I came in on the day after Christmas before my big day of bargain shopping and this place was exactly what I needed. Quaint and quiet was what I needed after the busy holiday. Friendly service and a good home cooked breakfast is what I got and I couldn’t have been more satisfied.

Overpriced, no atmosphere. Hash browns were underdone and sausage terrible. Portions too small for the price of 6.99. Always wanted to try it. Oh well

So it’s a little mom and pop type of place which I always like finding. I liked the fact that when they take your order at the counter and than tell you to have a seat they don’t have you pay upfront, I also thought for a burger and fries and a drink $ 7 isn’t a bad price. However that’s where it stops for me. I’m never a fan of ordering a soda and having them bring you out a bottle and a cup of ice. Personally the burger was to thin for my taste… Across the street there is a Jack in the Box. Not a fan of that place however in this case I would say they have the better burger for the same price.

This place is junk! Thin slice patties! Definitely NOT a flame broil burger! Yeah its cheap, but you get what you pay for. You rather hit the Jack and the Box across the street.

Upon walking in I noticed a funny smell in the restaurant that was very similar to an old apartment unit. It felt less like a restaurant and more like being at an Uncle’s house. There were only two people on staff, the cook and the waitress, but I guess that was all that was needed since there were only three patrons, including myself. The one thing I noticed was that the cook didn’t wash his hands. He would write stuff with a pen, pick up his phone, and other activities and then proceed to cook the food. The bathroom was also pretty gross; and if the bathroom isn’t taken care of, you know there are problems with cleanliness elsewhere in the restaraunt. The hours don’t help Jonh’s Broiler Burger either. It is only open from 7am to 5pm Mon-Sat, so it’s mostly open when people are at work so it doesn’t make much financial sense. The meal I received was better than I thought it would be. I ordered french toast with eggs and bacon and paid less than six bucks. While the food is decent and the prices are low, I have to give John’s Broiler Burger two stars maximum because of the cleanliness. Maybe I’m too hung up on it not being dirty, or my standards of cleanliness are high. If those things aren’t important to you, then try this place out for its low prices.

My friend and I headed to this place in search of a decent burger in the University of Houston vicinity. We headed north to Second Ward, and decided to try John’s. I ordered the half-pound cheeseburger with fries, and it ended up being great! I had a seat at the table while it was made to order. The dining area of the place is modest, but clean. It has a real old-school vibe to it, which gives it some character. I was glad to not see generic A&M and UT junk plastered everywhere. Unabashedly one with its locale, this place sports mostly Texans, Dynamo, and UH stuff. Upon grabbing our finished order from the counter, I was presented with some good stuff. The patty of my burger was thick, and had a great flame broiled taste as expected. The vegetables were crisp and fresh. The french fries were exactly what I like in that they weren’t super thin, and were salted properly. The man behind the counter was awesome, and very nice. Overall. This place was great, and I will be returning.

Great old school burger joint… Quality food at a pretty low price, I had the Dbl Cheeseburger and fries, it was not huge, but I left full and happy with plenty of cash still in my pocket!

This place is decent although the décor is not romantic. The prices are good. They have burgers and gyros. I ate the gyros here and I’m pleased to say that despite the décor, the food is good. I stop by here if I have a hankering for gyros when I’m at University of Houston(since all other Greek places are just way too far). But I still would rather have a gyro from Miami Subs. I hope they come back to Houston!
