Me and my man strolled inside BoB to watch a Sunday night football game. This was the emptiest bar I’ve been to in the longest time, but that gave it a fun element knowing that we didn’t have to shout at each other. I didn’t have high expectations for the food and my instincts served me well. Good thing the mozza sticks came out by accident, biting into it was the second mistake of the situation. We traded them in for our loaded fries which was par for course. The staff was chill and friendly. Not after long we found ourselves playing table tennis now that the table was open. Only the few patrons who were present were in the lounge chairs that filled one side of the bar, they didn’t seem to mind our ruckus. Parking was easy for us but that tiny lot could be an issue during busier times.

Casual bar that offers board games, ping pong, billiards, shuffleboard, and the game with the hook and ring. Typical pricing for a midtown bar. Heavy UT crowd on Saturdays. Decent daily drink specials and buckets. Multiple tvs and great staff. While it is a very typical bar, I will continue to return.

If I could give zero I would. Bouncer spent the whole time treating my Asian friend terribly. Constantly threatened kicking him out despite the fact that he(my friend) never deserved even the slightest of reprimands. The night culminated in some douchebag(of which there were many) acting like a Jenga block was his dick towards my wife(borat voice) … me confronting him, and us getting kicked out by some bald bouncer with what was undoubtably a micro phallus. Bottom line, I had a good time, but I wish I had punched the small dick bouncer and the ginger douche with wishful Jenga imagination in the face. Maybe next time. 5 stars.

Bar is somewhat lacking in management. My boyfriend and I only come here whenever they hold Arizona watch parties. I would definitely come here more often if I felt like they were on top of their game. I believe they had a bartender that had red or bright fuchsia hair and she was by far the slowest. She didn’t know how to consolidate her tasks. Multiple people ordered drinks from her and instead of making multiple at a time she would make one at a time putting herself in the weeds. This makes people wait longer and in turn give her less in tips. Bartenders need to be quick and smart and I felt like she was lacking in that. One other thing is that she had the audacity to put her finger up to my face when I tried to get her attention. Rude…

Came here for a UT game and loved it. The place has a bunch of TVs and just about any game you could want. They had Pinkerton’s BBQ serving during the game, which is awesome. I also tried some of my friend’s burger off of their«all the time» menu. It was pretty damn good. They use a Slow Dough bun, which I’m not crazy about, but I’m in the minority on that one. The beef is damn good, 44 Farms for the foodies out there. They also run some great specials during games, like $ 20 St. Arnold’s and Karbach buckets. They have a couple of pool tables, shuffleboard and ping pong and they’re all free, which is a nice touch. Bottom line, I’ll definitely be back during every UT game and will definitely come here for a burger and a few beers even not on game days.

We used to go to Bourbon on Bagby as the Penn State Midtown bar until they dropped us. It was ok… several beer options. Aside from that, they’ve go the most incredible french fries you’ve ever had. They put sugar on them, so they are practically addictive! I go back for the fries, but not really for the atmosphere or the other food/beer. There are better places in Midtown.

I love this bar, definitely my favorite hangout with friends/happy hour spot in midtown. It is much more laid back(and less expensive!) than all of the other spots, and there’s actually lot parking/street parking available. They have great happy hour specials and munchy food(it’s not the best food you’ve ever had, but it’s pretty good for bar food). There are tons of games like pool, shuffle board, ping pong, and FLIPCUP! tons of couches and bar seating, and TVs everywhere, so it’s a great atmosphere for watching games. Both indoor and outdoor seating, and this is one of the bars where you can bring your dog to hangout. Don’t expect to be dancing/grinding on strangers — you will actually talk to people at a normal volume here. It is really great for large groups of friends that just want to meet and hangout at a bar.

