So I am not an expert in chaats or anything… but this place is amazing… the interior as mentioned is really cool. The chaat is good in my experience. Love this place

The cool interior is not what one expects when looking at this place from outside, but walk in and it is a pretty cool place with movie posters on the wall, a fairly modern looking black and white décor and an attempt to make the counter look like the food cards on chowpatty beach in Bombay. The menu is very broad and the best made items are the ones you might find in Bombay. The Bhel was a generous portion. albeit a bit to generously dressed, but had good flavor from the bits of green mango, pomegranate and crunchy onions and papdi, the wada pav which is essentially a potato fritter in a bun was quite good with the bread being soft, yet with a slight chew which adds to the eating experience. Dosas’s were not the greatest, but serviceable. Overall, worth a visit, if nothing else to eat some typical bombay food in a great kitschy setting!

Do it! We were pleasantly surprised! Food was really good, especially the chat. Pretty cool Bollywood themed atmosphere to remind you of all the classics. Usually feel underwhelmed after visiting some of the Houston little india spots, but this place hits the mark.

There was 6 of us out for lunch and we ordered around 8 items. All the items were amazing! I felt the concept was dead on with the whole Bollywood feel. The food is authentic and portions are plenty. The service and food delivery is fast.

Been there about three times. For some reason I believe they are adding MSG or something. We come back with not so good feeling. Some of the items are good. However, overall average food. I will try it one more time before I give up. I like the concept, like the ambience. Love their spicy soda.

Samosa chat and pani puri were both awesome! I love samosa chat and this dish didn’t disappoint. Great mix of flavors and portion! Will definitely go back.

The hands down best place to get Indian food in the Hillcroft area. Even if I’m not in Hillcroft and I let my hungry mind wander and start thinking about the punjab E thali, I almost always find myself driving down 59 and ending up here. Mind you I haven’t tried everything on the menu, but my two favorite go-to items are the punjab E thali(which i can never finish myself) and the dahi puri. If you get the thali, don’t order dessert, as it comes with a whole cup of yummy, sweet yogurt stuff. My first time trying dahi puri was here… it is like an explosion of flavor in your mouth! As a side note, this is NOT the place I would go for a good masala dosa, but honestly that doesn’t take much away from the place. The theme of the place is most definitely movies. The walls are decked with Hindi movie posters, ranging from really old classics to newer ones that are more familiar to me. Every time I bring my dad here, he tells me a story about the time he watched this classic or that one… seems to bring him a sense of nostalgia. I like that about the place. The workers and manager have always been polite. Whenever I don’t know what something is, they never hesitate/are annoyed in explaining the items on the menu to me or making recommendations. So next time you find yourself hungry while shopping in Hillcroft you know where to go.

This place welcomes you with a nice and trendy décor, bollywood posters all over the walls. But the greatest thing about this place is the food. We have tried different types of dishes and were always delighted. We like Chana bhatora, uttapam and pav bhaji. Probably the thing we like best is mango lassi, it is creamy, sweet and has the sensuous aroma of mango that we are really fond of. This restaurant is way better than the other chat places in the neighborhood.

Excellent experience. Chowpatty is another jewel in the crown of the Hillcroft Asian food corridor. My wife and I went to Chowpatty a couple of weeks ago, and really enjoyed the food. We ordered a chat platter, which featured four varieties of chat. We also ordered a masala dosa, which was easily the size of my forearm(and much better tasting!). And then, in the spirit of over-ordering so that we could sample the menu and have leftovers, we also ordered one of the thalis, which featured about a half-dozen delicious dishes. The owner was very pleasant and helpful when we placed our order, and then came out to the table to talk with us for a while to tell us about our food. We spent about 5 minutes with him, and really enjoyed his company. Oh, and I also ordered a mango lassi, which was thick and creamy, just like I like it. One item for potential improvement: the rice was good, but not amazing(rice is not the focus here… this is Bombay street food). I definitely plan to return.

