This is a food truck on the side of the gas station lot. I’ve came here one to many times and can’t believe I didn’t write a review for it. The food is fresh since you’re waiting about 15 – 20 mins for food. I had the lamb and chicken over rice with the salad on the side. Salad had raw onions on top of it! I hate onions! The lamb beef is gyro so it’s a bit on the salty side but you eat it with rice so it kinda balances out. The chicken was soft and had good flavor. Their white sauce and red sauce was smothered on top. The white sauce is some type of yogurt with dried herbs and red sauce tasted like it was Tabasco with other spices. I also had their Falafel and it was more on the dry side which I didn’t care for. I like the falafel at whole foods since I am able to taste the ingredients. Anyways, I also had their carrot and beets juice and it was yummmmmmo. Super fresh!

the lamb and rice was great! the seasoning was perfect! like another Unilocaler said extra white sauce and red on the side, the red sauce is mild for a hot sauce but I always like to control the quantity of my hot sauce. The white sauce the standard yogurt, cucumber and dill so popular in Mediterranean cuisine but maybe with a little more dill than cucumber. rice was tender and went perfectly with the lamb, which is the best I ever had. come hungry the portions will fill you up.

I ordered my first Gyro King meal(lamb over rice for $ 8) via Unilocal’s app through Eat24. I paid with my credit card through the app and got an email with a confirmation # and the message that my order would be ready in «10−35 minutes.» About 20 min after I placed my order, I show up at the truck(in the Chevron parking lot at Almeda and OST), let the staff know that I placed my order online… and the staff told me they haven’t been filling online orders all night because they have been totally overwhelmed with the number of customers. Awwwww man. I’m preparing myself to stand and wait in line again, but the incredibly nice and polite staff guy says he can put my box together for me really quick and does me a solid. I walk away with my food 2 min later as if the problem had never happened — at around the same time I get a text message and email from an Eat24 staff member letting me know that they were unable to contact Gyro King to fulfill my order and to contact them ASAP to either get a refund or get food from somewhere else. Great service by all parties! BUT, of course, the main event is the food. The lamb over rice was a solid choice. A HUGE portion of lamb/rice — definitely enough for 2 meals for me – accompanied by a green leaf lettuce salad with cucumbers and onions, drizzled all over with lots of white sauce. Unfortunately the meat was pretty salty(and super flavorful due to lots of spices) so I chopped up a big tomato and threw it into the box which turned out to be really tasty. The meat was tender, the veggies fresh, the basmati rice well cooked. I had just eaten Halal Guys a week prior so a comparison is inevitable. For your money’s worth, definitely Gyro King — the portions are huge and the meal is hearty. For overall taste, Halal Guys wins. I thought their lamb wasn’t nearly as salty but still packed with flavor. Also, I think Halal Guys’ rice was better flavored and there’s just something about eating bright orange rice that puts me in a happy place. :) Plus, their salad came with tomatoes. Overall, definitely returning and bringing many more here. Love the convenient location, huge portions, tasty lamb, and great service!

Pretty solid halal food. Ain’t as good as the original in NYC, but close enough. Get extra sauce makes it that much better!

Yes it is a food truck. Yes it is in a gas station parking lot. Yes it is unbelievably delicious. I was first shown the wonders of Gyro King around 10:30pm on a Saturday evening by a doctor from the VA(across the street). Despite the name«Gyro King» you are better off ordering something else. I got the Lamb over rice(a #3 on the board) with all sauces on the top. Tried the chicken over rice and it was 4⁄5 stars but lamb is phenomenal. Falafel was also fine but wife agreed that lamb over rice is the way to go. Truck doesn’t sell sodas and will direct you to the gas station. Juices are available but not that tasty. The wait without a line is about 7 – 10 min. The lamb over rice($ 7-$ 8) is a actually a double portion in my opinion and I usually only eat about half of it in one sitting. Friendly service that accepts credit cards. Opening up a brick and mortar store but as this location is close to me I will continue to frequent it. This is one of the handful of places I crave and eat it every 2 – 3 weeks without fail. The location is on the SW corner of Almeda and Old Spanish; this is confusing because there is another food truck in the parking lot of the gas station on the SE corner of that intersection. Cheap, delicious, and more than enough food for a meal.

DELICIOUS food. Fast service. Awkward location for me who likes four walls and chairs rather than a parking lot but after several recommendations I finally gave them a chance and I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the gyro more than the rice dishes. The combos are too big for me BUT make deliciously amazing leftovers!!!

