Going on 3 years at HBJJ and still very satisfied with my training. In my MMA class Art is a great and patient instructor who takes the time to teach maneuvers but also explains why they are beneficial. So I not only have a great workout but I’m also taught self defense maneuvers that I personally feel as a woman is very important to know. And when training with Art you’re guaranteed to never get bored of repetitive routines like other gyms.

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably spending a fair amount of time trying to decide on the right BJJ/​MMA gym for you. After trying out a couple of other gyms in the area, I paid HBJJC a visit at the recommendation of a good friend and I’m so glad I did.
What makes this place unique amongst the myriad of other martial arts gyms in the area? Firstly, like the website says it’s Professor Art himself. Art is a very effective instructor who will not only demonstrate movements in an easy to understand manner but will diligently work with you to make sure you get EVERY detail right in your execution. He has excellent control over his classes and always ensures that students train hard, but safe. He also has a wonderful, genuine personality that will keep you engaged every class. His stories about the Gracie Academy in Torrance and his time training there are awesome.
Secondly, this gym is full of wonderful folks with no egos who really want to help you learn. I felt welcome immediately.
The gym is always clean, the loaner supplies (gloves, mitts, etc) are in good condition, and the large mirrors are nice when you’re trying to see if you’re doing a technique correctly (or just want to see if something is stuck in your teeth).
