Make sure you sample before you leave! My food was ice cold! I’m pissed! Serving cold wings is not what’s up! I didn’t eat in the restaurant but I did from the food truck and they suck. I consider myself a mac and cheese connoisseur and theirs sucks royally! I even asked the guy if it was good and he said it was… not that I expected him to answer me honestly. The chicken wings were burned and cold… how does that happen? They weren’t very friendly either. I believe the owner was out of town… they usually pump some good old school tunes out of the truck and I’ll have to say that’s the only good thing about it. Save your money peeps!

The location at 3620 Scott is closed, however Bobbie has a food truck that is regularly parked outside of the Dowling Lounge at 4409 Dowling. It’s usually there after 9p, Wed — Sunday. The BBQ is still good and the pineapple baked beans are jerk chicken are worth a try as well.

This is the best BBQ that I’ve had in Houston since moving here. The ribs are made Memphis style and the other meats are pretty solid as well. He puts some kind of fruit in the baked beans and they’re really good. The place is in a pretty shady area. Be careful.

Dinner for two that tastes wonderful and under $ 25?!! Friendly service with suggestions that were on the money?!! YES! I had first sampled the great food offered here at a catered awards dinner, and came back for more. The sides are stellar and have a little something different in each to make them have a homemade/handmade taste and memorable — the beans have a little pineapple, the potato salad has a little chopped pickle, the mac and cheese is soooo cheesy and the slaw is succulent! And for a Rib Place, Bobbie Ques has some of the best fries! The meat stands above many other competitors and the sauce… I am going to take it home! I had Rib tips and savored every piece! Kool Aid and Peach Tea round out the dinner and are Southern Sweet… Y’all know what I mean! Serving sizes are generous so come hungry!

I decided to try Bobbie Ques since a friend recommended it. My review is, it was just alright. I had the bbq chicken dinner with potato salad and baked beans. The sauce is pretty good and the potato salad is delicious. I also had some peach tea. it was pretty good but reeeeeallly sweet(you can tell, I’m not from the south lol). The portions were huge and well priced. Some other good things about Bobbie Ques is that the interior is pretty nice for a bbq spot and the service was good too. Next time I visit, I wanna try those loaded potatoes. They look so good! Hopefully when I do I can update and have more stars for Bobbie Ques.

In a gang-war style debate about Thelma’s vs Bobbie Que’s we finally reached an impasse and decided one meal at each and we would see who the last BBQer standing would be. It ended up with the same impasse — both are good, but I still think Thelma’s food is better, although the workers really make you cringe and reconsider going there sometimes. The workers here are not as bad as Thelma’s, so perhaps the slight edge has been granted. The worst thing I can say about the food is that the mac and cheese is disappointingly bad. And that upsets me because I love me some mac and cheese. So disappointing, I need a minute to cry before I can finish writing this review … Okay. Mac and cheese bad, but everything else good. The ribs are rather good. The brisket is my favorite. And the employees are not super rude like at Thelma’s. All in all, a good choice for some BBQ, but not the best in Houston.

A Big, Fat MEEEEHHH to this place… i think the 4* reviews hyped this up a little too much, but i was expecting something much better… when you can’t discern between papa’s bbq and a small joint like this, then there’s problems ordered a 2 meat combo(ribs and brisket) with sauce on the side and mac and cheese and beans to-go…not a slice of bread or a sliver or onion was to be seen on my platter… nor sauce on the side… i should have paid attention to that uneasy feeling after ordering the ribs and SLICED brisket…“we dont’ have sliced brisket… just chopped brisket… it’s the same thing”…no, dude, it ain’t…and as a black bbq’er from texas, you know in your heart it’s not… anyway, other than the tablespoon of bbq sauce thrown onto the ribs and brisket, there was nothing… no hint of rub, no salt or pepper, no mesquite or hickory or anything… i can do some damage to a 2 meat combo plate… i barely touched half the food… brisket tasted like it could have been canned, sent to mars, and fed to astronauts who have gotten used to the taste of slop… the ribs? unfortunately, i only had a yard of floss left at work the beans and mac don’t need a review… no one goes to a bbq joint for sides with so many other bbq places to go to, there’s no need to come back here after such disappoinment… were bread, onions, and sauce on the side to be had in my order, then a 2* «Meh I’ve had better» rating would be a bit more accurate… but after having eaten the food, the chopped brisket«sold» to me, and not getting enough sauce to just give the meat some kind of redemption… well, then u get this review

A place I can walk to from campus that’s not fast food and less than $ 10? Yes, I’m a fan! I went here with a small group of my fellow grad students. The seating is limited, but we were lucky that we were only a small group… more than 6 in your group and you might be out of luck! The important part though is that the food is good, and pretty cheap. I got the rib tips and fries, it was about $ 6.50 and more food than I could eat. It takes a few minutes to get the food, but it was worth the wait, as it was very good! I’m defiantly planning to hit this place up again, and probably try something else on the menu. Oh, one negative, they ran out of sweet tea… not that I had ordered it, but I might have if it wasn’t out!

