The food was very good(probably five stars). Had the hubcap burger and fries. Now the reasons i gave three stars. 1. Place us very small and not particularly clean. 1a. Tables were never cleaned or bussed by staff. 2. Long wait to order, over 15 minutes, and over 30 minutes for food. It was 1245 on a Friday. 3. No fountain drinks or water. Can and bottled drinks only, including water. 4. Cash only. So it’s great if the venue was better, but it’s tough to pay the price they are asking just for the food. There are other places in the area just as good that have an overall better offering. That being said, their business is booming, so things probably won’t change. Might go again sometime, but definitely not during normal lunch hours.

I’ve made the trip here on multiple occasions and I’m not sure why but this place is always closed early. My co-workers and have grown bored with making a blank trip while we’re starving. This was my last attempt I guess we’ll never know what the food here is like. You guys should honor your posted hours

This place has been voted one of the best burger spots in Houston and it did not disappoint! I got a standard cheeseburger and the patties were juicy and not overcooked. The only thing I didn’t like as much was the bread… there was a lot of it and it didn’t seem toasted or anything. Oh yeah, this place is cash only!

Heard great things about this place before trying it and I have to say I was not disappointed. It’s a small place but we arrived early enough to find a table inside for our party of 4. It’s cash only so be prepared(they do have an ATM just in case though). I ordered the jalepeno cheeseburger and a side of fries. The portions were great and you definitely get great value for the money spent. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the crust on the meat was excellent! Each bite of the burger was as juicy and tasty as the first. The fries were also excellent and came with some sort of cajun seasoning on top(a friend in the group got the cheese fries which he thought was okay because the cheese sauce tasted like that from a can, so an fyi there). All in all its a great place. I wish it were open on the weekend so I could bring out of towners to it but I guess I’ll just enjoy it on my own.

Totally underwhelming. Maybe the B or C Team was on duty when I came. My burger wasn’t that bad, and certainly was better than McDonald’s. But I’ve seriously had better burgers at Whataburger. Mine was dry, a bit over cooked, and had hardly any fixings on it. The fries weren’t much better, as they were very bland and virtually tasteless. There’s plenty better places to eat downtown than this place.

This place makes large 7 – 9 dollar burgers extra for fries and drinks. The burger was delicious and fries are good too. But probably won’t go back bc of hrs and priced too much for what it is.

As a burger lover, I had been wanting to try this place for the longest time and was finally able to try it during black Friday. The place was small and being in downtown, it did not have its own parking. However, downtown seemed to be pretty much deserted that day and so we were able to park right accross. Again, it is very small, so there is not much walking room. I understand that it is their first location, but it can be tidied up a bit. It looked a bit dirty in my opinion. But that didn’t stop us from ordering their burgers. I had a plain cheeseburger and my friend had the bacon cheeseburger. We both shared chili cheese fries. We sat on the outside tables and we’re brought the food within 20 minutes. The bread was dry, but the meat was good. Whatever dressing/spices they use, it was good. The chili cheese fried were good too, but we couldn’t finish them. Overall, the burgers were OK.(Casarez Mexican Burgers are still the best in my opinion, so if you are a burger lover I suggest you try those). I probably won’t be having Hubcap Grill again.

When Stanton’s was unexpectedly closed on a Saturday, this downtown dive was the nearest substitution. Perhaps it doesn’t have the same Unilocal hype, but it’s still Zagat rated and makes a good burger. They have interesting variations, Philly Cheese Steak and Cheeto Burgers for example. The patty is thick(hand-formed) and the fries are hand-cut(floppy). If you want a specialty burger, fries, and a drink you’ll easily clear $ 10. Seating is limited, especially if you don’t want to eat outdoors, and it’s cash-only, though there’s an ATM on-site. Drinks come in cans or bottles.

I’ve heard a lot about this place and finally tried their burger. I’m happy to report that it did not disappoint. The cheese was melty and gooey, and it’s probably the perfect burger after a long night.

After several years as a customer, Hubcap Grill still ranks for me as one of the top burgers in the city. Quality is consistent. Fresh ground beef, hand-formed thick patties, seasoned and seared to perfect crispiness on a hot flattop. Fresh ingredients, locally-sourced fresh buns to top it off. Hand-cut fries, fried twice as they should be. Downtown location is cash only, be prepared. Pro tip: Arrive early, about 11:00 to 11:30, or wait until after 1:30 to avoid a long line and wait.

