I came to this donut truck when they were parked in front of Double Trouble off of Main Street. There was already a line there. I had the maple bacon donut with chicken on top and the Thai tea flavored donut. Both were great. Their donuts are more dense, like a cake donut. The macon with chicken was awesome, the Thai tea did not really taste like Thai tea. The donuts were pricey but it’s worth a try. One donut would fill you up. I would chase this truck again.

I occasionally get sweet cravings. Not a huge sweets person. So I thought I would try this place. I was looking at the photos from Unilocal and once I saw the fried chicken donut I was sold! I was hoping that they had that in their selection on the day I went and they did!!! It was yum! My husband tried the maple bacon. Different but something worth trying. Can’t wait to try something different my next visit!

OMG who doesn’t love a donut! The donuts at Doughmaker Doughnuts are the most creative donuts I have ever had in my life. I have been to many donut places(Round Rock Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, Gourdoughs, etc), but the donuts here are the most artful looking I have ever had. The donuts range from $ 3 – 5 per donut. You pay a little more, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. They are bigger than a normal donut as well. Also they are cheaper than the Gourdoughs donuts, but those are larger. The fried chicken and honey donut was amazing. They give you a large piece of fried chicken on it too. Who doesn’t love donuts and fried chicken. I took a dozen to a friends place and everyone was wow and wanted to see them; and try them. These donuts will really make an impression if you bring them into work or where ever. So if you want some amazing creative and artful donuts. Doughmaker Doughnuts is the place to go. I hope they open a place in Austin one day so I don’t have to go to Houston to get them.

They were at MSR Houston yesterday for a private event and even though they only had 3 doughnuts to choose from, the 2 that I tried were so delicious. I tried the Cinnamon Sugar and the Pumpkin Spice and it was difficult to share them, as huge as they are. They’re huge, soft, fluffy, cake doughnuts. I’m a big fan of cake doughnuts in the first place, so maybe I’m a little biased. It’s definitely worth trying when they’re in the area, especially if you have a sweet tooth for doughnuts!

I would give this place 5 stars but I didn’t get my doughnut in a box. It was handed to me like I begged for it lol. However, I tried the chicken and butterpecan doughnut. The chicken doughnut was great the butterpecan could’ve used a little more flavor of the name. Overall this is a drunk mans heaven.

My all-time favorite doughnuts are from Gourdough’s in Austin; Doughmaker’s are reminiscent of Gourdough’s, which is the highest praise I can give. I’m not a light and fluffy doughnut lover – I like mine on the doughy/bready side and DEEPLY fried. I tried the Thai tea doughnut and it fulfilled all of my criteria – a lightly sweet, dense, biscuit-like dough and a deeply bronzed, crusty exterior. I caught them at the end of their shift outside of Double Trouble and the doughnut was still fresh-tasting and just perfection. Yes, the doughnuts are pricey at ~$ 3 a pop, but you can get $ 1 off for bringing your own Tupperware and $ 1 off if you’re brave enough to bike to the truck. Plus, I think they’re worth shelling out for since they’re filling enough that you could split one doughnut between two people if you don’t want to spend the rest of the day in a food coma(ahem, Gourdough’s). Or not. I’m beyond excited to revisit this truck!

Love their donuts! I had the maple bacon and the vietnamese coffee and they were both really good. The only bad thing is that the doughmaker truck does not come out everyday and a lot times they are not in the part of town I am close to. This truck is one of my guilty pleasures.

Tried the orange blossom pistachio donut yesterday. I was extremely disappointed since most of the reviews say their donuts are amazing. The donut tasted old and dry like it’s been sitting there for a while. The frosting tasted good but there was hardly any on the donut so all you tasted was dried dough.

I only had one doughnut so I shall take it a bit easy on them. Honey butter fried chicken! Let’s start off with the chicken. Reviews claimed it was crispy but mine wasn’t crispy. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and juicy but the breading fell off. Now for the doughnut itself. The flavor was that of a Belgian waffle. So essentially a chicken and waffle dish in a different form. The presentation was great as were the flavors but here is where the truck takes a hit. The doughnut was cold and sort of hard. Didn’t taste stale but sure felt like it was. Guess I held high expectations with the reviews I read but will give the other doughnuts a shot soon.

HONEYBUTTERFRIEDCHICKENDONUT. Don’t think about it. Do yourself a favor and order this now! The donuts themselves are very cakey and a smidge on the dry side, but the flavors are very unique(orange pistachio? horchata? sangria?! whaaaat) Like others have said, these donuts are pricey, but the fried chicken donut is soooo worth it. The chicken is juicy and fried to perfection, and the drizzled honey just puts it over the top. Think Whataburger’s honey butter chicken biscuit but 10000000x yummier and 100000x worse for you. Just be patient after you receive your donut so you don’t burn the roof of your mouth, haha Be sure to follow them on social media(twitter, ig, fb) to find out where they’ll be parked, as locations change frequently. We found them outside the Rice Village flea market, but it looks like they’ve been at MFAH recently!

Follow them on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook if you dare. Photos will cause you to become obsessively crave their donuts for days. Yes, they’re a little bit more expensive($ 3 – 5 a donut!), but they’re totally worth it. the Maple Bacon, the Honey Butter Fried chicken, Sangria, Cinnamon Sugar … I want them now!

