Every time I have been here I always have fun. The bar on the first floor is where people chill and on the second floor is where the DJ is and there is also a smaller side bar… when we went this past Saturday the DJ was playing 90s music and it was packed! Everybody was dancing and having fun. When your legs need a break they have a nice sized patio outside to rest. I’ve only been here on Saturdays and it’s always crowded. Parking can be difficult at times. You can either come early to get nearby parking, pay for valet(in front of Stone’s Throw/Anvil etc), or park down the street at some of the bars with more spaces, order up so you won’t get towed, and then bar hop down to here.

Boondocks is really more of a bar and hangout place than a dance club and music venue as majority of the customers are there for drinks and hanging out on the patio for some great social time. I mean, whenever Boondocks throw a 90s dance party or any other dance music is playing upstairs, people do go and dance but most of the time people are there to chill, drink, and socialize. I do like the Sunday karaōke where you get to perform on the stage and people would go crazy on great performances. The drinks are good price as it’s still close to the dive-y price along with the dive-y service. But the best part is definitely the crowd. On a recent trip here, I was just sitting out on the patio by myself and a guy sat next to me to start a conversation and it turns out we were from the same hood’(Alief!) and we talked about some of the things only we would have experienced. From there I was able to meet his sibling and had a shot with them. Another time is when I was here for the Sunday karaōke, I did one of 90s rap song so well that one of the girl in the crowd started to twerk on me and ‘making it rain’ dollar bills on me. Yes, I can’t believe I actually got paid for doing bad karaōke. I haven’t had a bad time here at all whenever my friends and I want to go to Boondocks. The only sticky thing is the parking. Then again, this goes for all the bars in the same area but for new comers, it may be a bit difficult to find free parking without needing to park in the neighborhood behind the bar area or get ticketed for parking on the wrong block.

If you want to have a lot of alcohol in your blood and dance through the night, then this is the place you are looking for. The cocktails on the first floor are horrible. We ordered Long Island Iced Teas and neither did they taste good, nor did they have the proper color that they should have. I guess they messed up the proportions, but that is not what you expect from a bartender. On the second floor, the bartender was better and he made us a couple of excellent Kamikazes. It was a mixed experience but I would give them 4 stars considering the place for dancing on the second floor.

Super cheap drinks with strong pours. Great music on most weekend nights(haven’t gone on a weekday night), great for dancing. Fun photobooth if you feel like snapping some party shots. And a great patio if you want to chill outside and talk. After 2am, grab some food at Koagie Hots or Rice Box. Perfect night out!

Me and my friends talk a lot about this bar’s downfalls, but it’s always the place we end up when we’re out in Montrose. I kind of love that about it. The drinks are cheap, with dollar wells til 8pm daily. After about 10−11pm it gets crowded, but the music is great on hip hop night and the dancing is fun.

Tried it once, a second and finally a third time. Really thought maybe the first two times it was a coincidence and it was a hot night out, but now I’m sure there is no working AC in this joint, like ever. The drinks are cheap, therefore there’s always people at the bar, so expect a good 10 – 15 minutes wait time to get a drink. Upstairs is just so very much crowded and loud, which is fine if that’s what you’re into. Thankfully there is a patio where you can get some fresh air before you suffocate inside. The bathrooms are just so wrong they are actually cool. The crowd, just regular kids who want to have a good time. 90’s night is actually fun. In my opinion it’s just one of those bars you stop by for a drink before hitting your final spot of the night.

Stopped in for a birthday celebration last Saturday night. Had a great time. We arrived early so there weren’t too many people there, eventually it got full. The crowd was very mature and diverse. Hardly a thug or gang member in sight(I can spot them, trust me, it’s my job to recognize them). Bar tenders were attentive but only after a generous tip. Music was ok. The DJ played 90s hip hop and rap only, no freestyle, no house, no techno, etc… We thought 90s night included all genres. Over all it was a fun night. If you go there with a group, get there early. I recommend this place if your bar hoping in the Montrose area.

Yes, as everyone has mentioned this place is great on the weekends for dancing and whatnot… But what many of you probably don’t know is that they do stand-up comedy acts from locals on Tuesday nights. It’s so much fun to go watch! It usually doesn’t get too crowded, but if you like comedians, you’ll enjoy this. Go check it out!

