I never write Unilocal reviews. I created an account solely to review my experience today. I arrived before about 20 minutes before closing because I had just left work. When I walked in they immediately said«Can you come back tomorrow? «I said«no». They told that it was too late to assist me. Not once did they ask what I needed done. It could have been as simple as eyebrows or a quick polish change. Instead they turned me away. It was extremely rude. I moved across the street so I planned to give them my bi-monthly business. I’m completely turned off by this place. They should say that they do not accept walk-ins after a certain time.

Been coming here for 2 – 3 years. Very nice clean. The lady’s always nice. Been very happy. I try and get Tina. Also get my eyebrows. Being a guy, you don’t get all the stairs like some other salons.

I usually refrain from giving bad reviews. But this place is horrible. The staff is so rude. I went for a pedicure and nail extension. Firstly they were shouting from inside to ask what I wanted to get done, so I had to shout back an answer and assume they understood me. ZERO courtesy. Then the lady doing my pedicure said they don’t have time to do nail extensions and I should get a shellac done. I was like what??? Y didn’t you tell me before and hellooo you cannot order me. Her tone was so rude! I told them politely I would not like any services if they treat their customers this way. She started to shout back at me in front of all the people! The pedicure was half heartedly done by her and she was continuously complaining to the guy next to her in their own language the whole time. The whole experience was horrible. They ruined a good Friday evening for me. I am NEVER ever going back and there are so many other nail parlors with a much much better service.

It was alright. My feet looked good when I left but the salon is fairly dirty & the staff was sort of loud & obnoxious… trying to get customers involved in inside jokes. The guy who did my nails was cool because he didn’t talk too much but they were all different shapes which I consider a miracle since I have incredibly short, natural nails that grown naturally into a rounded off shape. The prices were decent… maybe a little steep for the quality and ambiance. Overall, an average place but I won’t be back as there are too many salons in Houston to return to a place that’s just alright.

I moved to Houston 3 years ago and have been coming here since! Not once have I had a bad experience and I come twice a month. Ask for Kim for a pedi and Tina for your mani! They are amazing and so friendly ! I recommend a appt only because sometimes they are a little busy!

Love this place! The first nail salon in Houston I have found that does an acrylic fill/color change the way that I’m used to. For some reason a lot of salons I go to the nails will start lifting and falling off within a week. Here they last the full two weeks until I’m ready for a fill, sometimes even three. David is great! Good customer service and quality work at a reasonable price

I’ve been coming to this salon for many years. Kim takes her time doing my nails and makes sure I’m satisfied with her work. Love her! Appointments are not required, but I suggest you call if you mind waiting. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and good nail polish selection.

This was a trial run since I’m switching salons after my terrible experience at Bunker Hill. They do fall into the stereotypical Asian staffed salons — but all in all they were very nice and efficient They work quickly so if you want pampering and the full upscale service this isn’t your salon. Vee(??) did my toes and someone else did my nails with the shellac. Both did a great job. I chose French for toes and nails and my total came to $ 65 without tip. I tipped 20% since they didn’t make me cry(see Bunker Hill review) I’ll go back– nice ladies and good work. Deducted one star because its only my first visit and I’m stingy with 5 star reviews.

For 25 years I had acrylics nails and never had any problems with them. Unfortunately, the year I spent living in Hawaii just about did them in. Since I couldn’t find a decent manicurist, I decided to remove the acrylic. That was about 4 months ago. My nails are now healthy enough(meaning they don’t split as easily), to get a manicure in preparation of my daughter’s wedding later this week. The manicure I received yesterday was so good that I decided to go back today for a pedicure… which I hadn’t had done in at least 6 months. With nail salons on every corner it seems, I chose this place because it is next to the hair salon that I’ve been going to. I’m glad I did. I will definitely return. $ 30 for a mani/pedi is a pretty good deal… and after 9 mani/pedis, the 10th is free :-)

35 $ deluxe pedicure is awesome with hot wax and hot stones. David gave me a little bite of an arguement about painting my tips white and brown because my nails are uneven, but oh well do what the customer wants. Still love this place. Free wifi too.

