I’m torn between a doing a good review and a bad one… This past Saturday was a nice day and we decided to take a drive around Houston; to see where the road would take us sort to speak. Well, we got caught in the thunderstorm. It was pouring so hard, we could barely see out of the windshield, moments later our phones went off with the flash flood warning. We had to get to higher ground and out of the freeway; we pulled in to this Frenchy’s. We had no idea how long we were going to have to wait, the kids were hungry, and it smelled so good even with the pouring rain and closed windows. After trying to avoid temptation, we ran inside to take a look. I’m not gonna lie, I felt like I was in Compton CA. There’s bullet proof windows from the counters to the ceilings!!! What goes on in the 5th Ward people!!! Still, all the workers were very nice and very friendly. The chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and homemade rolls were great. We got the food, more than enough for the five of us, and only around $ 20. We drove all the way home, about 45 min drive, and the food was still warm. What I wasn’t happy about was that it’s the only place we used hubby’s debit card the entire month. The girl kept it a little longer than usual, but we didn’t think anything of it. Well, we started getting unauthorized transactions two days later. I hope it’s just my imagination, but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck!!! Anyhow, the food was great. Next time I’ll probably pay with cash, if I’m ever in that area, probably not.

It has been years since I’ve been to this location since I just moved back to the Houston area. I definitely remembered good chicken, so I thought, «why not have some for brunch today?» ;) Arrived here shortly after opening this am. Wasn’t sure that they were open yet, but was greeted by a worker with a smile and a «Come on in!» Ended up goin through the drive-thru n had similar positive attitude from the other workers. They weren’t real bubbly like Chick Fil-A, but kinda like the church kitchen ladies who smile n like serving, but want u to hurry up so they can get through this line. For those who are scared to go to «this neighborhood»…side note… the people don’t bite… Lol. There is a very good since of «community» especially with the elderly population that have lived here for a while. Typically everyone speaks and smiles, and will look at you crazy of u don’t respond :). Anyhow, the chicken was excellent, just like I remember. So good I forgot to take a picture lol! Very crispy n seasoned just right… not too salty. I don’t know which was better the wings or the yeast rolls… not to mention the old school«grape koolade»(as spelled on the menu) ;). Warning… the koolade is diabetes in progress, but oh so good! Just be sure to check ur blood sugar first lol. Someone else mentioned the cheap prices n I beg to differ for chicken. If u r single the prices will suffice. However, don’t try to feed ur family of five for $ 10 like at Church’s, even though this tastes way better. The only con was that the wings were a lil skimpier than I remember, but the taste made up for the size on top of the fact that they gave us an extra wing(possibly to compensate idk???). Tip: the wings at any Frenchys I’ve been too always taste better than other pieces n I’m usually a dark meat person .The sides at this location are bigger than other Frenchys. Try the yeast rolls if u like bread n u won’t be disappointed. That’s all for now! I’ll try to remember a pic next time!

Best fried chicken ever compared to the other places & other frenchys locations. I read some other comments about the employees being rude… well that’s just the way it is! Lol I’ve never had a problem so no complaints here. But that glass wall over the counter kind of freaks me out! Lol anyways the chicken is always nice & hot… delicious! The wings are big & tender too.

SMDH… So this place isn’t in the Heights or Kingwood. Big whoop. If you’re scared of going into Fifth Ward, then don’t go! I’ve been eating here for more than 25 years and have never had a problem. Understand that Frenchy’s is an experience. You’re not going to always get great service, but you WILL always get great fried chicken. I read a few reviews from people who didn’t care for the chicken or the sides. This isn’t your cookie cutter variety fast food. The chicken is the best I’ve ever had. It’s good and salty and the crust is incredibly light and delicious. I mostly get the seasoned fries, which are also seasoned really nicely, but I’ve tried the collard greens and a few other items. They’ve never disappointed. Rolls are always good, too.

I come here quite often. The location & area doesn’t intimidate me at all since I grew up in a similar area. The only reason I come here is for the food & convenience. There are times that I really dread coming here because the employees are ALWAYS so rude! Also, the drive thru screen has the specials posted on a piece of paper so when the backlight is on, it is difficult to read the specials. Since I could barely see it, I asked them what the special was. They told me to read the sign & was not helpful at all. They always try to rush you & get an attitude if you ask any questions. Please get polite employees & maybe people will be more motivated to come here.

Context: I live about 5 minutes away and craved some nice, greasy fast food. Ain’t no Popeyes or KFC nearby. Then I found this place. Pros: Delicious fried chicken. Juicy and crispy, well marinated. The pink lemonade and tea are full of sugar — the best complement to some good old soul food. Nice service behind the counter. They have some good slices of cake if available. Cons: Service is like going to the post office. The sides are just okay(mashed potatoes, mac ‘n cheese, dirty rice). Limited condiments. Overall: Come here for some good, cheap soul food. Go to Popeyes or Church’s if you want good sides, come here for good chicken. I’ll be back.

Good chicken. Not so good area, but I’ve had no problem at all. Worth the adventure to cruise thru for some finger lickin’ chicken.

I don’t really like fried chicken but I love Frenchey’s. I also really enjoyed the fries as they use a special seasoning that makes them very tasty. As pointed out, the neighborhood is lousy and the building itself is quite dingy and grungy.

It’s not Frenchie’s, keep an eye on the spelling. In all actuality, it doesn’t matter. This chicken may be even more flavorful than the original, I know the fries get a better treatment here, with a generous sprinkling of cajun salt. And it’s in the 5th ward, and if you ever dare leaving your car, the registers are all behind bullet proof glass. Food’s worth the risk, though.

I’ve been patronizing this chcken restaurant for about two or three years now. But I do not go here that often because it’s far where I live. But I always make sure I stop by to grab me a meal as I drive home from Houston. The tasty flavor of their fried chicken have not changed over the past years. However, the size of the chicken shrank!!! What happened??? Economy cut down??? Oh well, as long as the chicken taste good, no problem with me.