I have been wanting to try this joint for a while and I am very glad I stopped in there today. The place is a small«hole in the wall» type of restaurant but their food is PACKED with flavor. I ordered the regular cheeseburger to get an idea of what their burgers are like — this burger was big, juicy, flavorful, and all around mouth watering goodness. The homemade fries were a great addition to my lunch. I am looking forward to going back and trying some of the specialty burgers. This place is a MUSTGOTO while in the downtown area

Cash only or not, if you put the Philly Cheesesteak burger on the top of your head your tongue would beat your brains out trying to get to it. Damn, that’s a mighty tasty burger. Nice little hole in the wall(with literal holes in the wall.) My new favorite burger place in Houston.

Cash only, hole in the wall, burger joint. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger: hand formed, fresh, ground beef, two thick slices of bacon, fresh bun, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo. It was hot and sloppy and big and juicy! This dive is really small and has limited seating and is only opened from 11−3pm. Don’t let the size of this place deter you though; the burgers are delicious!

Meh. Extremely small and hot. Small selection of options. French fries were. hand cut but seem broken and bottom of the bag. Burgers not season well. We were told there was no ice for drinks.

The place is tiny, only takes cash and have no fountain machine for drinks. We had the Philly cheese steak burger and hubcab decker and I gotta say what stood out to me the most was the buns and the flavor from the patties. The buns were simple but fluffy and soft while the patties were a bit crispy on the outside packed with flavor. They were pretty salty too, but that didn’t stop me from eating my burger and half of my wife’s burger. Who would’ve thought a burger and Philly cheese steak would work? They make it work! They don’t make my top 3 favorite burgers but my goodness the smell the place emits has to be the most appetizing smell of all the burger joints.

Solid burger in downtown near the courthouse. The line can be long at times and it is cash only. Food came out surprisingly slowly but was piping hot and quite good. A bit overpriced, but to be expected in downtown. The quadruple heart clogger with bacon, a hot dog, chili and cheese is a must try!

Looking for a good burger, I came across the Hubcap on Unilocal.Reviews sounded right up my alley and it was a short walk from my hotel. Let me tell you, I would have hiked a mile uphill for this burger and fries! Fresh meat, bakery style soft bun, fresh cut skin-on fries with season salt. All served with a side of catsup. Yes, it is a tiny place and seating is limited. Yes, you will have to wait in line if you get there 12 – 1. Yes, cash only. YES it is all worth it! If you want a convenient lunch, stick to McDonald’s. If you want a great lunch, it’s here waiting. This is old school eating at its best. Thank you fellow Unilocalers for guiding me home.

First thing you need to bring is CASH! Second is an appetite! What a great burger! We made this trip after seeing this place on TV. Well worth the trip. This place is a tiny hole in the wall. The kind of place that serves great burgers with grease dripping down your fingertips and delicious fries. Hubcap is about the size of this burger. I can eat a burger and ordered the half pounder. This was honestly a true half pound and one that filled me up. You got to try this place!

Tip: bring cash! It’s a good, greasy burger place: a hole-in-the-wall, but they make solid burgers AND fries quickly. A good spot, especially considering most other downtown restaurants are closed on Saturdays.

Hubcap has been on my Unilocal bookmarks for an eternity, even though I work 5 minutes from this location. The restaurant is much smaller than I’d anticipated. A few tables inside, and a few more on the back patio. I FINALLY got to try the famous Sticky burger. I love sweet and savory combinations, so this really hit the spot. The strips of bacon tasted so good with peanut butter– I may start eating them together at breakfast from now on. I requested lettuce and tomatoes on my burger, and the cashier lady tried to convince me not to. She was right– total clash of flavors. After I removed the extra toppings, I was good to go. I still ate them on the side though(I don’t eat enough veggies as it is). My friend wolfed down his Chili cheese burger, and the sweet potato fries are indeed worth ordering. The burgers are really big, at least for me. At ~$ 7, they’re a steal. I’m totally sold on this place.
