We were taking my daughter to the Aquarium downtown to ride the ferris wheel and see the sharks and had full intent to eat there too. We rode the rides but found out there was an hour wait, so we started wandering around looking for another option. We walked up to the Moonshiners and it seemed appropriate for a family of 3 including a 6 year old. It wasnt loud, but enough noise to cover up my daughters normal loud voice. I ordered the Brisket Nachos after seeing it on another table. It came out in about 7 – 10 minutes, much faster than expected for how busy it was. They were great! Could tell the brisket was cooked recently and the chips were hand cut and fried in house. I will get them again, but also see many other items I cant wait to try. I wish I could have given them a 4.5 though. Food was great, atmosphere was very cool. The only problem we had was we sat on the patio and had to watch panhandlers loitering just feet away from us the entire meal.

Randomly stumbled into this place and absolutely loved it! The environment was warm and welcoming! Probably why they have that«Souther Hospitality» sign up. Didn’t order food, but will definitely come back for it. Sat at the bar and we were helped right away. The bartender even gave us some popular suggestions on drinks! Not that the name of the place gave it away or anything, but they specialize in moonshine drinks. They don’t make it but they purchase it locally(I think) and invent their own drinks with it. We had the apple pie to start and it was amazing! Tasted just like the real deal. It’s sweet if you’re into that. The other popular one was the porch swinger? It was just ok. Will definitely be back!

The atmosphere is nice, very relaxed bar. Food food that is great for sharing with friends(or to not share at all, the choice is yours). I recommend the barbecue nachos or the quesadillas. Great alcohol as well, one of the most interesting ones they offer is the Apple Pie, literally an alcoholic liquid version of an American favorite.

Just very meh overall experience. Lack of communication amoung servers was a little annoying. Ordered the southern sampler, the fried green tomatoes lacked the texture and crispness I’m used to, the fried pickles were average at best, the deviled eggs had a strange after taste. The avocado was old and when i pointed it out, they just said they make it fresh everday day, it was already alittle brown. The server advised me strongly against a drink that sounded interesting, so I played it safe and got a glass of wine, which was brought to me with cork. The manager stopped by and asked how everything was and I was honest in saying it was disappointing. It was obvious that she didn’t care that we were unhappy, but she brought extra napkins. Don’t waste your time or money. At least the chardonnay was decent, I’ll be sure to buy it in a store soon.

This is certainly a great spot for cocktails and food. The service was great, the food was excellent. I have never had trout with salsa, but I don’t know if I want it without going forward. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Definitely worth a stop if you are downtown Houston.

This is a very cute place and great for lunch or happy hour. Since I work in the area, my friend and I came during lunch. We ordered the southern table brisket nachos, mac & cheese, and mama’s fried chicken sandwich. The brisket nachos would have been enough for the both of us… the dish was bigger than my head! The combination of brisket, potato chips and barbecue was amazing! The mac & cheese was really cheesy and not just creamy which I enjoyed and the fried chicken sandwich was tender and not too fried/greasy. Overall the meal was very good and the portions were big for the price. I have heard great things about the happy hour and can’t wait to come back to try it!

Really impressed with both the food and the service. The brisket is the best I’ve found outside of Gaitlin’s, which is saying a lot for this city. My girlfriend tried a popcorn infused cocktail that she didn’t care for, and they happily exchanged it for something else. Five star food and service at three star prices, all while watching the game on nine big screens.

Great water. Served in a large mason jar with an appropriate amount of ice. The waitress refilled my glass a perfect number of times; I honestly didn’t even notice when it happened. The water was crisp. However, the music being played was horrible enough to effect my water experience.

Post a Unilocal event I went here as a recommendation from a friend, and I’m glad she directed me to this place in downtown. Located on the corner of Prairie and Main Street, is a southern lounge/bar with pretty good food. Like any place you visit in downtown, expect to park on the streets, but if you get there after happy hour(6PM), street parking is free. You have a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Besides the tons of TVs in every direction you turn, the place has a southern touch with the wooden tables, decorations to it(mason jars on display and for your cups). I was hungry so I ordered the smoked brisket grilled cheese sandwich which came with fries. For anyone that enjoys grilled cheese sandwiches, this place is pretty on point adding brisket to it! The fries were decent, but I’d come here again for the sandwich and looking forward to tasting more of what this place has to offer. Service is friendly and the vibe is laid back. The crowd is a mix of business folks in their suits and young adults. To conclude, I love their Southern Hospitality lighting display.

Nice setting but don’t let it fool you… The southern food here isn’t great. The fried pickles were the worst/most expensive I’ve ever had. The tacos tasted great but were far too packed full of meat it was too much to handle. We didn’t try too much beyond that but if you’re looking for southern food there are way better places in Houston.

I’m only giving two start because the server was sweet. Not a lot of good variety and what they did have consisted of bbq sauce on alit of meals and they were out of three common things that you should naturally have, like oranges, eggs. Smh lol I could have made and burnt my own Texas toast with brisket and cheese.

Finally got to try this place. Started off with the deviled eggs for an appetizer. It was good and cheap @ only $ 5. Even cheaper @ $ 3.50 during their HH. For my main course, I went with the Brisket Grilled Cheese per the recommendations of my fellow Unilocalers. Nice assist! This was awesome! The toast was really good and there was a really good amount brisket inside with cheese nicely melted. A nice simple, yet delicious sandwich. My only complaint was the fries that came with the dish were super soft and soggy. i think they might have took them out the frier just a bit too early but they were fresh hand cut from what I could tell. Hope they add more items to the menu but will definitely be back to try more offerings.

