Searching for Nemo… Lol, met up with my bestie for some dinner and gossip. The place has a nice ambiance. There is a bar and they do have happy hour. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We ordered a few items off the happy hour menu and some sashimi. It was all good. They have some exotic(different) rolls — we tried one that had like pork and even though it sounded good, I wasn’t very impressed. The spicy edamame is addictive and spicy! Win! They have a crab miso soup that was yum. Also, they have different daily specials. And a full bar. The restaurant isn’t very big so there was a wait(for those that came after us). We did notice that the rolls seemed smaller than other sushi places that we’ve been too but it was still ok. I would def give it a 2nd try in the future.

Went there for the first time today with my brother during happy hour. Really nice and trendy place. The hostess was real cute. Hit me up! lol. Good food and vibes. –Although the HH prices weren’t bad, the regular menu sushi items were small and pricey. –The oxtail ramen was very good and filling; a must-try. I’ll be back to try some of the other menu items.

I’m always down to check out a new sushi spot, so I was excited to try Ka. We went on a Tuesday night and had no problem with parking. Upon walking in we were immediately seated. I was really glad to see the extensive bar menu. They had a lot of different whiskeys, and a great selection of Japanese Whiskeys. I had an old fashioned made with Japanese whiskey and it was very tasty. We started with the Brussels sprouts and the seaweed salad. The Brussels sprouts were delicious and may be the best thing on the menu. The seaweed salad was not your average seaweed salad either. It had a kick to it, and was a refreshing change from the usual sushi joint seaweed salads. After that we had three specialty rolls, and I had the flounder sushi. The rolls we had were the Miss Piggy, the Captain Crunch, and the Yellow Rose. The yellow Rose was the best, but none of them were that great, and they were very small. My flounder was the smallest pieces of sushi I have ever been served. The drinks are great and the appetizers were great. The rolls are overpriced for what you get. Definitely check this place out for the Brussels sprouts and cocktails. I will definitely be back for happy hour.

Cool place, nice seating and comfy cozy place you can dress up or dress down. Nice people. Service was great. Happy hour specials for sushi, food, amd drink are good it really depends on what you get, some happy hour items aren’t worth it when you see the real price. miss piggy roll — delish and crunchy surprise on the inside yakitori(delish flavor on a skewer) kanazawa summer(drink) prepare for your taste buds to be shocked! …in a good way a good crisp clean feeling drink with a zing! winter in kyoto(drink amazing)

Service: ok Ambiance: nice but loud Food: good with some set backs The curry scallops that ordered, I did not like at all. It tasted like rubber probably Bc it was overcooked. The pork belly bowl we ordered was good, the sweet sauce made everything tie together. The lobster ramen was good but by the time I was done getting all the lobster out of the claws, I had to go wash my hands and eat my ramen cold. Exactly how I want my ramen. NOT! The lobster ramen was priced really reasonably. Not sure if I’ll be back. Maybe if I crave the lobster ramen. I’ll Togo it so my broth won’t get cold again.

The sushi is good and the prices are very reasonable. The service is excellent. The ramen was my favorite. I’m not a big ramen person either(more into sushi rolls usually) but this place changed my mind! We had the lobster ramen and it was delicious. I’ve heard great things about the other ramen items on the menu as well so will definitely be back to try the rest! The drinks were good, great place for a casual dinner or date. The only negative is the bar area is very small and not a lot of room if you don’t have a barstool to stand and wait for your table however I went on a pretty busy night & they were able to seat us very quickly without a reservation which was a pleasant surprise!

