sandwich was absolutely delicious. Juicy, tender and almost the perfect moisture. Definitely recommend it to all.

Tried this place out for the first time today, ordered a double bacon cheeseburger, buffalo chicken balls, and a shake. The burger was ok nothing extraordinary about it, reminded me of whataburger except BBV’s bacon is a lot thicker and crispier. The BCB were good would definitely come back for those, the shakes weren’t anything special either. Overall not bad but not great

It was okay, but to call this a great burger is a stretch. Went during lunch in the middle of the week, nobody else was there and the wait for the food was long. If you looking for a quick lunch then it’s fine. If you looking for a great burger, look elsewhere. If I eat here again it’ll be for convenience, not because I searched them out again.

Love this place. Best place to get a burger and fries on the north side of Houston. This little burger shack is located on the west side of the Hardy Toll Road, just south of Little York Rd. Don’t let the appearance of this place fool you, they serve some mean burgers. The onion rings are also really good. I’ve heard the Gyro sandwich is good but we prefer either the cheese burger or chili– cheese burgers. The crinkly fries are also so crisp and so very good.

This little place was great! The burgers are juicy and fresh. The service was fast and very good. The meat patty was thin, so you may want to get a double even if you usually only go for a single patty. Give it a try!

I recently moved near here but my boyfriend grew up here and grew up with these burgers. I can see why the FIRST thing he wanted to do after moving back was grab some grub from Big Burger V !! It’s a lot of food for the price. Absolutely delicious. Basket burgers come with double patties and a mountain of fries! My daughter loves the grilled cheese sandwich. They have shrimp, fish, chicken.. there’s something for everyone. Definitely hit this place up if you’re nearby!

I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here again. Saw the reviews on Unilocal that looked great. Ordered a cheeseburger, strawberry shake and onion rings. All 3 were hyped by reviews. Burger was ok but certainly nothing special. Shake was good. They used strawberry syrup so there was no strawberries harmed in making this product. Would have preferred to have some chunks of strawberry. Onion rings were pretty bad. Oil tasted old and the rings were super greasy. Maybe it was a bad day. I would try them again but wouldn’t seek them out

This place lost my business today. I ordered a shrimp dinner. When I arrived at home my wife took a bite of the shrimp and found hairs inside the batter. So I told my wife to give me the food so I can go get my refund. When I arrived at Big Hairy Burger V the only thing the manager or owner said that they have been in business for 40 Years. Maybe your old ass should get your staff to wear hair nets. Nasty, dirty and disgusting. I will never go back to this place again. I won’t recommend this filthy place to anyone. Thanks for wasting my time.

Just a straight up good ol’ hamburger. Single patty is plenty for a lady that’s looking to stay trim and slim. I had it with jalapenos, no cheese. A bargain too. 2 burgers(one with cheese), fries(one basket is plenty for 2), and 2 small cokes for $ 10. FANTASTIC. And for the price it doens’t make you feel gross like fast food places.

This place is probably in the oddest place in Houston but it’s definitely worth the drive! Everything is homemade and tastes like an authentic drive-in. It’s worth to sit and eat because the food is simply delicious. Onion rings are old-fashioned and incredible. Love the bacon cheeseburger with jalapeños. Recommend this place!
