Chilaquiles and Sope De Cangrejo were AMAZING! Best Chilaquiles I’ve ever had. Tres Leches was heavenly! Restaurant is now closed for business!

I went here during restaurant week and had their prefix menu. The ceviche, service, and drinks were all great! I loved the atmosphere and feel of the restaurant. Almost as if you’re dining at your home.

I recently moved to Houston from Austin and was looking for a new brunch spot that serves alcohol and caters to late risers like me(they serve brunch until 3pm). After my experience at Concepcion, my search will continue. First I will say that the restaurant itself is beautiful. Old mansion-type home with a large garden/patio out back. The inside is decorated with a contemporary style that creates a nice atmosphere. Brunch items don’t go above $ 12. Now for the cons. The whole operation seems amateurish. The trouble started before I even arrived at the restaurant. Reservations are required, but I called 5 – 6 times and no one ever answered the phone. They expect everyone to reserve using Open Table, but I never would’ve known that if I hadn’t seen it here on Unilocal. When we arrived, the place was severely understaffed; there were 2 guys scrambling around to serve 8 – 10 tables, no host, no busboys, no bartender. The bar area was a mess and looked like a makeshift storage area. It’s a good thing we ordered a full carafe of mimosas, otherwise I would’ve been a lot more annoyed by the slow service. When our food finally came out, my eggs benedict was hardly edible. The English muffin was not toasted and tasted stale, the tomato was limp and soggy, the egg was overcooked, hollandaise sauce was lacking, and there was no bacon on it as the menu promised. Overall very bland, and no sides came with it to offer as a distraction. I didn’t finish my meal and left hungry. Edit: I heard that their chef recently jumped ship. This could be the reason for their food quality, but I won’t be back anytime soon.

Horrible service! It was NOT A BUSYMORNING during our brunch — there were 3 wait staff; only 7 tables including ours were occupied; it took 35 min for someone to take our orders(after I waved at the waiter to get his attention), another 20 min to get our drinks(which means we were sitting there for 55 min when we finally get our drinks); the food came 15~20 min after the drinks(luckily they tasted good); it took us another 20 min to get/pay our bill after the meal. We don’t cook, we eat out; from hole-in-the-wall to 5-stars, this is the WORST experience ever. People think they can open a restaurant b/c they know a good cook/chef — NO! Unless you know how to manage capable & friendly staff in the dinning area, please spare customers paying you to be miserable. I read Unilocal reviews for years, I am so upset Concepcion ruined a beautiful Sunday, I created a member account to write my first review.

Started w/ceviche — it was great– scallops were very good– then the shrimp were just ok… Very good drinks– good service and pretty place.

This place has potential, but it’s in need of a lot of work. The food was mixed – some of us liked our food(the gazpacho was great), others, not so much. The real problem was service. Our waiter seemed relatively clueless – couldn’t quite remember the specials, couldn’t quite remember to check in on us, etc. And the timing – I realize that they send food out when it’s ready, but drinks… I actually had to cancel one drink order because, well, it never came. It has the feel of a place that is still getting its bearings, but with so many other good choices around, it better happen sooner than later. They also need a better website – it’s awful.

Pros: situated in a really cute house, big patio space outdoor for those good weather days, food portion pretty good, waitstaff nice. They offered a lot of nice juices for their mamosa, such as mango, pineapple, guava, oj. Cons: This is based on brunch only, the food was mediocre and pricey, the décor was nice and clean but I felt like it was missing something. Overall, I would probably return to give it another try, maybe for dinner or a happy hour in their outdoor patio.

Great. Just great. We went here the other night and enjoyed foods from the Restauants Weeks menu and from the main menu. Chicken and Mole. Mmm. Also the«Jar Bar» dessert. Tasty and different. Tres leches superb too. The outdoor seating area looks cool. Maybe next time when it is cooler. This restaurant was formerly known as Oceans.

I enjoyed this place! I came here with two other girls for a dinner out one night. The cocktails I had were excellent — the florjito was a sweet fizzy berry twist on a mojito, and the margarita I had(can’t remember the name) was VERY strong, just how I like it! The food is more tapas-style though some of the dishes could double as entrees. We ordered the ceviche(amazing), the canejo de sopa(also amazing), and a final dish that I don’t remember the name of, but it was also quite good! So the food selection is a solid 5 stars. The service was also good, we had a small issue with one of the dishes we initially ordered(mole enchiladas, on the recommendation of the waitress) but they weren’t able to get it due to an issue with ingredients. So we went with something else — unfortunately, this created about a 30 – 45 minute wait we wouldn’t have otherwise had. Still, good drunken times were had so we really didn’t mind too much! The only complaint I have about the place is the place itself. It’s a stunning venue, with a beautiful patio. However, the interior is entirely wood and the echoes and resulting noise are unbearable. The place wasn’t half full and I still had trouble hearing my dinner partners, less than 2 feet away from me. Secondly, the A/C was CRANKED. Granted I get cold easily but I was almost ill from shivering so hard. I don’t think I’ve ever given this as a tip for a restaurant before, but: Shorts are NOT recommended.

Brunch on the back patio is highly recommended. Oh, delicious and coma-inducing Meso-American brunch, incuding sikil pak, a refreshing ceviche and guava mimosas, you will be had again.

Concepcion has one of the best decks in Houston. With the new chef in place they are hitting it out of the park.
