Consulate General of Japan at Houston

People say that I need to update my reviews more. In this case, the Consulate General of Japan at Houston is –exactly– the same as the review I wrote 6 years ago. Excellent and professional.
When you are allowed inside by security you are then legally in Japan. Recent visit was pleasant and fun.
If you have a way of scheduling your appointment for a Saturday then the downtown Houston traffic isn’t that bad and the parking here at 2 Houston Center is free. You just have to ask them to validate your parking ticket and security will let you out of the garage for free.

I’ve been here a few times with the wife (Japanese) and it’s always a breeze. In fact, there is rarely another person seeking assistance in the Consulate. Anyway, park in the building’s enormous parking garage and navigate yourself to the main building. Make sure you go to the right elevators as certain elevators go to certain floors e.g., 1 – 10, 11 – 20, 21 – 30 (these aren’t accurate — just examples). Once you get to the 30^th floor, finding the consulate is easy, just turn right. You are required to go through the metal detector and yes the guard is armed. The office is very utilitarian but there is a nice sofa in case you have to wait. Like I mentioned, there’s very rarely another «customer» so service is very prompt — as if you’d expect anything less from the Japanese.
