I’ve been here often. Great place to go for lunch close to work. Nothing exciting but it is clean, well priced and great service.

Oh. My. Gosh. This place was aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahmazing!!! Was getting my nails done down the street and hopped on Unilocal to find Chinese food, and ya’ll led me here. Went on Memorial Day Weekend around 3pm. They serve the lunch menu even on the weekends(awesome), they make their dumplings exactly how I love them(hand made and fresh), their egg drop soup was divine and had just a little bit of corn in it to add tiny bursts of sweet goodness, and my shrimp in garlic sauce was savory excellence. The restaurant décor is traditional with awe-inspiring statues, art, and calming ambiance. My friend and I had to decide if we’re going to tell our other friends about Café Ginger because it’s so good we kind of want to keep it to ourselves. Amazing random find, thanks previous Unilocalers for bringing this gem into my life!!!

Husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Café Ginger recently. We wanted to try something new and went off of good Unilocal reviews. Made a reservation for a Friday night, but really didn’t need one because it was pretty slow when we got there. Everyone that greeted us was very friendly, and they sat us at a table in the back room with the fireplace because it was a little more private. The décor in both the main area and this back room was lavish, and it gives the restaurant a fancier feel while still remaining casual. Service throughout the night was extremely attentive. Dinner was good– an interesting mix of Chinese and sushi. Sushi was alright, and the sesame chicken and spicy green beans were both tasty dishes that I would order again. They finished off the evening by surprising us with a sweet piece of cheesecake for our anniversary– a really kind gesture.

This is one of my favorite lunch spots. Buddha’s in different sizes are located all around the restaurant and there’s booth, table and sushi bar seating. They serve Chinese dishes as well as sushi(they do both well!). It generally gets crowded around 12pm so be sure to arrive early or go later in the day. Parking is never an issue and there’s ample parking in the Kroger lot next to the restaurant. My favorite dishes are Spicy & Tangy Chicken & Shrimp, General Tso’s Chicken, Summer Roll and Seafood Fried Rice. I hope to try more of their sushi because the dishes I’ve seen look fantastic. This place is worth a drive to River Oaks!

Nice ambience and the food was excellent. Would definitely go back to try something else. I’m not a fan of cheese puffs, and don’t usually eat them, not even when included in the meal, but for some reason I decided to give theirs a try, and they were very tasty. The host and waitress were nice but straight to the point: walk you to your table and take your order. Not very friendly, but that’s perfectly fine as long as the food and overall service was great.

Ordered delivery here yesterday. I normally order Auntie Changs but I decided to venture out and try out Café Ginger because I saw several great reviews on here… well — I was not impressed. Ordered the General Tso’s Chicken dinner combo with hot and sour soup and my boyfriend ordered the Sesame Chicken dinner combo with hot and sour soup. It was a pretty good deal for $ 10.95(entrée, rice, soup, and egg roll) and the delivery was fast. Aaannnnndddd that’s basically the only two nice things I can say about it. The food was just not very good. The hot and sour soup lacked any flavor whatsoever and the chicken was very bland. The egg roll was a bit soggy, not many vegetables in it. Eh, I tried. I’ll stick to what I know and love — Auntie Chang’s Dumpling House.

I’ve been here more than once & each time I’ve felt disrespected. I don’t use slang nor do I speak loudly… I did not like my last experience here. There was a misunderstanding on behalf of woman that took my order. Easy fix in my eyes, especially considering I tip 20% or higher no matter the restaurant, but instead entertaining my audience she shooed me away. A simple fried rice order gone wrong. How complicated could it be? I called later to try and get better understanding of the situation but it was to now avail. Instead of hearing me out I was suddenly cut off and informed that i ordered incorrectly. Why would I order fried rice without vegetables? My brain can’t understand this. I informed her that i wanted fried rice w/o meat… One might assume that their customer in vegetarian so why limit the vegetables? Why not hold the egg??? Nope, instead I was given fried rice… Nothing more or less. Strait. Fried. Rice. I am certainly irritated.

I’ve been here twice in the past two weeks. For two years I lived 5 minutes away and never came here once. I took a friend here for a belated birthday lunch. He was craving Chinese and although I’m not big on Chinese food, I was excited for their sushi/Japanese options. Everything was delish and I love the décor. Then I met my daughter here for«happy hour» on Tuesday. Sushi and calamari rocked! But I had to deduct a star because I asked for an Old Fashion and the manager made something that was basically bourbon and bitters. NOT! But will definitely be back.

Café Ginger is very much an Americanized treat, but fails greatly in terms of value and the Authentic Chinese experience. Surrounded by the likes of Del Frisco’s and America’s in the heart of River Oaks, this place should’ve been better. A lot better. I ordered the $ 16 Mongolian Beef for dinner – YES, $ 16, and YES, the Unilocal menu incorrectly lists it at $ 11 – and it was nothing to hit home about. It wasn’t a home-run, but it wasn’t bad, just a standard run-of-the-mill Mongolian Beef dish. You get P.F. Chang’s quality plus a 10% markup on P.F. Chang’s prices. They do give you a decent amount of food which is nice, but for nearly $ 20 plus tax and tip, you can get a MUCH better value deal elsewhere, for both Americanized and Authentic Chinese food. Inside, the atmosphere definitely caters towards the rich River Oaks crowd, coming off as an «upscale» Chinese restaurant through-and-through. While the ambience is great, it doesn’t make up for the overpriced food, since there are plenty of alternatives in the Houston area(we also have this place called Chinatown if you’re feeling adventurous). If you got a few bucks to spare and are seeking a cool atmosphere, feel free to take your entourage here. Otherwise, I’d stop at P.F. Chang’s or hit any spot in Chinatown for a better-valued meal.

