The customer service is terrible I set up the electricity for my apartment to be turned on and then needed to SWITCH the apartment number to a different unit and when I thought my request had been done it wasn’t and I was paying for both apartments electricity the one I lived in and the one I never lived on auto pay after they kept calling me and telling me I didn’t pay my bill. When I spoke to customer service they told me it was my fault because I didn’t specify the date to shut off the previous apartments power which I stated had never been turned on when I sent in my request there for wouldn’t have to be turned off because to my knowledge they never turned it on. So now I am out the money for 3 months of electricity for an apartment that I never resided in. This company’s staff is extremely rude and pointless to be on the phone with you because nothing is being resolved and all fault is being put on me and none on the people who actually made the mistake.

I’ve been through two successful billing cycles so far with no surprise charges.
Totals from first bill: $ 51.94÷699 kwh = $ 0.074/kWh
Totals from second bills: $ 179.69÷2446 kWh = $ 0.0735/kWh
I’ve no experience with their customer service as I signed up through Power To Choose. The power service began on the date I requested and I had no issues switching from my previous provider. I enroll in automatic billing and haven’t had to deal with any late fees/​penalties.
I went online after talking about electricity rates with a buddy who just bought a house and found a rate that was about 12% higher. He didn’t believe my rate so I had to show him my bill. I went back on PowerToChoose to see if my rate was still in the ballpark and it was. However, I noticed that their rating had dropped from 4 or 5 down to 2 in the two months that had passed since I switched. I thought I’d provide my good experience thus far, and if anything changes I’ll come back and update with details.
I kind of view utilities and mortgages in the same light. Going through the initial process can be better/​worse across various companies, but once you are «in» (and especially if you autopay) things tend to go smoothly for the term of the contract.
I wish these companies would match the competing offers that exist when your contract expires as changing service every ¹²⁄₂₄ months is an annoyance. I get mailers from Gexa every couple of months trying to entice me back with a great rate… but the people behind those mailers must not be answering their phone calls because before I switched I gave them the chance to keep my business and they declined. Maybe someone at Discount Power will (read this and) create a customer retention product that will allow me to stay with them once my contract term is up. I majored in marketing and would be happy to develop that product in exchange for free electricity for life. ;)

OK friends, it’s been 4 mos. since my enrollment & those initial issues with this REP.
As there have NO further surprises or issues, I have given them another «star».

In my experience,
_​the ‘pow​er​to​choose​.org’ website ALWAYS has to best offers for residential electric plans.
_​not one of the REPS I have used, rewards your customer loyalty at the end of you ‘contract’. To get the best electric rate, you will have to sign-​up with another provider after you have done you research, again.

Made my first monthly payment for half a month’s worth of electricity. The bill was $ 45, I paid my bill a few days late. I was charged a $ 22.95 late fee because this company sends its disconnection notices out 2 days after the due date. That’s equivalent to half of what my service cost was.
I’ve never had this problem with any other company. Very bad first impression as a new customer. Even more frustrating is their lack of customer service. I was told by the Customer Svc. rep she will e-​mail the billing department and request the fee be waived. Now I get to wait 24 hours for an answer. Judging by their billing and notices practices, I expect a no.
I’m also transferring my service to a different unit in my building. Unlike all other electricity providers, this website does not have a web interface to submit the request. You have to e-​mail them the details.
