To know me is to know I LOVE sushi! IC has some good points; I like the closed off private little booths though I did feel a bit claustrophobic in the beginning. The service was attentive. We had a coupon from their website *score* The lunch sushi just wasn’t all that great. The salad dressing or whatever you wanna call it was kind gross, looked a bit like vomit. I wish I remembered the name of the roll I ordered with the lunch pick a roll + sashimi but not good. I didn’t like the rice, didn’t understand the smidgen of an orange that was in my box. Didn’t like the grey skin on my salmon sashimi… Just too much wrong with the actual food… I’m not likely to return but I wouldn’t stop anyone from going to try it out. Maybe it’s better when it’s not lunch.

Not sure if they usually have 1 sushi chef only working, but that just meant waiting a good while for our rolls. There was only 1 waiter also so he was running around everywhere. The food was great though, but I had to deduct some stars due to the wait. All day happy hour on Sundays! I got the King Salmon Roll, Black Pearl and Seaweed Salad. Decent sized rolls and it’s awesome how they have a great selection of rolls on their HH menu. My sister got the Dinosaur Roll and that looked good since it was fried. Lol. I was pretty stuffed at the end. Always a good ending, but a very unfortunate wait. :)

Iron Chef is now under new management but quality of sushi is still just as good. They offer more on the Happy Hour menu albeit the increase in price… the sushi is still the same. Service is a bit better too. I like they have all day Sunday Happy Hour!

My wife and I go and eat sushi several times a year. She is a sushi fan, but I prefer the beginner bento box(sprinkled with a couple california rolls). The food is always tasty and the sushi is fresh. Definitely stop by and give them a try.

When I first came here, service was eh but the sushi was great. Despite the poor service, the place easily became one of my favorite sushi places. I don’t get to go often BC it’s in the opposite side of town from me. Last I went quality has gone down. Severely. Presentation is sloppy, rice was falling apart and it doesn’t taste as fresh and delicious anymore. It’s unfortunate that this place doesn’t live up to it’s greatness anymore.

This is place is okay. The sushi rolls are huge making it hard to eat. The food is good but I recently had much better. The waitress told me I was picking the sushi piece from the wrong end and that’s okay, but it’s seemed like she was doing it every time she brought a plate. Okay already, I get it.

Having recently moved into the neighborhood, my husband and I tried Iron Chef Sushi for our anniversary, hoping to find a new regular spot for sushi. We were disappointed, though not entirely. Happy hour sushi rolls are incredibly inexpensive, and definitely a good value, as is the ‘buy one get one free’ house sake. Unfortunately, it seemed like the oil used to fry the shrimp tempura and tempura flakes used in our rolls was burnt, as it had a very charred and bitter flavor. As other reviewers have mentioned, the rolls weren’t very tight, which made them very hard to eat. The sauces and ingredients used, in general, were very good and fresh, and the black pearl roll in particular was(other than the burnt tempura flakes) delicious. The service was… interesting. The single waitress/hostess/cashier was brusque and unfriendly to start with, though she brought everything in a timely manner and checked with us at the right times. The original plates we were given were smeared & greasy and the server glared at us when we requested clean ones. She miraculously became gregarious and chatty… right when it was time to pay the check. She did bring us a complimentary fried banana dessert to celebrate our anniversary, which was very cool. In general… we will try other sushi restaurants in the area before returning, but haven’t written Iron Chef Sushi off entirely yet — they’ll get another chance before that. I hope the chef has changed his oil by then…

I’m slowly working my way through the non-sushi items in an effort to find something there. So far, I got nothing. The Happy Hour sushi special, on the other hand, is a great deal on great sushi. Beware: don’t try and order 3 – 4 rolls because you think you«can handle it». The portions are huge. Order 1, maybe 2, tops, and you won’t be near stomach combustion at the end of your meal. The service is a little spotty at first since there is only 1 waittress working the floor and the cashier station. She can be a little gruff but she means love. After 1 visit, she will remember your drink order as well as the company you are there to meet. On your 3rd visit, you may get a free dessert.