I’ve been to Hollywood Nails a couple of times and had no problems with the place until my last experience. I went there 2 weeks ago and lady who did my nails did an OK job but she cut my right middle finger. I didn’t say anything because it wasn’t a big cut even though a little blood came out. I NEVER thought that my finger would get infected because of this! It’s now all swollen and red and it really hurts. I went to the doctor and it turns out that I have to take antibiotics for 10 days. I may even need to get an incision done on my finger to get all the pus out! This just tells me how dirty this place is, they obviously DON’T clean their tools. I never write reviews and always think 10 times before giving a place a bad review but I think it is VERYVERY important that all of you out there who are thinking about getting your nails done, please find a clean place to go to instead. Having a infected finger is just not fun! DON’T GOTHERE!!!

I’ve been going here for years and always call ahead to ask for David. He is my favorite and the mani/pedi always lasts a long time after he does it. He is very thorough, professional and efficient. They could improve by freshening up the inside of the salon — it looks a little tired. They do a great job with waxing.

UPDATE5.27.2008 After two moves put me progressively farther away from Hollywood Nails, I changed salons. I was in the neighborhood recently, and needing a pedicure and manicure, decided to stop by for old times sake. At first glance, everything seemed as it was the last time I was there(certainly more than a year ago, possibly closer to two.) Although I didn’t recognize the man at the reception area, I let him know that I needed a pedicure, manicure and eyebrow wax, and inquired about Tina, who was usually there. That’s when things started to go downhill. He told me that Tina had sold the shop so it was now under new management. For a moment, I seriously considered going somewhere else but decided to stay as I did rather desperately need a pedicure. While waiting, I asked the fellow about notice they used to display prominently in the checkout area — the one that stated they’d never had less than a 100% on any health inspection. He either didn’t understand me, didn’t know about it, or didn’t want to answer, directing my attention to their occupancy license. That’s when I started to feel a bit uneasy. In my former review of Hollywood nails, I pointed out that I’m a former healthcare worker so I’m a bit OCD about cleanliness.(Actually, I’m more CDO — it’s like OCD but it’s arranged in alphabetical order.) In any case, while sitting in the spa chair, I started to notice that the place was very dusty, and that there were a couple of places behind the chairs that looked as if plumbing repairs had been made but not covered over. Plumber’s foam was obvious, and frankly, kind of yucky. I was hoping that this inattention to detail didn’t carry over into their work. I was to be disappointed. The pedicurist was clearly phoning it in — spending very little time shaping the nails, cleaning them, or even exfoliating. The manicure was performed in the same lackluster manner — no two of my nails were even filed in the same shape. For that matter, my eyebrows aren’t the same shape, either. Definitely take a pass on this place. I have been a customer of Hollywood Nails for three years, and the cleanliness, ambiance, and value can’t be beat. As a former medical worker, sanitation is key concern of mine, and Hollywood Nails strict adherence to sterilization procedures was the primary attraction for me. Fresh tools are used each time(they remove them from a sealed package) and each time I’ve passed the autoclaves on the way to the waxing area, the machines have been whirring away. I’ve also had many opportunities to watch them sanitize their foot baths and manicure/pedicure areas, and each time they’re efficient and thorough.(It is worth noting that Hollywood Nails has recently begun displaying a notice to customers that they’ve never received less than a 100% on their health inspection.) If you go for a pedicure and manicure, or just a pedicure, your service will be done in the spa chair, I highly recommend this! As new age music plays softly overhead, the chair kneads the stiff and tired from your muscles, and the warm water jets pulse against your feet. Heaven! The manicures/pedicures are thorough, but it depends on who you get as to how thorough. Most of the time they don’t spend a lot of effort on making sure the heels/outside of the feet are smoothed, however, the cuticle shaping/nipping and polish are almost always perfect. Eyebrow waxing is performed with such flair that any Hollywood starlet would be pleased with the results. The lady that usually provides this service has a real gift.(I once took off half my eyebrow trying to do it myself, so believe me when I tell you how much I appreciate her talent.) The waxing won’t be painless, but the results are worth it. Prices are competitive, or just below, other nail salons, with a manicure/pedicure combo running $ 25 at the time of this writing. Appointments are accepted, and cash and credit cards are preferred.
