We just moved to this area, and this place is going to be a regular spot. I walked there this morin and left with a bag of fresh treats for less than $ 4. Fresh. Local. Amazing.

Best Mexican Pastries in Town. Try the«empanadas» and«orejas» you won’t be disappointed.

The best bakery in Houston. Authentic Mexican/French bread. Reasonably priced! Way better than Bolillo’s Bakery!

The selection here was amazing. They had breads and pastries here that I had never seen before. Unfortunately, the quality falls a little short of the eye-pleasing variety. The breakfast tacos were OK, and the pastries were pretty good. Overall it was very cheap. One odd note: there were a dozen passive-aggressive signs posted in Spanish all over the place, which made me wish my Spanish was a little better! If I lived in the neighborhood, I would definitely visit again, but, in my opinion, it’s not worth a special trip out here.

For those who wish to diverge outside of their comfort zone and who also enjoy Mexican pastries then look no further than the Central Bakery. Now I’m not sure why it’s called the Central Bakery, as it seems as tangentially located from downtown or anywhere else in city… Ok so don’t let the looks of this place fool you. Yea its old, beat up and the pastries are displayed in in what appears to be a Plexiglases and plywood wardrobe lined with vinyl stick on tiles. However the pastries are nothing short of sugary, cinnamon, buttery goodness. To me Mexican pastries always look delicious, glistening with sugar granules and dyed funky colors, but alas I have been deceived many times. Most Mexican pastries look better than they taste, but the Central Bakery doesn’t fall short. It is hard to go wrong with anything you get here as it is all good, but do keep in mind that although these delights look diverse they often taste similar to one another. None the less, it is worth giving it a shot. A few notes: Bring Cash Polish up your Espanol if you are not fluent like me Go to the front grab a tray and some tongs and load up By the way this place is the only one I have found in Houston that sells Churros like they sell on the streets of New York. You may have enjoyed a bastardized version of a churro on you last visit to six flags or Sea World. The Central also serves up some breakfast grub, haven’t got a chance to try it, but I’m sure like most taquerias on the east side, it’s tasty. So go east and have an adventure(that’s right inner loop Unilocalers, leave Montorse or the Heights).
