This restaurant is located in a part of town that you wouldn’t normally expect Asian restaurants. But amongst all the taquerias and cantinas, Cuu Long Quan just happens to randomly exist. We went on a Friday night around 6pm and the entire restaurant was empty. We sat at a table and the owner directly asked me(in choppy English) what ethnic background I belong to. He then started speaking to me in Chinese in a very heavy countryside accent. This happened every time he visited our table. I must have looked really stupid because it took me a long time to decipher what he was saying. I wish he just stuck to English. The menu had Vietnamese and Chinese items, which was surprising since the title of the restaurant is in Vietnamese. We both ordered phở and it came out in like 2 minutes. It tasted just like any good phở you’ve ever had, but they skimped on the bean sprouts :( About 7pm, diners finally started coming in and I felt better that the owners were actually making revenue from people other than just us.

Service was very good. The spoken English is a little rough, but the Phở and Service certainly outweigh any short comings. I’ll certainly be back.

Why didn’t I find this place sooner? If it wasn’t for Unilocal,I don’t think many people would see this restaurant unless you were from the area. It’s kind of a hole in the wall but that’s what gives it its charm. Good Vietnamese food, good variety, good prices. What more could you ask for? It’s confusing to me why this place is so empty during weekday lunch hours. Probably the demographic and location but the place is so good. People just don’t know what they’re missing. Maybe it gets busier in the evenings. Side note: don’t expect to order non-Vietnamese food and expect it to be the . Know to expect that their Vietnamese food is what’s good(vermicelli, rice plates, phở, Viet fried fish plate), not Chinese food like stir fry. As a patron, if you know what a restaurant is known for and order it, it will not disappoint.

Place was empty when we arrived around 6pm Wed night, except for a table with 2HPD cops. The older gentleman that waited on us didn’t seem to care for talking or answering questions. We ordered and food came out in about 5 minutes. Broth for Mi Thap Cam was nothing special & fish balls tasted of freezer burn. Hu Tieu Ap Chao was below average– had no savory flavor to it, bamboo shoots were totally not fresh & the dish looked like a bunch of veggies thrown on top of fried noodles. Another cop came in & sat as we were leaving out– glad the cops frequent this place since I wouldn’t sit here long without them!

My fav foods here are 1: fried fish. Yummmm comes with white rice and veggies such as cucumbers and picketed carrots. And of course fish sauce for dipping. 2: hu tieu ap chao. This is the best dish in town. I’ve also ordered this same dish from tan tan. It cannot be compared. The seafood is better and the ap chao is the best. No one makes it like this restaurant. 3: chicken spring rolls: delicious. Perfectly cooked and it comes with peanut or fish sauce as dipping sauce. I prefer the peanut sauce. I’ve tried other dishes here and these three are my absolute fav foods in the SE side of town and it’s much cheaper than other restaurants. The parking bc situation here is ghetto and there are a lot of pot holes. So be careful. I always more sure to pay attention when I come here bc the area is very sketchy but the good is so delicious!!!

This place is bomb! Traveled to Houston for work and took a chance on a small place. It’s not in the best neighborhood, but if you can get past that. You will be in for a treat! I walked in and just asked for his best bowl of phở and best egg rolls he had. I was very impressed. Definitely ranks on best bowl of Phở I’ve ever had. Recommended!

Don’t let the ghetto area intimidates you. The food here was made very authentic. The portion was abundant. We had phở, combo pan fried rice noodle and combo egg noodle soup and we were very happy with the flavor and the portion. Service was ok but I can’t remember any viet restaurant with good service. We will be back for sure!

Their Vietnamese coffee along with the chicken and vermicelli rolls are the best I’ve had! :) The coffee comes out fresh and still in the French press to your table. The rolls are huge, made to order fresh, and accompanied by a most delicious and flavorful sauce. Everything is cheap or reasonably priced. $ 10 min for use of cards, though. And be prepared to use hand gestures/point.

Guy was a little hard to understand and he wasn’t very kind, but I can’t really blame him for that. The food however was really good and the phở seemed fresh. Personally, I think this place needs a little more business.