Came here on a Monday night around 7:30 — 8:00 ish. It was a little quiet but Indian songs from the 80s playing on a tiny t. v mounted on the wall kept us occupied. The food here is basically Indian street food. You generally find most of these items sold by street vendors in Bombay(Mumbai). Lets start with food. Holly Spiciness !!! When it comes to taste the food is pretty authentic which means they don’t comprise on taste and flavors. so don’t expect it to be the water down version of Indian food. My friend and I ordered the Punjabi thali and onion chili uthapam and decided to share as we were that hungry. The guy behind the counter was pretty helpful and explained what the menu items were in detail… so thank you ! The punjabi thali was alright, didn’t care much about the spinach or the eggplant masala. The daal and chickpeas weren’t too bad though. The thali came with bread, dessert and buttermilk too. The buttermilk was WAY too sweet. it was like Ben & Jerrys topped with chocolate syrup topped with cupcakes, topped with an entire wedding cake SWEET! The onion uthapam came with two dipping sauces, coconut and peanut I believe. The uthapam tasted like a savory pancake with onions. Couldn’t finish it as it was oozing with grease and wasn’t very appetizing. The sauces weren’t too bad. I actually really liked the peanut sauce, it tasted like peanut butter added with sriracha sauce. The best part was the complimentary samabar, it was DELICIOUS! I would go back there just to try their sambar again and even pay for it. Will definitely go back and try other things on their menu.

I love this chat place. I would say this is hands down the best chat place in Houston., a lot of places tend to dump tons of red chilly powder in their chats but this place knows the right amount! Service is quick and prices are acceptable! I would stay away from the«real food» here though… I tried the chole bature twice and found the puri to be somewhat hard… pav bhaji is good… Also, I didn’t like the mango lasso here. it was too dense for my taste. and had lots of sugar. All in all, a fantastic place for chat. but maybe go to Balaji bhavan next door for other stuff ;)

I ordered the dabeli. Liked it. Of course, I love this kind of snack/desi stuff. The pav bhaji was good too. I liked the kaala khatta soda the best though.

Clean Bollywood are the two words that come to mind first when I think Chowpatty. With the black and white modern furniture, Bollywood posters and random Bollywood movies playing this place is UNIQUE. Too add to the mix the food is on point and from what I’ve been told pretty darn good in comparison to India. I like the Punjabi Thali but it is on the heavier end so expect to be KO’d when you’re done. If you want a lighter platter get the Gujrati Thali. The nan here is good but definitely not the best. A few things I had here which were super unique was the the Raj Kachori, to those who don’t know this is a cold dish with a bit of a sweet/tangy flavor. Very interesting dish and I am glad I tried it because the presentation looks really cool.

With this place, it’s important to understand what to order. It’s not a south indian restaurant so do not think you will get a good dosa. The bhaturas are probably going to be a little oily. it is not a fine dining experience so the food will be hearty and the ambience is like a regular café. It is primarily a gujrati food place so order the puri undhiyu, shrikhand, vada pav, pav bhaaji, chaats and lassis. I’ve had all of the above and keep going back for the same. It is light on your wallet and the food is very tasty and very indian in terms of spice and flavors.

Punjabi Thali — This was pretty good. 2 Parathas(triangular ones. similar to frozen deep paratha, but he said its home made). Rice. Saag/Paalak …not good taste. Paneer Tikka Masala… decent. Malai Koft… good. Chhole… decent. Papad. Samosa. Sweet Lassi. Gulab Jamun… all for 10 $. Must try at this place. They also have a Gujarati Thali. Pav Bhaji — Decent. Chhole Bhature — Decent. The Bhature are too thick i think.

This was the best Indian place we tried during our Houston trip this time. Beautiful décor, loved the vibrant colorful Bollywood posters from 60s to 2000s. The cutlery and lighting were also good. Everything we tried was awesome. The Raj Kachori was Devine. Bhaji dosa was just like the streets of Mumbai. Chole bhature was also great. Chutneys were so good. Wish I had more appetite. This place also sold Bombay style pav. I was doubtful but when I came home and heated them, they were very much like Bombay pav with the crispy top and soft bottom. Will definitely come to this place! Please vote if you find this review helpful

Playful Bollywood take on chaat joint. Well designed interior, good menu selection with few contemporary items that appears exciting. My experience here has been carry outs and yet to dine in. But food has been tasteful and hearty. Customer service is courteous and fairly prompt. Restaurants should offer ambiance, good food and experience and this joint appears to finding a good balance of all of them.

This is my second visit to this place. The samosa chat was spicy and yummy! Chole Batura was okay and the Raj Kachori never disappoints.
