It was my first time and most likely be my last time. I do honestly love the egg tart here but the price and the unwelcome rudeness lady … i am so done with this place

Amazing egg tarts, chicken puffs, bbq pork puffs, and curry beef puffs. I’ve eaten egg tarts at the finest stores in Hong Kong and I think this guy makes them even better.

The egg tarts were good but overall experience was just so so. Below average service, the place looks old, dirty and warm.

I heard so many good things about the egg tarts here I had to come! The experience was more than disappointing, except the egg tarts were yummy(but egg tarts in general are yummy). The service was so bad I really don’t see how this place deserves 4.5 stars, hence my 1 to bring it down by a teensy bit, or not at all since so many people enthusiastically reviewed it. Well, I’ll just be the oddball here with a one star review I guess. They have regular and egg white egg tarts, but apparently the egg white ones are only available on weekends. I went on a weekday and was disappointed to see their meager display in such a big store. I got a few egg tarts, the whole time feeling extremely unwelcomed by the Cantonese speaking lady who spoke some Chinglish. She answered in one word or phrase, and seemed quite impatient with me, the only customer there in the 15 minutes I was there(diaper change took a while). «Cash only», «no», «no egg whites», «no mochi» «weekends only», «there is mochi(thanks for contradicting yourself), but only mango», absolute no elaboration, and she looked mad the entire time(did I disturb your lunch? What did I do to you?) I came back on Saturday, still only one type of mochi. I commented — «but you said you’d have a lot more in weekend, so I drove back to get some»…“mango only”. Ok… so unapologetic, didn’t seem to want business. Also, I waited for a good FIVE minutes before she came out of the kitchen to the counter, again I was the only customer, and I kept saying«hello» to get her attention, stood there like a dummy in the store. I didn’t leave only because we live far from China Town and I came all the way back to give it another chance. I read a friend’s review that said she put bad mochi back in the fridge, hmmm… yuck! While the egg tarts were tasty, the store was empty both times I went, a bit dirty and old, and this lady(owner?) had no hospitality in her, I felt very unwelcomed.

I came here specifically for the egg tarts expecting to whet my appetite and wasn’t(too) disappointed. I haven’t found one I really like, but this one is maybe one of the better ones in the area. The crust is good and flaky, so I wouldn’t change that, but the egg was watery and too sweet. Like they just went and skimped on the egg and loaded on the condensed milk. It does the trick though and satisfied a craving, and for the price, I’d do it again.

One of the best egg tarts that I’ve eaten in my life and very likely the best in Texas!

Being a huge fan of egg tarts, found this place on Unilocal and was astounded at how flaky and amazing the egg tarts looked. Had to make a trip over. First of all they accept cash only. Second of all the guy who was working was SO nice. He kept trying to make conversation with us when he didn’t have to. Something I rarely see in bellaire. Ordered a BBQ, chicken, pork puffs, and egg tarts. First off I’ve never had warm egg tarts. Such a different experience. All of it was flaky and delicious. Will be returning very soon. Came around 3:00 on a Wednesday, but I heard they sell out soon on weekends. Get here soon.

My sister brought three dozens of the egg custards back to Dallas from Houston while I brought some back from 85C Bakery in SoCal.(Coincidence, I guess great minds think alike.) We were discussing whose egg custards were better and decided to have the whole family do a taste test. Although 85C’s egg custards were pretty good, they did not hold up to Eck’s. Eck’s egg custards were fluffy and sweet, but didn’t have that condensed milk taste to it. It didn’t have the eggy taste either. The crust was a mixture between pie and puff pastry. It’s soft and flaky but will still hold up well after being in the refrigerator for a few days.