I really enjoy boondocks. Especially before 10/11PM. It’s a chill place to grab a drink until then. After that… Well, I hope you drank enough. The bar gets packed, and it’s wall to wall. That said, the music upstairs is bangin’ and it’s one of my favorite places to get my groove on in Montrose. The drinks are made strong. Bathroom can get a little… Dicey. Not the biggest bathroom considering how many people they must be cramming into the place. Go. Give it a try. It’s got its shortcomings, but it’s still one of my favorite Montrose places on a Friday or Saturday night. And at other times, I’m sure it’s a nice casual dive bar to grab a drink.

I love the classic hiphop/90’s jams the DJ was spinning at this place, I had forgotten of much I loved to dance my a$$ off. The bartender serves the drinks quickly even with a large crowd. Down side, this place has the filthiest floors ever, my white sandals are ruined. No cover charge which is really nice. I might have to go back another time.

If you are the regular fool who likes hype music, you might not get the vibe of this place, but for the person in town wondering where is there a good house music trippy dance till your ego vanishes kind of place, then Boondocks it is. nice crowd, fairly priced drinks, and the ambiance is just delightful. If you’ve been around the house scene in other cities or parts of the world, you’ll catch the drift right away, specially since Houston is lacking places like this.

If you want to channel your inner youth and«relive college nights» then come to Boondocks. There’s no cover, and the DJ plays some great throwbacks and current hits perfectly mixed for some fun dancing. The dance floor upstairs is always packed and the bartender is relatively quick with preparing drinks. Come for a fun«dance night» with the girls or a big group of friends.

Thought I’d mention that if you’re like me, and are cold indoors, you will need a sweater here. Even when it’s not crazy hot out, this bar is always freezing

We came here for karaōke on Sunday but there was a metal band instead. Apparently we were in the wrong bar, but if that’s so then signage may be an issue. Either way, clientele was a mix of punks, rockers, and hipsters. The prices were good and I understand they have a good happy hour. The space is beautiful and seems like it should be a nice cocktail bar/speakeasy. Instead, it’s sometimes violent and loud. Oh well…

Through the years I’ve had a blast at Boondocks. Countless Halloweens I’ve ventured upstairs to shake my ass and make out with Shredder or Fred Flinestone. The music is a breath of fresh air in comparison to other places one might call«da club». What’s NOT a breath of fresh air is the dank, sewer smell that hits you EVERYTIME you walk in. The first time I noticed it I assumed it was just a one time thing but… no. It was so bad last time my friend and I walked in and walked right back out. Seriously Boondocks, help me out here.

Boondocks is your typical kind of bar. Loud music inside with a dance floor on the second floor. The drinks aren’t too terribly priced but it’s tough to get the bartenders attention sometimes. Not the place to go if you’re looking to relax and hang out with some friends for a conversation. If you just want to dance and drink, this may be the place for you.

Stones throw is basically taken over the parking lot but I drive a scooter now so I don’t care really. Not too find of the chain of bars n restaurants taking over the strip tho. Now no specials at boons at night but there’s still the $ 1/wells 5 – 8 everyday and the burger guy on Sunday you only need to tip. Still doubt I’ll come here as much as I used to if they’ll even let me in again. Had some bad experiences here and had a phone stolen. And a friend had his wallet stolen. Obviously were also at fault but I’m Not too fond of being around people that would rather steal in a small group or small bar. Parking lot is broken up. Good luck walking out wasted. I still have MAD love for the bartenders and the door guys. But not that upset gay pride will not be on this strip since they own that entire side of the street

While sometimes the crowd can be a bit rowdy, and there are a fair share of sloshed patrons, overall I have got to say that I enjoy my time at Boondocks most of the time. I mostly go for their dance party’s which I believe are some of the best in Houston(people that love to dance and have a good time). Now I also have gone when it’s a slow night, and this is where my lower score comes into play. Messy messy messy people! haha sometimes they ruin the experience for those who just want to sit and talk, or listen to the music while sippin’ their drink. For the most part though, it can be a fun experience.

Cool spot. The crowd is a bit younger than my 30 something butt. Music was cool, everyone was enjoying themselves, and then we prepared to leave only to find our car was towed. Beware… no parking in the rear!
