Gastro Punk

Ordered the bbq pork nachos, sliders, and the fish tacos. Everything was super bland and dry! Also the veggies weren’t fresh and the buns tasted old. Won’t be coming back here.

Gastro PUNK is right. Horrible customer service! Our food sat in the window of the truck for about half an hour because the guy did not bother to call our names or get out of the truck to let us know our food was ready. When we finally decided to walk up to the truck to check on the status of our food, the guy told us it had been ready and was sitting there because we had our backs turned to him. Food was okay but service definitely left a bad taste in our mouths.

To be fair, I didn’t eat the full order. For all I know, it could have been the most delicous food on the planet. It looked extremely greasy and messy. I only received one napkin. I ordered chicken wings. I did not receive a fork. I tasted a small bit of the sauce but it was really spicy and greasy. Loved the Buffalo Bayou Brewery though! Also the place had a lot of hipsters and dogs so that’s good!

Horrible service!!! A girl that was about 12 served us and was unable to communicate unless asking the cook for permission before responding. We were told there were no chips yet customers after us received chips… when I inquired about it, they were reluctant to provide them. The cook/​owner was extremely rude. Never eating at this food truck again!

A decent food truck, some items are huge, some you are over paying for. I tried these guys out when at Liberty Station. First off, there was only one person doing everything. Cooking, taking orders and money, sometimes getting orders mixed up. There was no kind of number system, and he did not take your name, so you kind of had to guess when your order was up. Often, he would say in just a minute, but ended up much longer. Really I can’t blame him with lots of orders coming in. Though it was completely unorganized.
There are a few burgers on the menu. Which are huge, and seem overwhelming. The burgers are a mix of pork and duck, which is really unique. I did not try them, but will look forward next time I see them.
They had a few different tacos, and a new steak panini on. The tacos are kind of blah, and to small for the price. Considering most everything else is huge, I am a little surprised at the portions here. The steak panini was OK. On focaccia bread, some kind of spread, and grilled onions. Lots of meat, but the steak was over cooked, and a bit tough to chew on. Though hot, and filling. The bread was really tasty, and the highlight for me (which overall is good and blah at the same time). It came with house made chips that are very good. Again, I am really surprised that so much came with my panini, but the tacos were the same price, and three tiny little things with not much flavor.
Overall, I will certainly try them again. I assume it was the owner doing everything, and he was incredibly nice and patient with the amount of volume he was having. I hope he gets some help, and will certainly report back when I get a chance.

Tuna burger was great. Competes with others I have had in town.
The best part of it is the seaweed salad I think!

The mecca of heart-​attack burgers. They had an array of burgers, tacos, loaded fries, and sandwiches. They also serve brunch during brunching hours.
I had the Suicide Burger ($ 13), which I can’t remember exactly it had in it because it was so crazy. I do remember the patty was a mixture of about 4 or 5 meats w/​bacon on top, all the normal fixins w/​melted swiss, and some sort of amazing sauce that made me want to just eat it by itself it was so good. All w/​homemade chips. I only made it through about half of my burger and a few chips before I could go no further. I wanted to cry because I had no way of saving the rest for later (it comes on the normal food truck/​ball park type plate). I wish It came in a to-​go box. Something that huge, unless you have a vivacious appetite or are planning on sharing, you will not finish.
The service was ok. Took a while to cook (20 min or so), because there was only 1 guy and about 20 customers. My chips were cold (I’m pretty sure these were supposed to be warm) and my burger was lukewarm. I don’t remember them serving drinks, either. We had to go to a neighboring place to get something. Totally worth it though. Will go back, with drink in hand.

This Gastro Punk food Truck was parked by Buffalo Bayou Brewing. Had some interesting things on the menu and everyone was giving suggestions of things they liked. Unfortunately they didnt have any veggie items. We asked why and he said they werent big sellers so he stopped having a veggie option. He did offer to make me the Pulled pork nachos without the pork, so I gave them a try. Potato chips, beans, cheese… I was happy. Food went well with the beers too!

Homeade kettle chips topped with seasoned and spicy queso, beans, and tender, juicy, pulled pork. I’ve never had nachos like this, and they’re amazing!
This is the only item I’ve tried from this truck, but they do have an array of options. I visit the Houston food park regularly, and I’ve ordered these at least 3x… they’re that good.