I reaaaally wanted to give this place five stars, but too bad THEYRANOUTOFRIBS!!! WTF??? Run out of ribs??? *sigh. So, I settled for the rib tips, and the loaded baked potato. I was incredily disappointed by the rib tips. HOWEVER, the loaded potato was the best I’ve ever had. They don’t just cut the potato in half, and try to stuff as much cheese and other goodes as possible in that little crack down the middle. No no. They open it up all the way so that there is only a thin layer of potato under a massive layer of butter, cheese, bacon, and chives.(I’m drooling.) Next time. I guess I’ll have to try the ribs… with a loaded potato on the side. :)

After the demise of South Philly Steaks I was surprised to see a BBQ joint take its place. Actually I wasn’t THAT surprised. I mean c’mon… this is Houston. It was good to have one closer to campus. I was immediately drawn in by the $ 5.00 rib tip special. If it weren’t for friends in the Midwest I wouldn’t know what a rib tip was, nor would I know what to expect. I ordered my rib tips & fries and was surprised by the sauce. It was a little tangy compared to the stuff we’re used to getting down here. That didn’t matter because it… was… GOOD! I’ve been there several times since then. I recommend the pulled pork(Texans have been sleeping on this for a minute) and the jerk chicken. That’s right. I said jerk chicken. It’s the right blend of sweet and spice without killing your guts. Mr. Bobbie is there pretty often and has no problem engaging in good conversation. I’ll be back there pretty soon.

This little BBQ joint has been getting some decent rave on Unilocal lately so I had this place bookmarked as I’m always looking for solid Q. I had just finished checking out UH’s campus and the Blaffer gallery and had built up a decent appetite so what do I do? Use my iPhone app and it reminded me that this place was only minutes away. We pulled up and it’s a small house with a trailer next to it. We figured hole in the wall could be interesting. It’s actually pretty nice inside they even had a LCDTV inside with cable showing the game. We were greeted by a nice lady behind the counter. It took me a few minutes to look over the menu but I finally decided on the three meat platter. I had the beef brisket, pork ribs, and sausage and my gf had the chicken dinner. First off the best part of my platter was the sausage the other 2 meats were OK nothing special though. However, it was topped with some of the best sauce I had ever tasted! Apparently this place is known for their sauce they offer 5 different flavors and they sell the stuff by the bottle. We had the smoky and it was delicious. My gf’s chicken was moist and was literally half of a chicken and it laid on a bed of rice. Both of our platters came with 2 sides each. We tried the mac and cheese, potato salad, cole slaw, and fries. All sides were good, nothing particularly stood out but definitely devoured it all. I wasn’t a fan of their cornbread that also accompanied the meal. All of that food was cheap! A little over 20 bucks for the 2 of us. They also offer many student deals for around 5 bucks. If you’re a UH student or around the area make sure to make stop on by and make sure to try the sauce.

I was just passing through town after a couple years away and I was so excited to go to Thelma’s, the best BBQ in the city, which just moved into the same area as Bobbie’s. Unfortunately, Thelma’s was closed, so I looked up what was nearby and Bobbie’s sounded like an ok alternative. It was very clean and the service was very good. However, the meat was just not good – at all. The brisket was not fresh to begin with, and it had not a whiff of smokiness to it. In fact, it clearly tasted of gas or lighter fluid. Not in an overpowering way, but enough to disappoint. By contrast, you can just walk up to the door of Thelma’s while it is closed and you smell a delicious smokiness permeating the entire grounds, since they cook their meat daily in wood-smoke grills. there was another place down the street that I bet was better than Bobbie’s.

I visited Bobbie Que’s a few weeks ago. I was excited to try it after Solange Knowles(Beyonce’s little sister) tweeted about it and I’m from Texas and love BBQ. I went a little after lunch time on a Friday during lent, so there wasn’t a crowd. There were specials for the day also, I believe it was a fish plate or a rib tip plate for $ 5. I am a frugal person and those were tempting options, but I opted for the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and baked beans as sides. This option wasn’t that much more expensive and I ordered a can soda. The sandwich was awesome. The bun was perfectly toasted and delicious. The sandwich was sloppy due to the BBQ sauce and condiments I add, but it was so delicious and the sauce was the bomb! The beans were sweet because of the pineapple, which is something I have never had before and the potato salad was better than my dad’s(if that means anything to you). The restaurant was clean and very small. I thought the service was fast and the workers were friendly. The lady who took our orders niceness did seem forced, but I didn’t mind… maybe she was having a bad day and least she put forth the effort!

I was craving for some ribs and came across this place. I had a rack of rib and mac and cheese. Hehe… I looked around the place and alot of people were eating alot of bbq. It all looked delicious! The ribs were super delicious. I think I have to introduce this place to some of my friends. Hehe. next time when I’m here, I would most definitely try some other meats that they have here. Yum!

The interior was unexciting and the service was slow but none of that really matters because this little take out place simply kills. Every item they serve is flavorful and cooked correctly. The restaurant is located across the street from the University of Houston’s Robertson Stadium and it is sure to be packed after every football game.

Everything was delicious. I went for the first time with 3 friends, and between all of us we ate their jalapeño sausage, pulled pork, pulled chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, jalapeño cornbread and baked beans. The bbq meats were all super tender and full of flavor; simply excellent. Sauces were exactly what I like too: good smoky flavor with a touch of sweetness. Potato salad was perfect, baked beans were interesting as they had pineapple in them too(added a nice flavor), and the cornbread had a great kick to it. Cole slaw had a little too much mayonnaise though. All in all great, but the service was really slow, hence 4 stars. If you like BBQ check out Bobbie Que’s. I’m glad they replaced South Philly Steaks.
