Closed now, and no longer roaming the streets. Sad day.

At first I wished they had offered more things on their menu and didn’t think they would be serving just fries… but now that I think about their fries. I want more of it. The lemon habanero mayo was really good. The sauce is heavy on top so maybe getting it on the side isn’t such a bad idea– either way my husband and I ate everything in that cone.

This place offers fries, fried twinkies, and fried oreos. Although the thick cut fries weren’t anything special, the honey chipotle sauce added a nice kick to them. Sweet and a bit spicy, but not overwhelming. The fries were decent, not greasy or soggy, and they offer a few seasonings as well as dipping choices including sea salt, garlic salt, garlic rosemary dip, and curry mayo. What I loved about this place was the fried oreos: Deep fried and coated with powdered sugar. Your mouth bursts with that oh so yummy sweetness that leaves you cross-eyed. It was like an oreo wrapped in a funnel cake and tasted like a krispy kreme donut and a beignet. 4 stars for the fried oreos.

If you’re looking for fries with a variation of dipping sauces, Cut and Fry is the place to go. Reasonably cheap, these fries will fill you up. You get a selection of different sauces to go with these guys as well. Fries were not soggy, undercooked or greasy. The honey chipotle sauce gives the fries a nice kick. The truck also offers some really delicious desserts such as Fried Twinkies, Fried Oreos and Fried Churros. The Fried Oreos had a decadent taste. I will definitely be back again!

I love a side of fries just as much as the next America, but as a SIDE. Not as an entrée. When I saw Cut and Fry I thought oh so another American type food truck served all kinds of fried goodness… Nope! Just fries. Don’t get me wrong they are decent fries, but you need variety to keep the people coming back. I had the pleasure of experiencing cut and fry at a local art show at the museum of contemporary arts. First off there parking had much to be desired. They planted their truck in the middle of a small walkway, thus forcing potential customers crushed up against the wall, this caused a very confusing ordering/waiting/exiting line(especially since it takes a bit to get your food) So the concept is pick a fry, either sweet potato or regular. Add a seasoning. Add a sauce. On this night I opted for sweet potato fries, with lemon pepper, and honey chipotle mayo. The fries themselves are good, the seasoning available did not really compliment the sauces that were available and could barely be tasted underneath the sauce, so it makes it basically a mute point. The sauce on top was tasty. Also this meal will set you back 5 bucks for a cone of fries.

I probably eat french fries three times a year, so they better be damn good; especially if you charge almost $ 5 for fries!!! I was skeptical but ten minutes after ordering these freshly made fries, I was very happy with my decadent snack. I went all European and got the habanero mayo which made me shout«très bon». If you want to cheat on your diet and have a craving for fries… find this truck and get some of their awesome tators.

Very very simple idea and menu. Chose either regular fries or sweet potato fries, you choose your seasoning, then choose your dressing. I got the sweet potato fries, with lemon spice seasoning, and chipotle mayo dressing. The combo was really good, couldn’t really taste the seasoning, and they pour the dressing right on top. It was $ 5. For as simple as it is it seems just a tad overpriced. There are other food trucks that have a better variety and more mini gourmet food for the same amount that is really tasty. But since this is about fries apparently, they do provide good fries. But maybe they can add other things that they«cut» and also«fry» that aren’t necessarily french fries(that’s not dessert) to branch out a little so it’s not so narrow. But props on the fries, I love fries!

I have to say that these were the best curry fries I’ve had outside of Germany — all that was missing was the wurst. Perfectly crisped, with the perfect amount of spicy bite in the sauce. The portion was generous and the price was right. The other options looked delectable! I can’t wait to try more and, if they’re as good as these were, this will easily be a 5-star rating!

This is a great new effort! The fries are really fantastic on their own, and the different sauces and salts that accompany them are inventive and fun. I had the sweet potato fries with saffron salt and habanero mayo. I agree with the other reviews that the mayo was a bit overwhelming. I just wish it had been served on the side so I didn’t have to eat ALL of it to enjoy the delicious fries underneath. The habanero mayo was fairly spicy, not overwhelming, but certainly noticeable. One of my compadres had the regular fries with garlic salt and rosemary mayo. Very tasty. My other eating companion consumed his cone before I had a chance to taste. I think that speaks for itself. A crowning achievement came in the form of 4 fried oreos at the end of the meal. Really, really good. Very hot, but not at all greasy. Dusted with powdered sugar. I’m glad I’m going to the gym tomorrow. The people who run the truck are super fun and friendly. Make sure to get the high-five when you get your order of fries. I will seek this out again.