I contemplated taking off a star for average décor, but the ambiance was saved by the impressive food and service so much so that Ka Sushi gets 5 stars anyway. We went on a busy Saturday around 830 pm and were told that the wait would be around 45 minutes for a table for two of us. After looking at the menu we decided to stay anyway and found two seats at the bar. So glad we did! We got excellent, personalized service. Minh and Ryan were helping us at the bar side and gave us great suggestions. Foodwise, I had heard great things about the lobster here(lobster ramen, lobster ceviche, and lobster nigiri), and being a die hard lobster lover I had to try one of these out. We were ordering mostly sushi items so decided to save the lobster ramen to try another day. When I walked by someone who was eating the lobster ramen, it looked amazing and satisfying, with two large lobster claws within a big bowl of noodle soup. Onto what we ordered though — lobster nigiri, scallop nigiri, chicken hearts, white chocolate shrimp, hamachi chili, agedashi tofu, and a couple of sake bombs on the side with hot sake and sapporo beer. We started off with the chicken hearts to please our adventurous palettes — not bad but eat them while they’re hot. It comes with two skewers of chicken hearts, lightly seasoned in a dry rub, somewhat smokey, without any overwhelming flavors. The white chocolate shrimp — sounds unusual right? Turned out to be one of the best things we ordered — about five large fried pieces sitting on top of a thick, creamy, white chocolate sauce. The flavors paired together like two peas in a pod. The lobster nigiri: AMAZING! absolutely must try. The lobster tasted fresh and buttery, generous pieces, with a truffle butter type of sauce on it. Try this without dressing it with soy, wasabi, or ginger to really appreciate the flavors. The scallop nigiri — if you love scallops like i do, get the chopped scallop nigiri. It was good, pretty comparable to other scallop nigiris I’ve had, nothing special though. Hamachi chili was also great — spicy, tangy, and always hits the spot. Agedashi tofu is always delicious, it’s a japanese fried tofu, and somehow seems to be pretty standard everywhere I’ve ever ordered it — comes with about three large soft pieces of tofu deep fried lightly, served on a broth based sauce and topped with scallions. Definitely will be coming back for more! Loved our experience there. And to top it off — prices are extremely reasonable, and the bill came out to about half of what we expected it to be based on other sushi restaurants in Houston. Thanks, Ka Sushi, for the dining experience!

So happy my gf and I got a chance to try this spot. Unh — believable. 5⁄5 — service — can’t began to describe how friendly our waitress was, she was the best. Informative & genuine. I always like great recommendations. The place was very very busy Sat night, but we were still being attended to, still felt like a personal dining expierence. 5⁄5 — food — again unreal — we had the snow crab miso, spicy edamame, yellow rose, negimaki(omg), Hamachi(yummy!), lobster tempura, lobster ramen, and the mochi desert … the food was refreshing and tasted excellent! 5⁄5 — drink — the have hitanchino beer our favorite and a great selection of specialty drinks with an extensive listing of Japanese whiskey, sake, and wine. We just left and I am eager to go back to KA Sushi.

Atmosphere is always so welcoming and calm. Staff is very nice. The bar manager always suggests the best food to eat if you have a question. Very delicious. Brussel sprouts are awesome! Hamachi chili is one of my favorites. Definitely get the chef’s selection on the sashimi! Must try!

I came here for dinner after hearing great things about this place. No BS, I had such a great dining experience that I signed up for Unilocal just to write this review. I caught the tail end of their happy hour and found that their prices are much more than reasonable if you’re looking for a drink or two. $ 5 for Grey Goose and Remy Martin VSOP? Yes please! The servers are attentive, friendly, and attractive(especially the bar manager!) He also makes the best drinks. I was mesmerized just sitting there watching him masterfully construct each drink with such concentration and attention to detail. I asked for a custom alteration to the my martini, and he happily obliged. As for the food, OMG the lobster nigiri is fantastic! I also really loved the Kong salmon poke and the chicken hearts. I can’t recommend this place enough. It gets pretty busy on a Saturday night, but that just means you can have more time to watch the bar manager do his thing while you enjoy their wide selection of drinks!

