I found this wandering around the Houston City Hall urban harvest farmer’s market on wednesday in search for lunch. They were serving banh mi, which I love. Walking around the farmer’s market, they probably had the best prices around for lunch, so I had to give it a try. I ordered their braised pork belly banh mi, and it was great! It was $ 7 for the sandwich($ 6 for other meats), which was relatively cheap compared to the other stalls around. They also sold mint hibiscus tea, which I didn’t try(though it sounded really refreshing!). Based off their banh mi, though, Simply delicious lives up to its name. The toasted baguette was warm, crispy, and filling. They gave generous servings of fresh banh-mi vegetables, which gave it great flavor. The winner though would have to be the pork belly. Moist and tender topped off with delicious melting pork fat. The pork fat had been rendered to the point where it was slightly chewy, but not tough. It worked REALLY well. Nothing fancy — just simple ingredients put together in a delicious banh mi sandwich. If you’re hungering for banh-mi downtown, definitely try this place out at the farmer’s market!
