A must visit every time I come to Houston. I’ve been here about 5 times and made a point to try different things even visit. All have been a hit. Great food, great atmosphere!

We discovered Café Pita last year after watching an episode of Diners, Dives and Drive Thrus. It’s now one of our favorite restaurants. We’ve tried several dishes but keep coming back to the lamb shank. If you go, try it first. The appetizers are a great way to sample the unique flavors of Bosnian food. The staff has always been courteous and prompt.

This place is the WORST! We walked in for lunch and it was burning up in there! I informed the staff and one of them said, oh, I just turned it on! It’s 12 noon!!! It’s 90 degrees outside! Anyhow then we sat down and no one greeted us and after waiting 15 minutes and sweating we decided to go elsewhere! Don’t go here is you are looking for customer service or air conditioning!

Staff was nice. We had a large order, which we were going to have delivery service, didn’t happen. So we went to pick up the order. I should have checked before leaving, but I trusted that it was correct. Most of the order was right. Some didn’t make back to the office. When I called back to inform them, I was told they would give me the difference back. But the next day, not the day of. I’d have to talk to the manager the next day. Didn’t get the hummus, or the chicken gyro platter never made it back. We’ve already paid for it today, but I have to wait for tomorrow for my refund.

A few months ago, this would have been a 5-star review… But what a shame … I have been going to Café Pita Plus since it first opened in its original location years ago. I always loved it, and I always recommended it to my friends. A couple of days ago, I called in for dinner from the internet menu and picked it up at Richmond. What a disappointment: the dish contents were not as described anymore, the portions smaller, the flavors are ‘not the same’ and the prices jacked up 30%. It turns out that botgh Café Pita locations were bought by new people who changed things around. At least, it was just dinner for me and my wife. So I did not suffer an embarrassment in front of guests that I had been telling how great this little ‘secret’ restaurant is, like I had done many, many times before. Ah well, I am sorry to lose a favorite but fortunately, Houston always has great little ‘secret’ restaurants.

Quaint atmosphere and completely delicious food. The Cevap sandwich was prepared perfectly and the baklava cheesecake was a must have. The portions were very filling. I highly recommend this place

Bosnian cuisine is a very pleasant surprise. But it’s BYOB.

Excellent homemade style Eastern European dishes. You won’t think much of it from outside, as it is placed in a in-renovation strip mall off Westheimer. However, don be fooled by its appearance — the inside is cozy and nicely decorated. The service is top notch. Waitresses and probably owner came several times by our table during our short lunch time. Food is incredible. We have tried a mixed plate for two, with cevap, three meat assortments, eggplant spread, on a bed of rice. So tasty, that we ordered stuffed cabbage rolls to fill our appetite for homemade delights.

An excellent little Mediterranean restaurant tucked away in a strip mall that you wouldn’t give a second thought to if you’d driven by. Heck, you might not even notice the sign with all of the other places advertised on the marquee. There are two entrances– the one on the left takes you into the restaurant proper, while the one on the right takes you into a mini Bosnian grocery store. They don’t have a ton of items there, but it looks like they’ve imported authentic items from their homeland. I couldn’t read any of the packaging, so I let it go. There are a mix of traditional tables and chairs and tables surrounded by these cute booths that reminded me of Turkish lounge seating. My girlfriend loves sitting at booths, so you can guess where we ended up. They had a television in plain sight where we were, but they were getting some kind of international feed that kept freezing. It was interesting to see a San Antonio Spurs game broadcast in a foreign language. We ordered the combination plate, a mix of cevap(seasoned ground meat served like sausage links), pljeskavice(like a burger stuffed with seasoning, mushrooms, onions, etc.), chicken and beef kabobs, basmathi rice, eggplant dip, and yogurt dip. The top of the dish was covered in your typical kabob vegetables. Everything was delicious. We were partial to the kabobs– my girlfriend tore through the chicken ones, and I made a point of saving the beef kabob to finish off the meal. The restaurant was very slow– we were the only table when we arrived and one of three when we left– so we expected quick service. While the food came out quickly and the server was very sweet, the service as a whole was very inattentive. They never came by to check on us until they asked if we wanted dessert, our drinks were never refilled, and we had to ask for them to bring out the lepinja bread that was supposed to be served with our entrée. I’ll definitely be back here to try some of the other stuff on the menu, especially after reading some of the other reviews and seeing items we didn’t try be highly recommended.