Cool location and great for people watching. I ordered deviled eggs, crostini and something else .I recall they all had little salt. Not sure why. Better stick to bottled beer to which they’ve got a good variety to complement anything you pick. I’d go back to try it once more. I like the vibe and the fact that you can dine by yourself and still enjoy the restaurant.

Happy hour from 2pm-6pm Monday through Friday! HH items: The brisket sliders are so delicious!!! For $ 6 you can have 3 small sliders with BBQ brisket and pickled purple cabbage. The meat is moist and tender. The cabbage adds a little kick to the tongue!(10⁄10) Deviled eggs are mediocre. I have had better eggs. For $ 3.50, you get 5 halved eggs. It had too much yolk. In my opinion I think it needs more mayo for a creamier taste. The peachy keen and strawberry moon drinks are $ 5 each. The peachy keen tasted kind of like the gummy peach rings. The strawberry moon was very sweet, so you might want to tell them to make it less sweet. The drink is actually white and not red like I had pictured it in my head. It tasted similar to a Pina Colada but definitely creamier. Regular menu item: Mama’s fried chicken sandwich($ 11). This entrée is the reason why I only gave this restaurant a 3-star. The chicken was extremely salty!!! The chef put way too much salt in the batter and the chicken itself. I took 3 small bites and called it a day. I waved the waitress over and complained a bit. She was very nice and asked if I wanted another entrée or for her to take it off the tab. 10-stars for exceptional customer service!!! I would just stick to the sliders next time!

I just watched the Unilocal episode of South Park. I don’t think I can write as eloquently as Randy Marsh, but I don’t think this place requires it. Moonshiners is a pretty simple, local, and open-air restaurant right off the train line. It has a mix of your typical sandwiches and fried fare and some healthier options such as salads and chicken. After walking downtown all day it was easiest to reach as well which was the biggest plus. Tired + hungry is a bad combo for anyone, but I get very grumpy! We sat on the patio since it was a nice day. I am not typically a patio person and with the people who may be passing on a Main St patio I was even more nervous, but everything was good. The downtown crowds had seemed to die down and they were playing an early 90’s mix that a vagrant woman seemed to love as she danced to Mary Moon on the corner! So we got a good show too. I ordered the strawberry fields salad with grilled chicken and I wish I had taken a pic because it was huge. I haven’t been to Chili’s in a long time, but one of their salads would be the approximate size if not a tad larger. All the fruits and veggies were pretty fresh and the chicken was grilled just for the salad. The only negative was the diet coke I ordered was flat. While I’m not factoring this into the review, there were also no portals in range unless some severe drift happened(if you don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry about it). TL;DR — Small menu, good mix of healthy and comfort food, 90’s music, people watching all mixed together! I’d go again if in the area.

Stopped in for lunch with a friend, and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the middle of busy downtown Houston. Their music selection was engaging. We even saw a few nearby pedestrians dancing on the sidewalk. I had the Beefsteak Tomato Salad. It was simple and elegant, and the lemon vinagrette topped it off perfectly. It was exactly what I was hoping for in a light lunch. I would highly recommend a visit to this little gem!

Decided to try this place out after an event downtown with some friends, and it was mediocre. The food, from the pickles to the nachos, were okay. Definitely doesn’t live up to the«Southern Table» that’s in their name. But if you like moonshine, come here. All their moonshine is infused in house, and I tried a variety of different ones(I can’t remember all of them). The drinks are tasty, and all their mixed drinks are STRONG. Cranberry vodka tasted like vodka on the rocks with a splash of cranberry; but hey, that’s not always a bad thing. The place is super modern and chic, simple and clean. There’s self-seating indoors and outdoors. We came on a Friday night, and it wasn’t hard to find seats. Saturday, it was a struggle. The service was awesome — fast and friendly!

Tried it Saturday night for the first time. I was a little hesitant due to the mixed reviews this place has thus far. Some calling it «regular ol’ pub food» others«great food» so I had to check it out for myself. The place is self seating. It was pretty packed this evening but not packed to where there was a wait. There is also plenty of outdoor seating where you can watch the pass-byers. To drink I got the lemonade(served in a mason jar, of course). It tasted like it was made with tap water, something was off about it. For appetizer, had to get the famous fried pickles people rave about. Knocked it out of the park, LIGHTLY breaded, seasoning was perfect to where it did not over power the actual taste of the pickle. The avocado dipping sauce though, can I just get a pint of this and take it home? Thank you so much! I really liked the selection of food that theyhad and had a hard time deciding whether to get the chicken or brisket grilled cheese. The pictures and reviews really sold me on the latter so I went for it. It was delicious but with every bite I felt my arteries clogging up a bit more every time. The cheese and butter texas toast AND brisket? It was delicious but it was just a bit overpowering. Don’t get me wrong, I finished 80% of it knowing my thighs would hate me later. The brisket was cooked just right, not dry at all. The fries were a bit too oily but I have seen other pictures on here where they did not look as oily as mine were. Off day with the fries? All in all, I will return. I am curious about other items on the menu including the dessert.

Pretty new Southern restaurant on Main Street downtown! Great moonshine cocktails — the Lavender Dream in particular was AMAZING. Most of their menu is meat-centric, but they do have a number of vegetarian and fish options. Their fried green tomato appetizer was awesome. I followed it up with their beefsteak tomato salad which was simple and beautiful. I also tried a couple bites of their mac and cheese and fried okra sides. Everything was good! The guys I was there with raved about their brisket grilled cheese, so I’m pretty sure that’s a crowd pleaser! They did a great job with the interior! Cool place to grab a bite!