Can’t believe I never finished my review! I am a regular at Cuu Long Quan. Their Phở noodle soup is what I come here for and I honestly feel is the best in the area. The portion is large too so you’ll get your money worth! Pan fried noodle is a bomb! Ordered it once and really loved it. Friends ordered different rice plates and no one has ever had any complaints for it. It’s definitely a go!

I’ve been going to Cuu Long Quan since 2012 and I have never had a complaint about the food or the service. I always order to go and my food is ready within 10 minutes. The food always tastes awesome. I’m definitely a fan. :)

There are not many Vietnamese options that I know of in the area so my friend and I decided to try this. It is in an old shopping center next to a washateria and a little hard to find due to bad signage. I ordered the meatball phở and dined in my first time and I finished the bowl down to the last drop. The second time I went I ordered to go. I got the meatball phở again(afraid to step out of the box) and my brother got the rare steak and brisket phở. The owner packed it up tightly and let us know how we could easily eat it in the to go box. We both ate it all! Now I am not a Phở connoisseur but I must say I enjoyed it. The toppings were very crisp and fresh. The portion is huge and filling. The broth is tasty. The owner knows limited English but he is very nice. One thing I didn’t like it smelled a little funny in the building. I think there may be something wrong with the sewage line. I remember my college dining hall used to smell that same way and that’s what the problem was.

I had the shrimp spring rolls and phở soup. I give the food a 2. Now as far as it being a hole in the wall place I was going to the restroom and accidentally opened another door that had a bed in the room thought it was kinda weird. I would have to say I really wouldn’t go back there.

This is a completely unconventional review as I didn’t actually eat here. I sent my husband over on his way home to buy some rice because we didn’t have any for dinner. First odd thing was a place that sells rice plates doesn’t have rice? I’m sorry, that’s just confusing… Ok, that’s fine… I guess? Anyways, the worst part was the awful service. Now, I’m Chinese and my husband is Vietnamese. We understand that asian places never have the best service, you don’t go there for the service. However, very rarely is it just flat-out rudeness in your face! Yep, that is all.

I tried to keep this place a secret but it deserves all of the business it can get in a city full of mediocre Vietnamese food. The spring rolls here are not bad and they are huge. So above average huge spring rolls… can’t complain. Their vermicelli dishes are excellent! BUT what I have dreams about and love to fill my belly with is the phở. It is magical. It makes a bad day good and it makes a good day wonderful. You can tell this place is family owned and the people really care about the quality of their dishes. Some of their clientele speak only Spanish and I have witnessed the staff try to explain their menu in their broken English and bring out sample plates. I rarely see such considerate service. The people that have served us are not the«warmest» per se, but they are super helpful and well. their food speaks for itself. Warning, the décor is a little bit off putting, but don’t be quick to judge because the food will make you feel like you’re in paradise.

So, I think Houston has some of the best Vietnamese food I’ve ever had. Coming from someone who used to think Phở Saigon has the STANDARDPHO in Houston, my boyfriend has proclaimed that this place is THEONETOBEAT. It is in an old, run-down shopping center in the Heart of a Lil Mexico area in South East Houston. We came across this gem on a whim. Driving around and seeking shelter from the rain, my boyfriend decided to check the place out after seeing a random vietnamese restaurant among many Taquerias including TAQUERIA del SOL —-scrumptious. SOHAPPYTHATWEDID! The owner, who is also the waiter and everything else, came by to take our order. My fat self asked for FATTYBRISKET and he looked at me like«No fat, only brisket.» sad face :-(Phở is cheap. $ 5.50 for a small and $ 5.75 for a LARGE. When it arrived, it was sooooo fragrant… my boyfriend and I took the first sip and our jaw dropped… the soup is topped with fresh cut cilantro and green onion. No need for sriracha, hoisin, lime etc… when we want Phở, we drive 20 miles to this place lol and we live less than 2 mi from Phở Saigon, Cali’s and 5 other Vietnamese joints. Don’t be scurred or intimidated with the bad engrish… this place is as legit as it gets. If you consider yourself a self-proclaimed Phở connoisseur or just randomly crave amazing Phở, this is a must-try. YOU be the judge… u wont be disappointed ;-)