Haven’t tried Bosnian food yet? Don’t be intimidated, it’s delicious and worth the drive to this fantastic place. Just imagine Mediterranean food done slightly different than what you would expect. There were so many fabulous choices on the menu that it was hard to choose just one. I settled on the Stuffed Pljeskavice. It was bigger than I thought and almost too much food to eat in one sitting, but the flavor kept me going back for another bite. My husband had the weekend lamb special — the flavor was perfect!!! Lamb can have a strong and distinctive game flavor, but the rotisserie lamb was cooked so well to perfection that it gave it a richness I have never seen from lamb. The storefront façade is so unsuspecting. You would not know that such a gem of a restaurant would be tucked away inside. Try it!

This is a good place if you know what you want to eat as Menu is very simple piece of paper with no pictures. You have to depend on Unilocal pictures… I posted 2 pictures.

Houston has such an amazing variety of ethnic food. This Bosnian restaurant is a great example of delicious authentic food and great customer service. Came on a Saturday night and surprisingly, we didn’t even have to wait to be seated. Winning! The restaurant was also way more spacious than I thought which was great. We started off with an appetizer that was a dip. I can’t remember the name but it was hummus mixed with tomato sauce and some other things, served with their famous pita bread. It was pretty good. My BF ordered the Pirjan for his entrée which was lamb shank. He didn’t think it was amazing but still enjoyed it. The lamb was sooo moist and tender. It literally melted in my mouth and I barely had to chew. The portion size was also very generous for the price. I ordered the Hadzijski Cevap which was amazing. Seriously so delicious! It was cevapi, beef kebab and veggies, sauteed in a light creamy tomato sauce. I looked at pics prior to ordering and I’m so glad I did. Their service was spot on for our first time there and the staff was very attentive. They were quick to fill up empty water glasses and make sure we were satisfied. I would love to try some more items on their menu when I return to Houston!

Café pita plus is off Bosnian origin and is one of the best Bosnian cuisines available in Houston, and for that matter TEXAS. I’ve always had a very good experience at café pita. Staff is always very attentive and friendly and services fast. I always order the cevap sandwich which is sausage Style meat patties inside pita bread. That is there top selling item. Also another item that i order is the stuffed mushroom burger which they call stuffed pljeskavics sandwich. It is an amazing monster size burger for the true burger lovers. Some of my suggestions are the cevap sandwich and the stuffed burger, the gyro platter. Also their hummus and avjar dip is pretty tasty too. They also have coupons available on restaurant dot com. I have heard the waitress mention BYOB so that is also an option. Enjoy the cuisine

I came here a couple of times about 6 yrs ago, and hadn’t been back since. I was long overdue, but just really been too busy trying other restaurants around town. I sat in the table underneath the Guy Fieri sign and it was pretty dead for a weeknight. We settled on the fried cheese appetizer, pirjan(lamb shank) and the hadzijski cevap. Fried cheese — came out in 3 minutes, no joke, guess they microwave heated it for us, pretty good, better when dipped in the ajvar(red pepper sauce). 4⁄5 Lamb shank — very tender, falling off the bone as any lamb shank should be, comes with a lot of rice and potatoes on a huge plate. Didn’t see the fresh veggies it’s supposed to come with. 3⁄5 Hadzijski cevap — comes on a small plate, dish is within an aluminum tray which is even smaller. It’s a creamy tomato based sauce that contains two of their most popular meats, the cevap(link sausage-looking ground beef) and the beef kebab(tender beef, similar to pot roast). The sauce is similar to tomato cream sauce you see in some italian restaurants. Has a great flavor if you enjoy creamy broths, especially when you bite into the mixed grilled veggies on the plate. I liked the beef kebab over the cevap, but they give you less of it. 4⁄5 Service was not the best, since the 2 waitresses were so bored from no customers they weren’t always available when we needed them. They never offered to refill either of our drinks, even though we finished them half way through our meal. Prices are reasonable, which is one of their better qualities.