I wanted to like Bourbon on Bagby, I really did. I live in the apartments adjacent to this bar and would’ve loved to have a bar right across the street that I could frequent for a quick bite and good drink. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Upon entering the establishment, my party of 2 decided to grab a seat outside as the weather was perfect. We took a seat on our own and assumed one of the staffers would run out to help us. This was not the case. The only other party there was a table of 3 sitting inside and yet we received no service. Instead, we had to leave our seat and go to the bar to grab menus. We took our seats with menu in hand and choose two dishes, a basket of fries and The Dirty Bird, a chicken sandwich promising chicken sandwich topped with bacon, cheese, jalapeños, jalapeño-ranch, and lettuce. We assumed someone would come out to take our order after visiting the bar and asking for menus earlier. We were again, wrong. Once again, we visited the bar and placed our order. After approximately 30 minutes I visited the bar to make sure our food wasn’t ready and sitting unattended at the bar as the staffers seem incapable of making a quick visit outside to visit there now, only customers. They told me they would bring our food out when it was ready and the reason it was taking so long was because they were waiting on the breast to thaw for the chicken sandwich. I found this odd as we arrived an hour after they opened, at four(they open at three), and yet they still seemed unprepared for their one and only customer. 15 – 20 minutes later, the bartender came out and said the chicken still had not thawed and asked if we wanted to substitute a chicken thigh to speed up the process. We accepted the substitution as we were starving and ready for our food at this point. The food finally arrived at 5(again, we got there at 4). Admittedly, fries were the only enjoyable part of the meal. The long awaited Dirty Bird came in the form of chopped up chicken pieces covered in some sort of teriyaki glaze topped with shredded lettuce and smashed between a wheat bun. The promises of a delicious grilled chicken breast covered in jalapeño-ranch, bacon, and cheese quickly dissipated. I forced myself to eat about half, then once again, headed to the bar and closed out my tab. I wrapped up the remaining chicken and took it to my dog. At least she seemed to like it. I really wish I had had a good experience, because I would’ve loved to be able to stop in regularly for a quick eat or drink since my apartment is only a stones throw away. Sadly, this won’t be the case. TL;DR: I had to walk to the bar to receive any kind of service in an empty establishment, we waited an hour for our food, and when it finally did come, it was the wrong thing. I will not be returning to Bourbon on Bagby.

Great set up. Great atmosphere. Tv’s everywhere, nice billiards, shuffleboard, and ping pong! Plenty of seating inside with couch lounge section and outdoor patio area. Overall great place to come any night of the week early or late for food and drink

Went on a Sunday and the wings were .50 each. We ordered all three flavors. Our faves were the bbq and buffalo hot. The garlic parm was good but a bit greasy. Great wings overall.

This bar location is so hard to keep up with because I feel like the place is changing all the time. For now, this bar seems solid. It was somewhat of a mixed crowd, some of your typical midtown young pepople, and some a little older. The bar is really open, with a few tables, couches, etc for sitting and watching the game. The openness between the bar and tables seems a little awkward when there’s not a lot of people, but I can see where it would be good if the place was ever really packed. I like that they have lots of TVs and were really nice about changing one of the TVs to the game my friends and I wanted to watch. Actually, the staff was really really nice in general. When we ordered, our food came out fast. We got burgers and some appetizers. The food is nothing to rave about, but for bar food, it was good. I can see the patio here being packed when the weather is nice. I will have to come back again!

Cute place with friendly staff and tons of TVs. It was dead on a Saturday night. Not sure what’s going on here. This place has potential.

Categorizing Bourbon On Bagby as a «gastropub» is a bit of a stretch. That foodie buzzword usually implies that the bar makes an effort to offer restaurant-caliber bar food, but that’s not what this place is going for at all. Wings? Sure. Burgers? Check. A charcuterie arrangement of exotic cured meats and a locally-sourced cheese plate that would grab the attention of The Unilocal Elite™? Nah. In a word, it’s a fine sports bar. They have a great setup of TVs, a billiards table, and an easygoing owner who playfully talks trash to his customers with a wink and a smile. The variety of seating arrangements lends itself to having a good time drinking beers with strangers or with a group of friends, all within a comfortable distance of a TV. Bourbon On Bagby is an inviting place that reminds me of a fratty college sports bar, except that the patrons are a little older now. Like the other reviewer said, it has potential, but the establishment as it is now has little to distinguish itself from chains like Buffalo Wild Wings. Meh.

Glad to see the change in ownership/name! Came in for my bf’s work happy hour on a Thursday. Nice place to catch a game or sit in the patio. Both indoor and outside patio have large TV’s and plenty of seating and tables. Space is nice and drinks are good! We will come back!

Only came here because I heard it was a Penn State bar and I was hoping to finally find a place to watch PSU in the loop. Good layout here with 15+ TVs all with good viewing. Ordered wings and some vodka tonics that were mostly vodka(thanks!). Good atmosphere, seems to be mainly people in their 20s, which we are not. Food: 4.(Wings are great, but super greasy) Drinks: 5 Service: 4(but have to go to the bar) Atmosphere: 5 Price: TBD(haven’t gotten the check) Overall, we’ll be back, definitely for the Penn State games. Dear PSU alumni association of Houston, you should transfer here and average out the age… so I don’t feel so old. I mean, I’m Unilocaling while I’m here because we don’tesh with the young kids. But they would buy all sorts of Psu gear. WEARE…
