RUDE!!! Even on the phone they are rude, they answer the phone like it is their personal line and give you major attitude when you ask them questions. Tracy in the meat department… send her back to customer service training.

If you thought it looked bad from the outside just wait til you go in…
Kids running around everywhere, bad lit lighting, and an unorganized floor plan. You automatically want to ask yourself «do I really want to buy groceries from here?» To be honest the entire store doesn’t feel clean so unless you are just buying frozen or packaged products, I wouldn’t recommend going.

This HEB has got to be THE worst of all HEB’S. If I wanted a regular run of the mill store, I would go to one in my area. I like to go to HEB because of the quality of meats, fruits, and veggies. And not to mention the specialty foods that the store actually makes. How do they not carry their own chicken salad? Anywho, the lines are constantly way too long, they feed into the aisles where customers are shopping and trying to get by. I come here when I need to pick some things up real quick and it is closest to my house. If you looking for a nice grocery shopping experience with quality variety, this is not it.

I just moved to Houston and late one night I decided to go to the closes HEB according to my phone map. As soon as I got there I felt very uncomfortable. The store looks run-​down and the type of people that shop there … I won’t come back here

Yea, I gave this HEB 5 stars because guess what? I remember when it wasn’t there! So, if you are in the area and need some food, this HEB is a basic grocery store. If you are comparing it to the one on Buffalo Speedway, your bad. That, it ain’t. But the people are always friendly and some even remember my face and I don’t even go there that often. They sell this sausage that I love and the Kosher HEB on Chimney Rock near my house doesn’t sell it. Is it ghetto? Yep. People buy 40s and all kinds of stuff. But they also sell bread, milk, lunch meat and RAMEN! All the stuff I needed when I was in Taub Hall (UH) hungry as heck because I used up my board card!

Like most have already said, this place is not the most comfortable place to do your grocery shopping. I’ve been here several times and the conditions never improve. I think that the store is too small for the crowd it attracts.
I’m not sure who is responsible for renovations, but they need to stop scraping pennies and invest in enlarging this store so it won’t see so crowded and dirty all the time.

It’s 9PM and your UH dorm student needs a trip to the grocery store. You google map grocery stores and break into a cold sweat seeing that the closest one is in pretty much Murder City, Texas. You could drive further and take a chance on being mugged in Montrose so Scott St. it is!
The HEB is small, has most of the basics, was NOT as bad as I thought based on the low reviews, maybe because I was looking for FOOD and not a reason to be OUTRAGED. My daughter found most of the basics that she was looking for: Poptarts, Kellog’s Breakfast drinks, peanut butter, 100% whole wheat bread, etc. They had Walker’s Scottie dog cookies, which I wasn’t expecting. I didn’t see the lace front wigs as noted in another review, sadly. There were a LOT of chips. Sure, a LOT of 40s too but I don’t buy beer so I dunno if that’s a normal selection at a grocery/​bodega/​corner store or what. I DO know that stores only stock what they can sell, so who am I to judge? I will add that I got less stares and questions in that store with my mermaid green hair and my daughter’s rainbow hair than I get in my local stores here in Pearland. No one pushed around me, no one blocked the aisles, no screaming kids, all of which I get in the brand new huge HEB in Pearland. Pick your poison, I guess?

Please, don’t go to this HEB unless you really have no other choice. I went here once because my local HEB didn’t have a certain football jersey in stock. Drove out of my way to check this place out. First of all, they don’t even have a clothing section. Matter of fact, their selection of everything was very limited. This HEB is incredibly outdated and GHETTO. Never, ever going back. You would think being located on a busy street (OST) that it would be a huge HEB with the amenities of the rest. Nope. Seriously, don’t go here.

This is comparably one of the worst HEB stores in Houston. It doesn’t have the amenities of the other local HEBs and that’s unfair to the people that choose to shop here. However, It does have a Frenchy’s on the inside. The employees and the music are nice, the seafood is fresh, and they have meat packages like the meat markets, but they should consider upgrading this store soon.

I hate this store! I am a long time Third Ward resident. I’m not highfalutin at all! First of all it is not organized. The music is always extremely loud. The service is slow. The store is lacking in products. And I question it’s cleanliness. I do believe a lot of the issues do not lie in the store itself but the fact that HEB corporate has decided that our community wants a story that is more representative of a corner store than a grocery store. I personally do not enjoy going there even if it’s just for the immediate things we all occasionally need. Why would you sell lace fronts and 40 ounces in a grocery store? Is that the opinion you have of your patrons HEB. So because I live in Third Ward does that mean I want my local store to be hood? I really think it’s time to step the game up. I am really tired of going to other stores such as the Montrose HEB or Whole Foods or Krogers. I actually might stop patronizing HEB all together until they upgrade my neighborhood store. The location is convenient, but is utterly ridiculous. It’s a terrible store and it doesn’t matter how short your visit maybe it is always a terrible experience as well.

Ghetto, ghetto, ghetto! Lines are always long with few cashiers. They only stock items the people in the neighborhood eat. Buffalo Speedway location is like going to the Taj Mahal-​everything is there. They allow beggers and homeless people to hang outside the store and the gas pumps. Store is not too clean. Pumps are supposed to open at 7 AM, but the cashiers are mostly late and give you attitude when you say something. Please… go elsewhere.

