I was a customer for 14 years until the owner, Declan Plunkett, was really rude to me over a comment i made on Facebook about the vaping policy. He chewed me out and was quite rude about it. They do occasionally violate the Houston smoking policy by allowing fumes from cigarettes to get inside the bar. The bartenders are good. The beer selection is not up to Houston standards. They can have good drink specials. If you are a person who is sensitive to tobacco smoke or strong vaping fumes, you may want to try someplace else because the indoor air quality can be really poor. An actual quote from Declan during our discussion: «Do you think you can just post like that and there will be no consequences? That you can just walk back in here?» So, owner is not good with customer service.

The Harp has great bartenders and now a fantastic Steak night on Monday and Thursday the steak is good the pork chops are the best I have had in a very long time. It has a nice outdoor patio. They have a ping pong table as well. it is a little creaky and divey but, hello it is a bar. We like a dive occasionally. I miss John doing trivia his questions and wit were amazing. Chelsea and Paul will make you any drink you like and are smart, caring and fun. Decent parking too with a lot in front and one behind west of the Farmers insurance building.

Excellent atmosphere, cheap beer, and every one there is friendly, from the staff to the patrons. Everything an irish pub should be. Steak night is some of the best food available in the area which really says something.

Been going here for years. Was one of my regular stomping grounds when at University of St. Thomas and still finds its way into my life. Trivia, darts, pingpong, and some generic video bar games. Not the most diverse group of people mostly college kids, hipsters, and white collar college grads(not that that’s a bad group of folks).

Love this bar! Divey broken in Irish pub feel. Friendly regulars and bar staff with internet radio, ping pong, nice out door seating, video games, beer specials, steak night, and reasonably priced drinks. What’s not to love?

Used to really enjoy this place, until the day I was told by an employee that I don’t tip enough, even though I never tip below 10% and regularly tip as much as 20%. Its enough to make one never want to tip again. And I have never been back since.

in door out door seating. nothing pretentious. I hear thru juke box is awesome for an 80s gal like me. as far as bars go; this is definitely more my spend than a place like la grange. #seentobeseen

Came here on a Thursday for steak night(during the GSW vs Cavs game). They have ample parking in front of the building, and in a lot nearby. The place seems a bit smaller than I imagined, given how much parking space they have. The interior was dark, as expected of a bar. However, there appeared to be an inebriated guy at the bar. I wasn’t a fan of the interior nor the people inside. The outside patio area was a great place for steak night. We were fortunate that Houston’s weather that afternoon was quite pleasant. No mosquitos or anything bothered us in the area. There were a couple of ceiling fans and plenty of seating. Plenty of people smoked outside on the patio, but since there was so much space, it didn’t bother any non-smokers. The guy who cooked/served the steaks was pretty friendly. It’s $ 16 for a rib-eye and some jalepeno mashed potatoes, cash only. He takes your order by the tent he’s cooking from and brings the food out to you in a timely manner. The rib-eye was cooked how I liked it, and the mashed potatoes were unique as I haven’t tasted some like that before. I’ve gotten more food for $ 16 from other steak night bars before and I didn’t like how it was cash only. You have to go inside to get drinks since nobody outside seemed to serve you so steak night was a separate event from the actual bar. Service in that sense was divided and not done well. Overall, I’d go back for steak night(Mondays and Thursdays). They also have a porkchop for $ 12, and lamb for $ 16 so I’ll probably come back to try those another night.

Good chilled spot. Never crazy busy which is convenient. Great place to hang out and talk, not party and get wild. I’m sure that option Is available though :)

Cool little bar out of a converted house in the Montrose area. Patrons are mostly aged hipster regulars. They have a ping pong table which makes this bar unique but you may also fall victim to errant shots flying across the room. Limited tap selections but they have a good selection of bottled beers plus specials depending on the night. The bartenders were knowledgeable and mixed a stiff drink. The only serious flaw is the limited parking of the bar lot but you can also park in an alternative lot a couple of addresses west.

Simple casual bar. The bar is just that, a bar, but it is probably one of the best casual neighborhood bars I’ve been to. Irish themed, great prices on drinks, pool, darts, etc. Just a good atmosphere. Looking for a happy hour after work? Not into the stuffy business bars, or the pretentious designer bars? This is definitely a place for you. Plus there are some great places in the surrounding area for some great food after.

Last October, I went there and I was given a beer on the rocks. I asked for a non-iced beer and was refused. I wrote a review on facebook and the owner trolled me calling me a dumbass. They are ran by nasty people and I hope they get bulldozed for condos.

I’ve been to the Harp several times. It’s nothing to write home about, but if it’s convenient to your location, it’s a decent dive bar. On nice days, definitely sit outside. The inside always kind of smells like bathroom cleaner to me. But there’s pretty ample seating, both inside and out. They have a trivia night. The bartenders are nice enough. Beer selection is ok. Like I said, I wouldn’t go out of my way to go to the Harp, but if I’m in Montrose and a friend wants to meet there, I’m dine with it.

A dandy little place. I love the atmosphere and the beer selection is top notch. PLUS I have known the owner since he first arrived in Houston back in the 80s. Several years ago I was there with friends and I was recognized by some of his friends. I had not seen Dek since the 80s. He came up there and we were able to catch up. How very cool that was. I love the outside patio. NIce and spacious. There is a parking lot but it can get filled. It is located in Montrose so parking is always a premium. If you want to kick back with some pals in an interesting bar, I recommend going here not just because I know Dek – really. The place has a warmth to it that is not often found.

We came here like 20 minutes after they opened on a Saturday. There was one other customer who was sitting outside. We sat inside and the décor is very dive bar-like but with an UK twist to it. Lots of seating, including couches and arm chairs. They do have games such as ping pong and video games. The bartender was very cool and helpful. He came by to check on us and was chatting with other customers as they came rolling in. I’m not sure how this place is later at night, but we’re willing to give it another try.

The Harp is still a great neighborhood bar. Friendly service, good beers on tap, nice covered patio. Tuesday is trivia night, Wednesday is for their competitie dart leagues… They’re open 365 days a year: «Even when it floods» as their website says(which is true … I hung out there during Ike). However, I don’t see myself going back for St. Paddy’s Day. It’s just not worth it. There was a $ 5 cash cover, and the ATM inside charges a $ 5 service fee … so that was $ 10 just to go in to buy more drinks, listen to a playlist(no live music) and have access to some food and beer vendors. My friend went the night before and said they were charging a $ 10 cover, but there was live music. It’s still a nice little local spot, but if they’re going to continue to promote a St. Paddy’s party with a cover, there should be some sort of return on that — live music all day, entertainers, drink specials, good food vendors…