Gastro Punk made their stop at the My Food Park HTX for lunch and I’m glad that they did because I always wanted to try them, especially their Dork Burger. The name is what it means, duck mean and pork meat for the patty and loads of toppings to make this burger a $ 10+ but pretty much a full meal for an average size adult.
When the burger came out, it smelled very good and it was huge. But I felt like my sense of smell and sight have overhyped my appetite a bit because when I took a bite of it, I couldn’t distinguish between any duck meat flavor or the ground pork flavor. As juicy as it is, that’s the second thing that kind of worried me. Since the burger is so huge, I had to cut it in half first. But as soon as it’s cut in half, I see it’s still very pink and raw-​ish in the middle, especially the patty is a pretty fat patty.
I start to eat around the raw part and try to enjoy what’s good of this dork burger but the sight of the raw patty in the middle kind of ruined it. Over all it’s still a good meal but I think there still some things needs to be worked on.

I gave blood today and was advised to go have a big meal afterwards. What?! No problem, lady, because Gastro Punk was parked at the BRC building (the corner of the Rice running track and Main Street). Having never been there before I asked about what was popular. The adorbs guy behind the counter told me to hit up the Dork Burger because it’s pretty unusual to have ½ duck, ½ pork on a burger. (Holy crap, I just got the joke: duck + pork = dork. Blame it on the blood loss.) Anyways, this burger is everything you could ever want on a burger. The smaller patties make for a taller burger and they were seasoned and cooked to perfection. You get a subtle duck flavoring that plays with the pork and bacon strips and carmelized onions and melted gooey cheese. And omg that pink sauce is to die for, mixed with fresh lettuce tomato and onion. The counter guy must’ve seen me struggling with this and brought me out a fork but I was already committed to taking this down solo. I’m not a big fan of crazy meat concoctions because I like traditional burgers, but this one was just enough fancy to feel like I was stepping outside my box, with just enough traditional to satisfy that burger craving. This burger is messy and gooey and I’m pretty sure my wedding ring needs a cleaning now, but I would be hard pressed to try anything else at this point. Dork Burger till I die!
I had the sweet potato pie as well – I shared it with my toddler who adored it. I liked it but I would be open to trying their other desserts next time.
Gastro Punk, I hope you are scheduled for that BRC space the next time I have to give blood, you’re medically delicious!

Caught it last night @ Memorial Wine Cellar, Pretty bummed out when it didn’t offer truffle mac balls, but I settled down with the tuna burger. Although it’s pretty pricey @ $ 12, It didn’t skim out on the seaweed and tuna — I think it pretty much had a small bowl of seaweed (just like the portion you get for an appetizer on a sushi restaurant) and big chunk of perfectly cooked tuna steak (not too dry or tough). I’ll find this truck again to try the truffle mac balls and buffalo burger 1 of these days.

Today is my 2^nd visit, first visit last week trying just the truffle mac/​cheese balls.
It was alright.
Today we had the beef short rib taco… initially we thought it was pricey at $ 11 but still wanted to try it.
For $ 11, it was a very hearty meal, there were 3 tacos in there and it was filled!
It was tasty. My wife had a small compalint — too much cheese (she’s not a fan of cheese)

I was skeptical to try this food truck because of the mixed reviews, but I am glad that I did! I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with pickled cucumbers. Lots of flavors! Very good! My sister ordered the ahi tuna sandwich. She said it was delicious! I will definitely be back for more!

Made it to the top of my favorite food truck in Houston. The foods is amazing. Definitely a must try when you see them around town. My favorite top picks is the Ahi tuna burger, Truffle mac cheese balls, Bbq pull port nachos and the Pull pork sandwich.

Just passing by, I stopped and got the Ahi Tuna Burger. It’s pricey at $ 12, but worth it. Perfectly seared tuna, great wasabi mayo, delicious bun. Very interesting crunchy seaweed salad instead of the usual lettuce. Came with a delightful pickle spear unlike any I’ve tasted.

What is going on here? Just from the name, I have no idea what kind of food they make.
I came here with my boyfriend and he got the Gastro Punk burger (their signature item). I had a couple of bites. It’s basically a burger with bison bacon between two grilled cheeses. Sounds good on paper but it was very overwhelmingly flavorless. The patty was extremely dry, the bison bacon tasted like regular bacon you get at the grocery store, and the only good thing was the grilled cheese! But I can make that myself with two slices of bread and a Kraft single. The burger ended up being $ 13 and my boyfriend left feeling nauseous.
They also have a huge TV screen on the side of their truck playing random stuff and rock music blasting. You can’t even hear them call your number. I feel like they should just go with the name system.
I was also confused by the girl delivery bags of romaine lettuce and other ingredients from another truck at the food park. Is there a secret partnership going on?
I have mixed feelings. I want to give the other items on the menu another try, but it seems a little risky and pricey.
