Hail-A-Cab

The app more or less works okay, although I have had a few misfires.

I used the Hail a Cab Houston app to reserve a taxi to the airport for the following morning. I could see my driver’s location in the app as he approached, and I got a text when he was nearby. He showed up a couple of minutes early and didn’t mind waiting. The cab was clean, owned by an independent driver. The driver was courteous. It was a very pleasant experience.
I love not having to deal with a harried dispatcher over the phone, who leaves me wondering whether they entered my info correctly. As far as I can tell, this app provides the same benefits as Über. And the service is actually better than Über in some ways: it lets you request immediate pickup or reserve a ride at a time in the future (Über only supports immediate pickup), and there’s no nonsense with surprises in cost due to surge pricing. It seems that the traditional cab companies have really stepped up their game here.

I am being responsible and calling a cab after I’m done.drinking. I have literally been sitting outside this bar for an hour. I have to pee and I may have had one too many. This is ridiculous! I have gotten like six calls about this order! I literally live two miles away! Wtf! I’m frustrated, tired, and I am becoming impatient!

I had a very, very good experience today. It was my first time to use HailACabHouston. I ordered my cab to the Medical Center using the app a couple of days before I was due to travel. I received a confirmation e-​mail, including a PIN to use because I elected to use my credit card to pay my fare. The transaction takes place only upon the cabby entering this random PIN. My cabby was so nice and personable, and his cab was shiny and clean. When I was finished, I hailed another cab, using the app. I received my confirmation e-​mail immediately, including my PIN. This app is so easy to use. And I appreciate being able to track my cab, know how soon he will pick me up, and know the car number to look for. Again, my driver was very personable and drove a clean car. Two thumbs up today!

I have used Hail-​A-​Cab in both Houston and Austin for regular evenings out as well as high volume events such as the Houston Rodeo and Austin City Limits, and have found it simple, efficient, reliable and easy to use. More importantly, the cabs that I «hail» to generally arrive timely and clean with courteous drivers. No matter if I am requesting a pick up at a business location or residential neighborhood, the results are consistent for the most part. Also, the registration process is simple and quick (took less than 10 seconds for me) and using the application itself is just as simple. No more long wait times trying to call in to dispatch! I recommend this application, especially for busy professionals and attendees of big events.