I was informed that the owner is the same as Qin Dynasty’s. If you like Qin Dynasty, you’ll also like this place. The parking is also better here than at Qin’s. Once you walk in, it feels like a very upscale, high-end Chinese restaurant. Don’t let the décor fool you. The atmosphere/décor appears expensive, but the prices are affordable. I came for lunch and ordered from their lunch menu. They serve both Chinese and Japanese dishes so if you’re craving sushi, you’re in luck. Every dish on the lunch menu comes with a soup of your choice(wonton, egg drop, or hot and sour), egg roll or spring roll, and rice(brown, steamed, or fried). They’re known for their General Tso’s Chicken and Sesame Chicken, and they’re conveniently listed as the first two items on the menu. I decided to be healthy and ordered the Chicken with Vegetable, which tasted very light, healthy, but yet still flavorful. And the service? Typically what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant — just OK. They came by to take our order, dropped off our entrees when they were ready, and gave us the bill. Would I return? Sure. I recommend coming here if you’re craving some good Americanized Chinese food. Otherwise, if you want authenticity, skip it.

If the restaurants in China town are for traditional Chinese food, Café Ginger is where I go when I want American Chinese food like General Tso’s, lo mein, and fried rice. The interior of this place is modern and clean with dim lights, I guess to appeal to river oaks population. Food is inexpensive for the area and in generous portion. They also deliver which is a big plus! I’ve done dining in, delivery and takeout and haven’t had any unpleasant experience. Here are my recommendations: General tso’s chicken Sesame chicken Chicken with eggplant Special fried rice Happy family Spicy green beans Again, don’t expect authentic Chinese food from here, I would still hit China town for authentic Szechuan or Peking duck. TL;DR if you are looking for good quality Americanized Chinese food in River Oaks area, go here.

I had the Spicy Green Beans from the vegetarian menu. The flavor was good, but they were WAY too salty. My friend had the crispy eggplant with chicken, which she liked. However, it was very rich, so a full plate was a bit too much for her. My other friend had the special lo mein. I tasted it, and it was the best of all three dishes — smoky and flavorful. The room is impressive, with high ceilings and nice furniture. Service was good.

I ended up coming here because brasserie 19 was packed! The food was okay., I had calamari(my absolute favorite) and wonton soup. The calamari was decent but the spicy dipping sauce was not. The wonton soup was very bland, which was a disappointment. I may return and try something else.

If you’re planning to see a movie at River Oaks Theater, you can’t go wrong with Café Ginger. Yes it’s located in River Oaks but reasonably priced for what I was expecting. It’s more expensive than your average run of the mill Chinese restaurant, but there’s also a noticeable uptick in quality. First off, the restaurant has a beautiful interior with a variety of Buddhas and other Asian décor. Definitely impressive. There’s a happy hour menu with quite a few selections but I opted for the sesame chicken with brown rice which was excellent. We all have been to those Chinese restaurants where the chick is a little questionable or where the chicken is really more batter than meat. This is not the case at Café Ginger. Quality chicken and a superior meat to batter ratio. I can’t believe i just wrote that but let’s move on.

Oh man why had I not tried Café Ginger before! Located in the River Oaks Shopping Center, Café Ginger serves multiple Asian cuisines(including a sushi bar).Usually restaurants that do this are not very good, but Café Ginger has some really delicious food. I’ve been here a few times and the food and service are always on point! The interior is also very beautiful. What to try: For appetizer the crispy rolls were absolutely delicious! Crab puffs are legit and the hot and sour soup is very good as well Entrees: The General Tso’s Chicken is perfectly battered and oh so tender. Good every single time. The Mongolian Beef was perfect and well portioned. Chicken with eggplant is really good as well. So far these at the menu items I’ve tried and everything has been so good. Definitely a place in going to frequent more often and try the other options. My new go to place!

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the cooks here specialize in meat. No matter what dish I always order, if there is meat, it is cooked to perfection. The rib appetizer are some of the best done Asian ribs I’ve come across, with a sauce that’s out of this world. Then, the beef in the beef and broccoli is tender and tastes fresh. I usually come here for work lunches. I hope to experience the dinner ambiance soon.

I had sort of avoided this place thinking it would probably be really expensive. However, my husband had a few beers next door at Local Pour and thought«meh, why not?». We ordered the Beijing Duck which was essentially Peking Duck rolled into 2 larger portions somewhat like Moo Shu. Yum! The man serving us the dish(which he made table side) said it was like«a Chinese burrito» and laughed a little. It was awesome. The pancakes could have been a little more fresh, overall really good though. Then we had Sesame Chicken and Special Fried Rice. This was one of the best Sesame Chicken dishes I’ve ever had! It was cut in larger chunks from chicken breasts and it was so tender. The taste of the actual sauce was perfect and the batter was amazing also. It was just wonderful! The Fried Rice I thought was pretty good. My husband is obsessed with Fried Rice and said it was one of the best he’d tried. I personally thought it was good but I’ve had better. I’m not the Fried Rice expert so maybe he’s right?! The décor is lavish, not what I expected from the outside. Cool ambiance and has a classier feel to it. We sat in a cozy booth with white table clothes and cotton napkins. Our waiter was really upbeat and the food came out at a reasonable rate.