* Funny smell when you walk in… kinda musty, but mostly in the hot months. * Decore is interesting. * Service is friendly, good. I have heard the waitress can get moody. * Sushi taste is pretty good and portion size is HUGE. * My only complaint is that since the portions are very good, the rolls fall apart. They are not tight and the rice falls off… makes for difficult eating. Kinda looks like a 2yr old rolled them. But the quality makes it fairly easy to overlook this.

Yes, they have huge portions. Yes, they have a good happy hour. Yes, the sushi is fresh. The most important element of sushi, for me, is the roll itself. The roll is supposed to be tight, like one solid piece but here the rolls fall apart as if they were made by someone behind a Randall’s counter who knows nothing about sushi. What’s the point of ordering something if you can’t even eat it because it falls apart in your lap? I will say this, the staff was really friendly but that doesn’t hold the roll together.

We love coming here when visiting family since we don’t live in the area. Great employees, great prices, and generous portions. Even our pickiest of eaters like coming here. My favorite roll is the simple avocado roll and my husband like the spicy crawfish roll. The tempura shrimp is flavorful, as is the chicken teriyaki.

We’ve been going to Iron Chef for several years. We recently stopped going due to change management. The rolls are okay, nothing too great. The service is so-so. They used to be very good and friendly. Now that new managment has taken over and they have new sushi chefs, it’s not the same. We used to enjoy sitting at the sushi bar to eat, but then the new manager would glare at us when we ate the sushi he made. No smile, no emotion. Once he gave us a free slice of white fish. I wasn’t too keen on it because the slice was sooo thick, but I felt compelled to finish it because he was giving us the stare down. Prices are decent but there are plenty of other better places to go.

We used to eat at the Iron Chef quite frequently because of the great tasting food. I have noticed over the last year, service and cleanliness has gone way down, and the plates are sticky with a film of something. The final straw for us not to go to this place any longer was when the waitress reached in to the pickled ginger bucket with her bare hand to dress one of the awaiting plates after handling money from patrons.

PIcked up a takeout bento box today. I was a little disappointed to find that the website had the opening time wrong(they open at 4, not 3, on Saturdays). But the woman answering the phone took my order 15 minutes early and promised to call me when it was ready. It was worth it. The chicken and shrimp teriyaki were delicious and the california roll was very fresh. I will definitely be back!

A few things could’ve easily bettered our experience and bump up this 2-star rating. We walked in and immediatly took notice to the«different» smell. Is that sushi? No. Typical Asian restaurant? No. Ah ha. It smelled like that of my childhood friends’ grandparents(po po and yéyé) house. This *could* be a good thing. Perhaps they have authentic dishes here… No, it was just the stale air. Twas hot. Like steamed-dumplings-in-yo-face hot. Secondly, my plate was icky and sticky all over the bottom, as though someone with teriyaki palms played NASCAR with my plate. And lastly, there were more than three tables waiting to be bused — not including ours — as we walked out the door. Maybe they were short-staffed, but it seemed fairly busy for a Sunday evening. What did we enjoy? Service was friendly. Our waitress, who was the only one on the floor and also working the register, was kind, had helpful recommendations and a slight sense of humor. Service was prompt, glasses stayed full and she checked into our table at the right moments. They have a good selection of sushi, sashimi, rolls and specialty rolls. I was tempted to get the Highway 6 Roll(holla), just ’cause I grew up in this ‘hood, but didn’t. They also have an all-day $ 15 bento box special worth ordering. I ordered miso soup and cucumber salad to start with. Soup was good; salad definitely passable. I also got the black pepper tuna tataki(maybe too much pepper for average folks), but still something I’d gladly order again, followed by an order(2 pieces) of escolar and smoked salmon sashimi. The sashimi ended up coming out over rice like nigiri(which fell apart), but with larger cuts like sashimi. Works for me! I don’t even need the rice anyway… Salmon was by far better than the escolar. My dining companion really enjoyed his chicken fried rice and beef teriyaki. Note that you can’t sub white for fried; instead you have to place a separate request for a larger size since it’s made-to-order. I don’t know if there’s much sushi selection in this area, and it seems that Iron Chef is pretty popular. Should they blast the A/C a bit more and clean up, I’d be back — just for the tuna and salmon. But only for happy hour. We walked out paying about $ 80 total, and we didn’t even order booze. *Also, this place has been around for five years, but recently under new ownership/management.