When I looked up Gyro King on Unilocal,I thought it was a sit down restaurant, but its actually a food truck! It looks kind of sketchy since its right next to a gas station, but the food is definitely worth it. On this visit, I tried their combo platter, which was comprised of a variety of meats, including lamb and chicken. Gyro King definitely doesn’t skimp on the protein like other places. There was so more meat than rice in the platter. Anytime I am in the surrounding area, I will be sure to make another visit to Gyro King! I’m ready to try all of their wraps and platters!

Tastiness! Call ahead if you’re ordering falafels they do tend to run out of them at the end of the day. F type coming for the first time, It’s a big yellow truck at the corner of a gas station. They do prepare the food when you order so make sure you’re ready to wait for at least 15 mins if there’s no line. The boyfriend LOVED the amount of food you get for under 10 bucks and its true. I had enough food for dinner and lunch the next day. The food is absolutely falvorful! The lamb and chicken was a hit for my friends. You can also order ahead through grubhub.

I was told by a VA nurse to try this food truck that it has the best gyros… Boy oh boy, I’m glad she suggested it and now I’m hooked, lol . I placed my order online I was also told to do that or calling in instead of doing a walk up due to the busyness of the place. I do so and when I pulled up about 10 mins later, my food was hot and ready… I sat in the car and took a couple of bites to hold me until I got home but it did not make it, lol the gyro salad was that good. Just a warning the veggies that they have in the salad is pickled, and it adds a awesome flavor to it. So if you are not a fan ask them to hold off.

When I stepped out of the car, I didn’t even smell the usual wave of gasoline that comes with being at a gas station. I was so ready. This is in the Chevron gas station. There’s a Shell across the street so to clarify«it’s in a gas station parking lot,» it’s at the Chevron. There are a few parking spots right next to the truck as well as some closer to OST. I’ve seen people park at a gas pump, which I found to be rude. Like what if I was trying to pump gas and all the pumps were full of people ordering food and not pumping gas at all? I went on a Thursday at about 6 p.m. Traffic on OST was horrible coming from the Medical Center. Don’t come from that way during rush hour. There was about 5 people ahead of us that were either in line to order or waiting for their order. People came and went steadily while we were there. We ordered the lamb over rice and D juice. The juice was very refreshing and pretty tasty. As for the entrée, I thought it was good, not like Halal Guys, but still good. The amount of food was meh. I wish there was more(don’t we always). The veggies added a nice fresh aspect to the meal. All in all, I would come here again if I got the craving for it without question.

The chicken and lamb combo over rice is the bomb. Smother it in both sauces. Trust me you’ll be in ecstasy. On top of that service was quick. Definitely will be returning.

Loving this truck… used to go to Jones Fried Chicken… but it is so far out the way for me… this place is on my direct path home. Good thing about it being on a food truck is that your food is always so fresh unlike Jones’s is sitting out on buffet line and the rice seems a bit dry. Food here is so tasty, lamb, chicken, shrimp, fish(grilled or fried), falafel. I have tried them all thus far except the shrimp and falafel… though they are on my list. They also deliver which you don’t see many food trucks doing. This is a must try food truck and less expensive them so others I have seen.

Abstract Quick, cheap, and tasty food! Food type/taste We are a regular here and this is our go to place since we live in the apartment next to the gas station where the truck is located. Typical medetteranialn food truck options. They also sell vegetable and fruit juices. Their food is next best to NYC’s famous halal guys. Combo over rice is our all time favorite. Price Reasonably priced. Portion sizes of combos are especially worth the $. Negatives Waiting time can be up to 8 – 10 mins. Conclusion Best option for halal food in Houston.

I have been to Gyro King a few times since its close to my work(near the Medical Center). This food truck/trailer is located in the same parking lot as a gas station. But don’t let this fool you, its definitely worth a try if you have not been here. The food is fresh and service is great. I have only had the lamb gyros and lamb rice bowls. The white and spice sauces makes the dish even more amazing.

Wow this was great. I am honestly impressed with the quality and taste. I thought from a food truck it might be questionable, however, the food was outstanding. Def will be making another trip. Meat was well seasoned rice was tasty.