This is the worst H-​E-​B I’ve ever been in. I live right down the street and I will drive 10 miles out of the way to go to another store. The people who work there are friendly but the selection is TERRIBLE and half of the store is a cell phone store. Not to mention it’s dirty.
I really wish they would remodel this store.

OK, I live near this store, and have shopped here many, many times. The negative reviews of this store on here are primarily from a bunch of snotty college kids from the suburbs (including one who openly stated that they have friends who make obnoxious comments that insult people who don’t make as much money as their overpaid mommies and daddies). I have walked across the parking lot many times, and have never been panhandled (and I get panhandled a LOT, in many places in this city), nor have I ever been nearly run-​over (probably because I was paying attention to where I was going). I have eaten from the Frenchy’s inside, and the food was just fine. I’ve shopped in all the sections — never had a problem with any of the products, including the meat or produce. Prices are pretty reasonable, and sometimes a real bargain. The store personnel are usually friendly and polite, but they don’t kiss your butt and do a big song and dance (which is apparently what these spoiled rich brats expect, and when they don’t get it, they throw a temper tantrum in the form of a negative Unilocal review).
Now, yes, this store is located in the Third Ward, which, if you’re not aware, is a historically African American (i.e., Black) part of town. Yes, folks, there are a lot of Black people who work at and shop at this store and the other businesses that surround it. Shocking, I know, but it’s true. Now, if you’re a white supremacist, and have problems with shopping near Black people, or if you’re racially naïve, and are unfamiliar with Black people, you may be frightened to shop here, but unfortunately for you, that is not the store’s responsibility, it’s YOURS. Likewise if the prospect of shopping in a store that is not considered «upscale» and does not cater to lofty European tastes or annual incomes that exceed $ 60k a year upsets you or engenders a crinkled nose on your visage. If that describes you, please, by all means, feel free to drive across town and shop at a more expensive store that placates your Eurocentric tastes and/​or class biases. (After all, you have the money; go to Whole Foods or Rice Epicurean or Central Market if you’re a supermarket snob.) The rest of us NORMAL, WORKING people can shop at this store in peace and quiet and not be bothered with your whining.
Now, for the store itself — it’s a fairly decent HEB store, compared to other HEB stores. Not as big as some, and the inventory isn’t as vast as some of the bigger HEB stores, but a good chunk of supermarket basics can be found here, and occasionally some specialty items as well. If there’s something in particular you’re looking for that’s not that well-​distributed, you might not find it here (but then again you might! Never know!), but for most standard food items, you should be able to choose from a variety here. The store is clean and bright, and very well stocked (and they stock frequently). Weekends are BUSY though, so the best time of the week to go is mid-​week. And don’t be afraid to ask for something if you can’t find it — they’re glad to order it for you.

This HEB is not as horrible as the other reviews make it. The store is definitely not filthy, but I wouldn’t consider buying anything from the in-​store Frenchy’s (so-​called). The customers are courteous, the staff is usually friendly, and the prices are low. The store has a decent vegetable and meat selection as well. The only real compliant is that they don’t carry too many healthy products – so save those items for the snobby stores.

I went to this HEB once when I first moved to Houston. Never went back. The other reviews on here pretty much sum it up.

On my first trip here, a customer warned me about a rat she had just seen scurry under the shelves.
It would almost be superfluous to mention the limp produce, the poor selection, and the thin coating of grime on every shelf. And the meat case? I will be vegetarian as long as I have to shop at this store.
As a bonus, I was nearly run over in the parking lot.

Living near UH my grocery store choices are limited. From a distance this looks like a nice, relatively new, HEB. While parking was plentiful, so was the disappointment. You would think in this less affluent area of town prices would be lower, not higher than other stores. Selection was ok… but I suggest going to the HEB on I-​45 south or the Kroger north of I-​45 on Scott. Both seem safer, have better selections, and better prices.
My friend who was with me said «It kinda smells like poor people.»

This HEB is the bane of my existence. When I first moved to Houston, I shopped here because it was close to my apartment. After less than a month, I decided I’d rather drive across town to the Randall’s on Holcombe than step foot in this store. Here’s an example of my typical trip to HEB:
I step foot out of my car, and am immediately hit up for change by a bum who is standing way too close to me and my car. I tell the bum I have no change, and proceed across the parking lot, where I usually come close to being run down by some random jerk. I go inside the store, and am ignored by the guy or girl who is posted up at the entrance to greet customers. While I’m trying to shop, I constantly weave in between people who are too rude to move for me. I finally finish shopping after squeezing by the mob of people who are standing at the fake jewelry/​prepaid cell phone booth, and go stand in line to pay for my groceries. 9 times out of 10, this clerk will either completely ignore me, never looking up to acknowledge me while they scan my groceries, or they’re really rude. I even go so far as to smile and say «Hi!» first, and I still get nothing. As I leave, it never fails that the same bum is waiting outside to groan about how I just bought groceries and won’t cough up some change.
The only time I EVER come here anymore is if I just need to get some milk or eggs or something, because it’s really not worth it to me to drive a long way just for one or two things. I always try to get out as fast as I can, though.