In the past, Ive tasted Eck Bakery’s egg custard and mochis when a coworker would bring them to work. The mochi were to die for and I have a mouth-gasm everytime. The egg tarts are pretty top notch as well. So why did I give it 2 stars? All comes down to the first time I actually went to the place to pick up some mochi. I walked in at around 1:00 pm and witnessed the lady casually eating her noodles at the counter. No biggie I thought. I asked if they have mochis for sale and she pointed me to the cooler in the corner. After a glance, i asked for 5 of them. She walks towards the cooler, grabs some, puts it down and says«they’re not good anymore» and put them back in the cooler. I was appreciative that she was honest and saved me a few bucks on a less than perfect product. But after that, I was left standing there not knowing what to think. Then I realized, first if the mochis weren’t good, throw them out immediately instead of putting them back. Second, she made no attempt to let me know when she will be making more. Third her picking up her bowl of noodles agitated me to no end. As a niche business, you need to have your key products always in process. This means to always have custards and mochi’s in production despite the time of the day. Asians communicate in what is not said, and everything i read off of her insinuated that I was more of an annoyance than a patron looking for mochi’s. I left disappointed not that I didn’t get mochi, but more of the way the whole situation was handled.

$ 12 for a dozen of egg tarts as of last week. so worth. best egg tart i’ve ever had. crust is flaky and isn’t cakey at the bottom, and reheat very well in the microwave or oven. center isn’t hard or gummy, but soft and glorious without being mushy. a must visit when you’re in the area. large area for a bakery. sells other goods too; one day i’ll come early enough to get some curry puffs before they sell out. they speak mandarin, canto, and english!

Wouldn’t have found out about this place if it weren’t for Unilocal! They have a few different pastries but the egg tarts are what they’re known for. I haven’t had egg tarts at too many different places so i don’t have much to compare to but these were truly delicious. Not too sweet and the pastry shell was the perfect texture and consistency. I went after work(around 6 pm), with the thought of getting a dozen for $ 11(save 1 dollar when you buy a dozen otherwise they are $ 1 a piece) but they had only 7 left which gladly purchased them all. They have egg white tarts too but I will have to try those on my next trip. I have a feeling I’ll be a frequent visitor! FYI — They accept only cash

The best egg tarts hands down in town! Super fresh tart and the crust is always crispy. Only downfall is that they only take cash. It’s a dollar for each or $ 11 for a dozen.

Do you hear the crisp sound of satisfaction my taste buds are screaming out for the world to hear?! This hidden gem has explosively DELICIOUS egg tarts. When I was little, I used to always go to bakeries in Chinatown and get an egg tart or two. I’ve literally grown up eating these flaky treats from the heavens. So, my taste buds know when they’re consuming some good ones. The egg tarts at Eck sell out fast, usually in portions of a dozen at a time. Each egg tart is a $ 1, $ 11 for a dozen. When the tarts come out toasty from the oven and are placed in the boxes, THAT is the prime time to eat the tarts. The first bite into the tart is creamy, soft, yet firm and flaky. The egg tart both crumbles and holds together as the puff pastry shell breaks into it’s layers and the custard remains resilient. It’s the perfect marriage of textures and flavors. Simply put, Eck will give you an amazing experience with its egg tarts — they’re light, yet extremely satisfying and you’ll be leaving with a warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach!

Best egg tarts in Houston! I had been searching for the perfect egg tart since my old roomie in Austin was in love with egg tarts. Other egg tarts in Houston are often made out of a pie crust. The egg tarts here are flaky, like a croissant. Other places that serve egg tarts are dim sum, who just don’t specialize in egg tarts, and bakeries. My friend saw my egg tart hunt and recommended this bakery. This bakery is called 蛋撻王 in Chinese, which translates to «Egg Tart King.» So clearly this place specializes in egg tarts, right? I don’t know how they got to «Eck Bakery» for an English name… Perhaps Egg Custard King? So the egg tarts are AMAZING fresh out of the oven. A lot of people come and pick up a dozen for various potluck parties especially around the holidays, so you can call ahead so they are prepared for your order. Otherwise when you get there, you might be hanging out waiting 20+ min for the next batch. I didn’t mind since I wasn’t in a hurry and knew that glorious tarts right out of the oven was coming my way soon. They have both egg white and the normal yellow egg tarts. I’ve had difficulty reaching by phone before… but after repeated calls someone picked up. The egg tarts are not too sweet. When fresh out of the oven, the egg filling is piping hot and that crispy flaky crust meshes perfectly with the mellow soft inside. If the tart is cold, I recommend microwaving or putting into the oven. This bakery’s customers generally don’t dine-in. They just come in and out. I sit down to wait for the next batch or to eat a piping fresh egg tart before heading out(eating is messy b/c the flaky crust gets everywhere)…but it’s not the type of place you’d hang out all day and chat. Cash only. $ 1/tart or $ 11/dozen.