Live in Houston? Visiting Houston? You HAVE to come to Café Pita! This is my favorite restaurant in Houston. If you have not tried Bosnian food you are missing out. Café Pita was featured on Guy Fieri’s show«Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.» I’ve been so many times and the food never disappoints! What to try: Appetizers: the Meza, fried cheese, and eggplant dip are all delicious. Entrees: The Stuffed Pljeskavice is AMAZING. It is a ground beef patty stuffed with mushrooms, mozzarella, and red peppers. I think it is my favorite item on the menu. I can’t decide because of the other items. Sarma: cabbage leaves stuffed with ground beef and rice. So freaking good. I think it is my favor item on the menu. Cevap Sandwich: the first item I ever tried and my first love. A sandwich served on the famous lepinja bread with ground beef in sausage link style. Very delicious. I think this is my favorite item on the menu. If you go with a small group(3 – 4 ppl) try the platter. The platter allows you to try the stuffed Pljeskavice and the sausage links. Just order the sarma on the side as an appetizer. Pretty much I love Café Pita…

Man this place disappointed me the second time around. This will be the last time I trust Guy Fieri. The building is old, tables small, AC runs poorly, and the service is slow which makes the experience no bueno. As an aside, my pita came out burnt… heavily.

A truly authentic spot! The décor says it all! The prices are very reasonable and the food is excellent. The chicken is juicy and flavorful. I’ve only been here once and usually do not review until I have visited a few times but this experience deserves a review. The restaurant is located in one of the million shopping strips on Westheimer immediately west of the beltway. The staff is friendly and very attentive. A fellow Unilocaler and I visited for lunch and we were not disappointed. I will be back!

We came back 2 hours before it closed and they ran out of hummus! :(Their hummus is always so fresh and tasty! The waitress said they buy the hummus at a different place, but make add their seasonings in house. We ended up having the cucumber dip, which didn’t look too appetizing. It was splatter on a plate. I’m not sure if our piZza came out so burnt at the bottom because we came in with one or their deals where you sign up to get their emails… anyhow, pizza toppings was delicious. The chicken surprisingly wasn’t dry — made perfectly. We ordered the margarita and meat lovers pizza. Both very tasty! Unfortunately we waited longer than expected for two pizzas to come out. I think they forgot about our order and had to ask if the pizza was done. Probably the reason why it was burnt! Well, it’s still a good place, will try to avoid coming near closing time! *****Sign up for their emails and buy an entrée and get one free****

Bosnian pizza –it’s like pizza with thinly sliced sausage(pepperoni) and mushrooms, possibly longer cuts of bacon cooked in… Fried cheese –we ordered this Togo but live 5 minutes away, I can hear the cheese squeak against my teeth, not sure if it’s suppose to be cheesy like mozzarella or. If the squeaking is normal. The tomato sauce that comes with it is pretty darn good though, the fried cheese is battered with a hint of jalapeño flavor. Beef kabob –this portion looked small for $ 9.99, my man really liked it. It comes with this red sauce, highly advised to mix it with your rice for more flavor and spice Bosnian soup –it’s like bean soup! Not bad, but I felt like the fluid and bean ratio was off, too much liquid. THEBREADISAMAZING! So soft inside! Indoor, flake flowers on the table for the soft elegant feel? When you come in, there was only two people there, so you might be waiting at the front for a little bit until they see you. If you are waiting for your Togo order don’t expect for them to offer any water while waiting… Orders are usually ready in 15 min! Enjoy!
