Chocolate Wasted Ice Cream

Awesome. Very friendly. Delicious. Fresh. Never the same batch. They also have a ice cream truck that pops on events or food truck park. My favorite ice cream is Mediterranean Rice pudding. You have to try the Churro donut with ice cream. If that’s too much then try the cookie ice cream.

Showed up in the middle of the day (240p) and this place is just randomly closed, despite having supposed to be open from 11am to midnight. The guys standing out front said the owners «just do this– come and go, come and go.» Very frustrating for a pregnant lady who went out of her way to get ice cream, and super unprofessional.

I love the lavender blueberry it has just the right amount of lavender so as to enhance rather than overwhelm the blueberries. They have vegan ices and ice «cream» as well and they make custom ice cream sandwiches where you start by picking the cookies or split donut. The select your creams, and extras if needed. They also have vegan ices

Does anyone know the real hours? Showed up on Sunday at 1230 to an open sign, deadbolted door, and no lights. 2 very disappointed kids. No hours were posted on the door. If anyone knows, please update here.

I gave them five stars, even though I hate this place. I mean really, the nerve! Putting a place that serves super delicious home made ice cream in right next to the place where I work, what were they thinking? I’m powerless to resist the Banana Nut donut sandwich, and the Chocolate Wasted is somewhere between heroin and crack on the scale of addictive substances. They’re turning me into an ice cream junkie, and even though I’ve tried to hide it my friends and family are starting to notice the extra weight. Sigh. I’ll probably head over there in a minute to drown my sorrows in a double scoop of mint chocolate chip…

I live on the east side of downtown, and have always wanted an ice cream shop in the neighborhood, so I was thrilled to drive by and see chocolate wasted had opened up. My girlfriend and I both had a scoop of the Mediterranean Rice Puddling, and it was amazing! I loved the homemade, light texture of all of their ice creams I tried, as well as the unique and original flavors. The owner Julian was super cool and inviting, and I loved all of the original art on the walls. I definitely can’t wait to go back, the Horchata flavor is next on my list.

Great little spot. Got the chocolate wasted ice cream and a scoop of the Mediterranean which had pistachios on a chocolate dipped palmier. Delicious. My daughter had their blueberry and loved it. The man there (not sure if he’s the owner but possibly) gave us an apple pie float that was very refreshing.

This place is so awesome… The owner was so nice and patient, he literally let us try every flavor. We settled for two scoops one of Horchata (rice water) and one of banana nut. And our other two scoops were chocolate wasted and Horchata. I think the chocolate wasted has a hint of nutella. so bomb.

One of the best ice-​cream shops in Houston! Went there on a Friday night with a friend and I’ll have to admit I was reluctant when I saw the place. But I’m glad I didn’t drive away. Although it was almost midnight the service was excellent and generous samples, too. I got double scoop of banana nut and chocolate wasted, which I loved. My friend got the horchata and apple pie which are great too. I’ll definitely be back to try one of their ice-​cream sandwiches.

Best Root Beer float ever ! Love this place, everyone who works there is so nice. Vegan ice cream is really good… and I’m not even vegan!

I took my wife, daughter (UH student), and her boyfriend (UH student) back to Chocolate Wasted, and they fell in love with the Apple Pie ice cream, which had an entire real baked apple pie folded into it. I enjoyed the Horchata ice cream, but I’m second-​guessing myself and I probably should’ve had the Mole ice cream with real chiles in it. That was uniquely spicy. My wife remarked that she hadn’t had that quality of ice cream in years, since she used to get handmade ice cream in her hometown growing up. We are definitely coming back. Thanks Julian.

If you are still having your panties in a wad because blue bell was not at the stores then you my friend need to take your basic ass down to Chocolate wasted and try what real ice cream is about. This place has it all even a daily option for what you can make your ice cream sandwich made of, donut? yes, some super chewy cookie, fuck yes! As always sample all the options they have that day because the ice cream here is made in house not in some plant where you might get some crazy ass disease! So come on down and get you ice cream headache on!

A donut ice cream sandwich?! After seeing a photo of it on Chocolate Wasted’s Instagram, it became my solitary mission to try it. I fantasized about it for days. When my best friend asked me what my weekend plans were, I answered, «donut ice cream sandwich.» I ate a light dinner just to save room for this.
You know what happens when you want something too desperately? You can’t have it, obviously. Rookie mistake– I should’ve played it cool, dammit. They only receive 8 donuts per day from El Bolillo Bakery down the street, and they sell out early afternoon. There are some things that I can never let go of, like the time I walked past Seth Rogen at a restaurant in SF and didn’t notice. This is now one of those things.
As far as consolation prizes go, ice cream is pretty encouraging. The owner, who was so patient and generous, suggested that I pair the horchata and tamarind flavors to yield PSL (that’s pumpkin spice latte, for you non-​basics). He kept giving me more and more samples of every flavor, which would just be rude of me to refuse. I finally settled on a scoop each of the horchata and Mediterranean pistachio rice pudding, plus a sugar cookie (I WAS HURTING, OKAY?). $ 7 to nurse my broken heart.
The ice cream is really awesome, and I’d much rather get wasted off of this than tequila. The décor is the best; there’s a Pulp Fiction-​inspired mural. The location is terribly inconvenient; who visits this area of Houston, ever? The sign outside needs to SCREAM ice cream instead of whisper it. Or maybe that’s the point, to avoid drawing attention, especially when it’s dark outside? They have a truck that roams around town, but it doesn’t sell the donut ice cream sandwich.

The chocolate wasted chocolate ice cream flavor is absolutely decadent – the ice cream is so rich that I felt like I was eating a brownie. The real mint chocolate chip is great as well – by «real,» they mean it tastes like fresh-​from-​the-​garden mint, not peppermint and such.
When we drove up, we weren’t sure they were open because the storefront was so dark, so they may want to open up the windows to let people know the shop is up and running – everyone needs to try Chocolate Wasted’s ice cream!

This store is brought to you by the owners of the Chocolate Wasted Ice Cream Truck. The store front just opened this past June and is located on the East End of Downtown Houston. It is a small batch creamery that provides its customers with truly homemade recipes in unique flavors. During my visit, I tried flavors like Sweet Basil w/​Honeyed Pecans or Mole (pronounced mol-​ay), which was fantastic and had a wonderful kick. They even have Vegan options made with coconut milk. Stop by and promote this small business.

Pretty unique, flavorful and reasonably priced ice cream. The service is great and the samples seemed generous.
Will be coming back just to stare at the paintings on the wall, they are a trip!

I was thrilled to hear about the Chocolate Wasted Ice Cream Bus frequenting the East End Farmer’s Market a few months ago, but I was even more excited when I heard that Chocolate Wasted was establishing a brick-​and-​mortar within walking distance of my house. (Because walking to an ice cream shop = working out.)
The ice cream: Think handmade creamy ice cream scoops and paletas. The fruit flavors were my favorite; I had the roasted strawberry buttermilk and lemon cream ice cream on two separate visits (the strawberry paired well with the rich chocolatest chocolate). My husband enjoyed the rice pudding paleta on our first visit and opted for the vanilla ice cream on the second.
Ambience: Whimsical, relaxed. The ice cream-​related art on the walls were created by various local artists.
Customer service: Amazing! The owners are very friendly, as mentioned in the previous review, and fun to talk to.
It seems that they make certain flavors in season (for example, we sampled blueberry lavender made from locally grown blueberries back in May, and I heard tell they were going to have fig ice cream available soon). I’m looking forward to trying their other offerings soon!
