The food is great, portions are huge, but the pricing is never consistent. I always order the grilled chicken with rice, corn, and green beans and depending on who’s working I either pay $ 8 or $ 10

This place reminds me of lubys where u pick your own meat, side dishes and a drink. The food was not bad but some of the meats are kind of dry. Maybe I went after lunch hour, but I think they should keep their food more fresh

The refurbishment of the Park food court has greatly improved the experience. I’ve always enjoyed Simon’s for good, home-style comfort food and a nice selection of veggies. BUT — something has gone terribly wrong in past weeks! It is like they had in incompetent chef there all of a sudden. The meatloaf was flavorless and undercooked — I mean WAY undercooked. I thought it was a fluke, so I came back the next week and got the Chipolte Chicken which is usually very tasty — but it was awful — with what looked like recycled chicken thrown on top. The Simon’s at Allen center is still okay — but the one at the Park has a problem!

Located in the food court area of Houston Center sits this awesome place where you can get a nice, quick TASTY meal for $ 5.00. Yes, five bucks gets you your choice of an entrée and if you want to add a veggie, or side, add another dollar. The food is very tasty and I’ll be back for sure! I was skeptical because of the price — now I’m a fan! The Blackened Chicken with cream sauce over bowtie pasta was awesome! The chicken was nicely spiced and the sauce was creamy. One warning: Homestyle means they used butter and all kinds of other tasty things :) On a diet? stick to the salmon or other light dishes and get the veggies. Also, if you have an allergy to nuts, don’t get the bowtie pasta — it appears to have slivered almonds in it. But it added a little dimension to the pasta, so that helps.

This is a great place to go if you’re in the Park Shops and have $ 5 to your name. They have a chicken/fish/meat(mystery meat?) option with rice or pasta and bread for $ 5(including tax). Line moves super quick. If you want to add a side(mac and cheese, okra, corn, beans etc) it’s $ 7 total.

I walk over to the Shops at Houston Center for the mecca of food, Potbelly acoustic performances, Hallmark cheesiness, and accessibility to banks. Oh, and sometimes also because the boyfriend works close to there and sometimes he makes time to have lunch with me. Nestled among the the first floor far corner of restaurants is Simon’s Homestyle Café. You choose your entrée(they have baked or chargrilled salmon/chicken, etc) and some sides. A warning for the lactose intolerant– homestyle means butter! But the food is pretty decent, the baked salmon was melty enough, the fried okra took me back to my college days when I used to eat it covered in ranch or gravy. The broccoli is the boiled-until-soft kind. It definitely fills you up. Skip the mac-and-cheese, on the bf’s suggestion. The lactose intolerant did not dare a taste. I came here for the cornbread(said with a southern drawl), but they had run out by the time I got there. Boo. We had a taste showdown because bf got his lunch from the Mediterranean place in the same food court(not Droubi’s, the other one). We did the Pepsi challenge with the broccoli, rice, and salmon, and I think the Mediterranean place won on everything. Except their salmon was a little too much on the«charred» side of the chargrilled. So, if you are getting fried okra, it’s a yes. Most of the other things on the menu are average.(And if you’re hunting for cornbread, like I did after this place ran out of it, Au Bön Pain has amazing southwestern cornbread!!!)