Eck Bakery is truly egg tart heaven!!! ECK(egg custard king) makes the BEST INCREDI-licious egg custard tarts in Houston. The bakery is open 8am-7pm daily but I recommend buying these goodies earlier in the day, especially on weekends! They sometimes close early in the evenings when their goodies are all sold out. The early bird catches the worm or in this case, those highly addictive egg custard tarts! The egg custard tart filling is creamy and rich, with the right amount of sweetness. The pastry shell is baked to perfection, with soft, buttery and flaky layers.(Other places around town have bland or overly sweet fillings and then overcook the pastry shell– no thank you). For an added bonus and extra treat, warm these up in your toaster oven and they taste even better! Remember to bring cash to treat yourself to a dozen egg tarts for only $ 11, otherwise they are $ 1 each. You haven’t truly lived until you feast upon a few or a dozen of these amazingly delicious egg tarts! I’m contemplating my next visit as I’m writing this review since it’s literally down the street from my neighborhood! Oh Eck Bakery, how I absolutely love your egg custard tarts– my sweet and sinfully guilty pleasures for any time of the day.

I am so disappointed. I understand not to have high expectations in regards to China Town dining establishments, but seriously?! I placed my advanced order for 2 dozen egg tarts for 3pm on Thanksgiving day. I do them the Asian courtesy, of coming 15 minutes late, and they tell me they are not ready. They asked for 30 extra minutes. Thats fine, I run an errand, return and then they ask again for 15 minutes. Sure, I already wait this long and its literally my contribution for the Thanksgiving dinner. I return and they still aren’t ready. I am completely upset now. So I basically come empty handed to dinner because they decided to sell all the egg tarts that I advanced order. If it wasn’t for their delicious pastries, I would never return. Darn you amazing egg tarts.

Yes, these are the best egg custard tarts I have had. Theirs actually have a flakey crust! However, because of all of the butter they use to make that delicious crust, it is really greasy too! Like put that baby on a paper towel and you’ll see what I mean. The filling is nice too, lightly sweet without the sugariness. They didn’t have any of the eggwhite ones, which was disappointing. What is even more amazing is the curry pastry. It’s flakey and filled with slivers of beef and onions along with a pocket of comforting curry. It was one of the best curry filled pastries I have had! I highly recommend it, though again it was a bit on the greasy side. I guess greasy and buttery just go hand in hand. Sigh.

I’m sorry Hong Kong, do you even make egg tarts anymore? Surprisingly one of the best egg tarts I’ve had in a while and I go to dim sum a lot. I mean, this pretty much puts some of the egg tarts in the SGV in LA to shame. Sorry, but it’s true. And even the egg tarts in HK I’ve had of late are pretty much a notch shorter than the ones here. The family is super devoted to making these guys and there is also a whiter version of these egg tarts, presumably with just egg whites. I want to try those next time, but my aunt was on a mission to get these fresh babies. Man, they did not disappoint. I don’t think I need to describe what everyone else is tasting– AMAZINGNESS. On a side note, we also got some swiss rolls and those were excellent as well. Great texture, just the right amount of cream and delightful taste for the cake itself. I preferred the vanilla one to the chocolate one though.

The bakery was kind of hard to find since it is in a part of Chinatown that I rarely go to. It’s kind of a sketchy area. I’ve never had egg tarts before and my friend was pretty adamant about bringing me here to try them for the first time. God bless her wow the egg tart has got to be one of my new favorite desserts! So warm and flakey and fresh! They have egg white tarts as an option as well. They are only $ 1 each, but you can get a dozen for $ 11. I should have…