When it comes to donuts, I must admit this pretty much is as good as it gets. My roommate casually walked in with a box and asked if I’d like to share a leftover donut with her. I’d heard the hype and seen plenty of Instagram posts from friends about Doughmaker’s, so I didn’t think I should pass up this opportunity. She cut a giant donut in half for us to split. Although the donut itself wasn’t very big, it was topped with a piece of fried chicken which almost doubled it’s size. The combination seemed strange but I went with it and O… M…G. The sweetness from the honey with the saltiness of the fried chicken made this incredible flavor combination that I can’t even describe with words. This was completely unlike anything I’d ever had, and I was sad for my half to end. So delish. I will definitely be tracking this truck down in the near future.

honey butter fried chicken — good. chicken was moist. bit pricey for a small size. Vietnamese chocolate — unique flavor but doughnut was just dry. maple bacon — dry, the bacon was soggy not crispy at all. overall, if i was going to spend this much money on doughnuts i’d rather go to gourdoughs in austin where your doughnut is filled with toppings and much larger.

Not 100% sold. During white linen night I was beyond excited to try their donuts. Adorable truck, nice display case for the pastries, and friendly and appreciative truck staff. I ordered the maple bacon and ginger bread peach stout. Both were $ 4 a pop. Which in my book is pretty expensive for a donut. $ 2.50? maybe $ 3.00 mmmm ok this better be good, but $ 4 yikes! The maple bacon tasted more like a biscuit than a donut. I liked the glaze and the chewy bacon on top. However like most biscuits it was dry. The balance of flavor was perfect but the dryness of the cake donut really wasn’t doing it for me. The peach was my favorite. I didn’t really taste any ginger or stout but it was good and the peach on top was delicious. It reminded me of peach pie. But again, so dry. My husband and I both agreed that the peach was by far the best flavor wise and he is practically married to all things bacon. It is hard for me to give a 3 because the flavors were all there and on point, but I just can’t give in to a dry 3 day old tasting cake donut for $ 4. I am not sure if they had to bake a lot over a few days for this event but if so it really showed in the final product. Maybe they had an off day. Who knows. I am willing to give them another shot because I really want to try their fried chicken donut.

I didn’t know that I could love like this… I do not eat donuts… normally. I always buy them for my team but never eat them(kolache kinda gal) but my friend Maria conned me into going. I now love Maria! The truck was parked in the lot across from the MFA that day so easy to get to! Win! I ordered a few to try —(1) Vietnamese coffee + chocolate espresso(2) cinnamon one(3) peach one… Can we say — fat girl down and happy? Lol They were all good. Fresh, hot and oohh so delicious. I know some people will be shocked by the prices($ 3 – 5 ea) but it’s worth it. They have a chicken tender one but were sold out This is a definite must try and that is coming from a non-donut eater. The guy at the counter(cutie) was very nice and it looked like it might have been his dad making the donuts in the back of the truck(cutie #2) So go get a donut, you will be so happy…

I happened to stop by the Doughmaker truck this morning on the way to work and I’m pretty sure I was the first customer of the day. They had four types of donuts on the menu: pistachio, maple and bacon, cinnamon and sugar, and the Vietnamese chocolate espresso(at least that’s how I remember it). I ended up getting a few of the pistachio and the cinnamon sugar for the office and it was a hit. The donuts are dense so these are not your flaky light donuts. I loooove donuts and it’s not easy to finish a whole donut cause it’s substantial. The dough has a cake like consistency to it and yeah it is a little oily as one of the other Unilocalers noted, but damn it’s tasty. I will happily be back again and of all the food trucks in town this has a unique offering and is worth a trip… or two or three. When the truck is at MFAH they are in the parking lot so parking is not an issue. Oh and they take credit cards just in case you weren’t sure.

I recently read about Doughmaker in Houston Press. I was really intrigued by their story & respected how he came so far to create his own product & business. So I came out to an 8th Wonder Brewery event & had to get my fix. Pros: — The Fried Chicken on top of a sweet glazed masterpiece. I was in love. So much flavor, perfect blend of spice & crispiness. — Awesome, clean & well kept up with food truck. — The donut itself had so much flavor & was extremely moist but not soggy or overwhelming. — Decently priced, not something you just get anywhere. Cons: — Not a damn one! Perfect everything.

After many subtle hints by my friend to go check this food truck out, I made it out on National Doughnut day. When you first approach the food truck it looks like something that came out of the cartoon city Gotham. A very evil villain vibe and rightfully so, as the Houston doughnut scene has truly met its maker, the Doughmaker. These are truly a different breed of gourmet doughnuts. Don’t expect your typical yeast doughnuts, but instead a mix between an old school cake style and carnival funnel cake doughnut with glazes created by Gandalf the Great himself. The glazes will blow you away with extreme complex flavors making you want to order one of every kind that the doughmaker has on hand. I recommend eating these when the glaze is hardened just a bit, take small bites, and chew slowly to savor the flavor. So far I have only had three kinds and will be back to try all of them so I can rank them accordingly. Below are my recommendations as of current starting with 1 being the best. 1) Vietnamese Coffee 2) Orange Pistachio 3) Sugar(forgot the rest of the name) 4) Lemon-Berry 5) Maple Bacon