Nom nom nom! I love this place! I’ve been wanting to try this place out since forever! LAMBOVERRICE The lamb is flavorful and seasoned so well. I love that it tastes so fresh. I love the fresh greens and how the cucumber adds a refreshing taste and a crunch and the lettuce are so good. I only wish that there were onions, tomatoes, or some corn. I ordered and brought it home and added a whole container full of tomatoes to it. The dish was missing some acidity and the tomatoes were a great addition to it. Other than that, it was amazing! LAMBGYRO The lamb is so flavorful and I love that the gyro is filled with goodies and it’s not half empty or filled up only a little bit. It’s completely filled! Everything was perfect! Every bite had a mouthful of lamb, onions, and lettuce. It was so good! The service was amazing and very friendly. The guy told me the total was $ 16, but gave me a 50% discount because it was my first time there. He was very helpful and nice. I definitely will be coming back for sure. I just wish they were closer. It takes me about an hour to get here. I can’t wait to go back and eat some more.

I came back after a friend told me how much he loved this place. I wasn’t a fan originally because the portions were small and the meat was overly salty. I decided to give it one more try and I was so happy that I did. The portions are now overflowing and the meat is cooked and seasoned perfectly. I’ve already gone 5 times in a month and everyone I’ve taken there loves it. Summary: great portions, get extra white sauce, get the combo over rice!

I seriously love this truck! There aren’t a ton of options on this side of town, which makes me extra grateful for this crazy, flashing yellow truck at the corner of OST and Almeda. I’ve had all the gyros – lamb, chicken, falafel – and they are all really great! The falafels are made fresh every day and they taste great! The lamb is my Favorite though. I come here at least twice a week because it is so easy, fast and fresh. The guy who owns the truck is SO personable and friendly, I hope he starts to recognize me as a regular soon hahaha! Anyways, CALL and place your order now(they even have delivery, say what?!?) and you won’t regret it!

Wow… the moment you park, it smells like heaven. Food smells AMAZING even before eating it. Oh my goodness. One of my favorite comfort foods is lamb. Ever since I had me first gyro with lamb and tzaziki sauce, I knew from that very moment that this would be my all time favorite food to eat. I’ve been meaning to try Gyro King just because of the distance from home and work, as well as the raving reviews. For some reason, I never got the chance to try Gyro King until today. And I regret not eating food from Gyro Kind years ago. I called ahead so that I could just have food ready by the time I came. All the reviews talk about having to wait a while and you would have to call in advance. So I did that. I will repeat. The moment you drive up. You instantly smell amazing food coming from the food truck. I ordered 2 lamb over rice with extra sauce. When it came time to pay, the owner asked if I had cash. Unfortunately, I didn’t. He suggested that next time when I come, to pay in cash because if I were to pay with my credit card, I would get charged for taxes and extra fees. That was nice of him to suggest that. Now the food. FREAKINGAMAZING. OHMYGOD. The sauce. The chopped up lamb. The crispness of the cucumber and lettuce. The cooked basmati rice. So simple, yet so delicious. One box is enough to feed two. I bought one for my mom and I to eat for dinner and we were stuffed. We still have left over. I just found my new dinner spot after work.

Just following Daniel L.‘s lead in discovering delicious new dives around the Med Center. Two weeks ago it was Sleepy’s Po-Boys and this week it was Gyro King. Working in the Med Center, I get tired of the same old suggestions/recommendations… well except for Hungry’s. I don’t ever get tired of Hungry’s; albeit my wallet might. Anyway, back to Gyro King. Maybe there’s something about finding a new place you haven’t heard much about, or the inconspicuous nature of a food truck that tempers expectations. That’s typically a good thing, because it allows you to just appreciate the food with no preconceived notions. And Gyro King’s food is delicious. I don’t have a lot to compare it to, but it’s definitely better than Kebabalicious in Austin and the gyro itself might even be better than the one at Niko Niko’s. They do not cheat you. There’s plenty of lamb and a healthy dose of both red and white sauces accompanied by fresh lettuce, onions and cucumbers, the latter of which provide a nice acidity to off set heaviness of the lamb and the sauces. Service was friendly and fast. I’ll be back to try the mix over rice. [UPDATE]: Okay… so returned(less than a week later) to try the lamb over rice and force my co-workers to give the gyro a spin. I forgot about getting the mix, damnit. Doesn’t matter… delicious. So. Much. Food. Anyone who says this isn’t enough food needs to seriously check their daily calorie consumption. The included image is *after* I’d been eating for 5 – 7 minutes and I eat like a horse. Obviously I mixed my ‘salad’ in with the rest. Seriously love this place. This time they actually over charged me by a $ 1. I was going to let it slide, but between the time I ordered and the time they handed me my food they realized it and reimbursed me.