Attending Haute Wheels Houston, this was definitely one of the trucks I wanted to try. I’ve always loved the taste of my fries dipped in a bit of mayo rather than ketchup and here I could do it without any looks of disgust from my companions! So, the fries? Nice thick, almost like steak-cut, fries. I was trying to decide between the habanero mayo and the spicy. Habanero’s are hot, really hot, so I told myself it would be best to get the downgraded version with the spicy. Well, OUCH! It was a nice mayo flavor followed by a little burn. I won’t comment too much on the wait as my experience was much different than most would be. It was long… really long, but I find it hard to blame the people running this truck. They kept smiling through it all and were as friendly as could be. They told us to come back in an hour for our fries… we came back 50 minutes later, waited 5 minutes and they were there. No biggie.

The concept of the Cut and Fry truck – Belgian fries with specialty sauces – really called out to me. I liked Pommes Frites, a Belgian fries shop located in NYC’s East Village, as it had dozens of sauces(and I mean dozens) and poutine, the latter of which made me think of going snowboarding with my cousins in Canada. I visited Pommes Frites a few times with my cute, drums-playing, earning-a-Ph.D.-at-Princeton friend. I couldn’t bring myself to trust him, though, but we’re still friends. I think. Though Cut and Fry lacked a tall, smart, creative, and sweetly enamored man, I still felt a little giddy as I drove up to The Boneyard, which is a bar/dog park. I don’t have a particular predilection for fries, but fries and sauces often make for winning combinations. The gal and guys were still putting up the sign when I drove up at 5:30pm. The menu stated that fries were $ 3.50 for regular, $ 5 for large; sweet potato fries were $ 1 extra. You get one seasoning and one sauce on the fries; additional sauces are $ 0.50. Seasonings included Old Bay, lemon pepper, garlic salt, sea salt, Cajun seasoning, and truffle oil($ 1 extra). Sauces included lemon habanero mayo, spicy mayo, rosemary garlic mayo, horseradish mayo, buffalo ranch, curry ketchup, and HOT banana ketchup. In the interest of a more useful review, I got a regular cone of sweet potato with lemon pepper and a regular cone of regular fries with garlic salt, as well as garlic rosemary mayo and lemon habanero mayo sauces. My fries took about five minutes, and the guy manning the counter was very friendly and chatty. Likewise, the gal was very friendly, telling me to sit on the stool while I waited, and helping me take my cones of fries, foil-wrapped sauces, and napkins to my car. My need to get an FTR meant that I was getting fries before work, as in, this was my dinner.(Pop quiz: FTR or upset stomach? FTR every time.) Thus, I had to eat these fries as I drove to work. I figured out a nice system. I unpeeled the foil halfway on the sauces and stuck them in the cupholders. At first, I held the two cones in between my thighs, but, of course, it was really warm. Then, I transferred the cones to my left hand, clutching the two like a wedding bouquet with my index finger and thumb, thus allowing me to maneuver the steering wheel with my left hand while dipping the fries into the sauces with my right hand. Speaking of wedding bouquets, after my cousin exchanged vows in her wedding ceremony, the other bridesmaids were tearing up. I pulled some tissue out of my chest(my chest is of modest proportions, but the other bridesmaids were Asians, so my chest was comparatively larger, and thus had enough space between the two assets to act as a tissue box; hmm, I sense a new nickname: Anna«Tissue Box» W.). Another one’s hair was coming undone, so I pulled some bobby pins out of my chest. The other bridesmaids laughed, and asked for more tissue as they cried, but agreed I had good foresight. Never let it be said that I’m not resourceful. The logistics of it all managed, and overheated thighs(insert – haha – inappropriate joke here) no longer a distraction, I got to the business of eating my fries(and getting to work). The sweet potato fries were thinner and the cross-section is more rectangular in shape. They were good and mildly sweet, as sweet potato fries tend to be. I get a little irritated with a lot of places that claim to have Belgian fries, as their fries tend to be too thin to be Belgian fries, but the regular fries at Cut and Fry – which were a little starchy, but not too much so – were thick(well, borderline thick enough to be Belgian fries), yet still managed to have a moderate layer of crispness. Salt is always a necessity with fries, as they’re flavorless on their own, and there was just enough garlic salt on the fries. The lemon pepper wasn’t particularly apparent with the sweet potato fries. I’m ambivalent when it comes to the sauces. You could really get the kick from the lemon habanero mayo in the moments after, and I normally love rosemary garlic, but there was something reminiscent of Hellmann’s to the mayo. I think the contrast of the citrus in the lemon habanero brought it out more, and, at times, it felt as though rosemary garlic was fighting that heavy cloying Hellmann’s taste. Cut and Fry gets 3.5 stars, but I’m trying to get rid of my rounding-up-for-food-trucks tendency, despite the friendliness of the people running it. It would get a real solid 4 stars if the mayo base was less cloying. Four stars if you have a hard-core fries craving, but fries don’t serve as a meal, unless you’re trying to get an FTR. I just got an upset stomach after eating part of both cones. Fries and mayo will do that to you.