I LUV sushi! I am however very picky and some sushi is banned from ever being ordered in my presence. Don’t ask, for I have nothing else to say on the subject. I should probably have been Japanese. wonder what I would look like if I were Japanese. my face is already a little round and I love me some white rice… uhm. So, I happened to be around the area at my sis’s and we decided to go have some sushi. I looked for a good place and Iron Chef came up. The reviews were pretty good, so we decided to venture to Highway 6. When we made it there the place was empty, only us and the waitress. Who, by the way, was not very nice at all. Why all the attitude?! We are the only ones there, might as well keep us happy so we will want to come back! Whatever, since this review is not only about the waitress(who was probably one of the owners judging from the reviews I read), I will say that the sushi was pretty good. The happy hour prices were REALLY great. the only thing is that as the waitress continued to tell us over and over and over: «you not allowed to take home, if you do, you pay full price”(she actually spoke really good english, I’m just being a Hater). I thought that was weird, but whatever, we planned on eating all we ordered. We ordered about five different kinds of rolls and some miso soup. Our bill was very low at $ 30. If not because of the woman’s stinking attitude I would definitely have given them 4 beautiful, red, shiny stars. Meanwhile, I will not let her attitude keep me from enjoying their very tasty sushi, I shall return.

First off I must say that the people who gave bad reviews must not be eating the things that I get every time I go here which always include sushi! Hello it is a sushi place and that is what they are good at. I have gone here soooo many times I could not even tell you the number. Service is always fast and the sushi is always fresh. I went today and I got the salmon lover lunch which has great pieces of salmon! Try that if you like salmon sushi. Also I get a philly roll or pick some other specialty roll from the menu if I am extra hungry. They have great hot teas as well. The only thing I did not like was green tea ice cream but that is an aquired taste and I do not have it for that. I will stick with green tea drinks. If you liks sushi and you are in the area the lunch specials can not be beat! Try it at least once

I should’ve read Dolph’s review before heading out to this place. He’s always spot on with reviews, especially with this one. I probably shouldn’t have tried this place after eating at Sushi Jin. Oh well. I had the ramen. It was by far, the worst ramen I’ve ever had, period. The noodle is the egg noodles that you buy at a Chinese supermarket, which is NOT what Japanese ramen is like. The whole bowl tastes even worse than the instant ramen that come in packs or Styrofoam bowls that you can get from vending machines. I opted for chicken in my ramen, which tastes like it was precooked and dumped in to be cooked again with the noodles. It completely ruined the taste of the whole bowl. Even adding massive amounts of spices couldn’t salvage it. I had one piece of red snapper sushi that my coworker couldn’t finish. It tasted metallic and fishy. She offered more but I politely declined. I’d have to say the bento box looked like it was a good value for the amount of food. But I’m not sure if the quality was worth it. The service was so-so. Our waitress looked bored. And the restaurant was really dark so that when we walked out, we were literally blinded. Hmm, I wonder why. I won’t go back not even if you paid me.

Woo Hoo! I love this place. Have eaten here at least 50 times and the owner Andy and his wife greet us by name. Andy is from Indonesia and his wife from Japan. He travels a bit but she’s always there and they are such nice people. Oh and the American style sushi here is top notch and fantastic. They will make anything you want and if I have eaten here at least 50 times that should tell ya something. My wife is authentic Japanese and has ordered from their menu as well and she really liked the food as well. This place is kid friendly and they even carry special Japanese sodas for kids so make sure to ask for one of those too. While it’s been over a year since I have been there and miss it so much, I do know that they did not have an alcohol license yet, but they will let you bring your own wine or beer if you want. I had been eating there since right after they opened and I know they said the were working on a beer permit so maybe they do have beer by now. I highly recommend this place and you sure can’t beat the name Iron Chef! Hehe

This is a great place to go if you want sushi at a decent price, and that is well prepared. This restaurant is clean, and the staff is very polite. They are always full of suggestions, and will appeal to even the most finicky of sushi eaters. They don’t have a huge selection of saki, but they have always let me SAMPLE some before I buy(and I mean a decent sized sample).