Let me start off by saying that the food is good. Preparation and presentation is excellent. It’s also more of a fusion than just pure Japanese cuisine. The restaurant itself is small and you need to make reservations for larger groups. They also have many different dishes to choose from as well as a wide selection of alcoholic beverages. The restaurant also has a modern ambiance, the staff are friendly and attentive, and it’s clean. My only real complaint of Ka is portion sizes for the prices you pay. I had the Hamachi Don rice bowl(smoked yellowtail rice bowl, bonito, sambal butter & sous vide egg /$ 13) and for the price I paid, I feel like the portion size should have been double what I actually got. After I finished the rice bowl, I was still hungering for a little more, and that’s after an appetizer of spicy edamame. Prices are relative per person of course, and i’m more of a budget foodie. Give it a try for yourself and see what you think. As for me, I’ll probably go somewhere else to get my moneys worth.

What a fun, delicious experience at KA Sushi! All of the food we had was great, and the service was nice as well. We tried the pork belly ramen special, and it was fantastic – my favorite part of the meal. It had corn, mushrooms and, of course, pork belly. Really delicious ramen that I’d highly recommend. It was dinner early, and the restaurant was still on happy hour until 6:30(on a Saturday!), and the sushi was very good. The most interesting/different roll was the captain crunch, and the spicy tuna roll was very good as well. The happy hour prices only saved a few dollars, but the prices were generally reasonable anyways. Great spot!

It seems like everything going in this shopping center takes its sweet time before opening, giving all the Heights residents plenty of time to build their anticipation. I think I heard about a sushi place going in this space well over a year ago. So what took you so long, KA? Either way, I was pretty excited to try this place since it’s just a few blocks from my house. I had heard that they weren’t taking reservations, so it seemed like the best idea to try it on a weeknight. My fiancé and I split a variety of dishes. The toro sushi and beef cooked on a hot rock both stood out the most to us. Everything else was pretty average as far as typical Japanese offerings go. The presentation was definitely above and beyond though. We got a lobster ceviche that was served in the tail and we both thought it added a nice touch. KA is probably the best(and really, only) sushi joint in the Heights, so it’s more of a convenience factor for neighborhood locals than anything else. I’d go back and maybe try more of the rolls this time around, because my roommate ordered a few that looked delicious.

Service was great. Maybe a little too good since they kept asking how everything was and I got tired of having to answer each time because I just wanted to eat. haha Lobster ramen was soooo delicious! Brussel sprouts were ok. Definitely not as good as Uchi, but if you get the lobster ramen it comes with a few pieces of brussel sprouts so you don’t have to order this. Sashimi was pretty fresh. Unfortunately, I was really hung over so I didn’t get to try any of the cocktails. The bf tried 2 cocktails and liked them. The one called the hangover smelled like phở…

I was somewhat hesitant to try this new sushi restaurant in the heights since they only opened about two months ago and have some mixed reviews on Unilocal,BUT they recently started offering HAPPYHOUR so of course, I couldn’t resist. And I was pleasantly surprised! Happy hour recommendations — spicy edamame $ 4 — Yellow rose($ 9) = yellow tail, spicy tuna, shiso leafs, yellow tobiko eggs and Thai chili sauce — Hamachi chili($ 9) = slice yellow tail sashimi with Thai peppers, togarashi and ponzu sauce — DRANKS!: signature cocktails $ 8, sake $ 7, wine $ 5, beer $ 4, well drinks $ 4 Regular menu recommendations — both the lobster and oxtail ramen are really good. The broth is flavorful and it’s definitely a unique twist on the traditional ramen dish — Brussel sprouts are the new kale. Not as good as uchi but still really good — negimaki = sliced ribeye rolled with avocado and teriyaki sauce — dirty south roll = spicy tuna and avocado inside topped with seared salmon and soft shell crawfish Service was attentive and friendly. Our waiter Ren was really nice and answered all of our questions about the menu. All in all, if you’re looking for a new trendy happy hour spot in the heights, give this place a shot!

My friend, who loves expensive and fancy sushi, has been dying to try this place. Me, I’m a plain sort of Japanese eater – give me my curry, yaki onigiri(grilled rice balls), and a raw egg, and I’m good. This place has great service that really prides in the menu. That much you can tell. They take their time in explaining specials and their favorites. I can kind of tell they aren’t foodies though. Every now and then, you’ll run across an item that you want to know more about and the descriptions sort of get lost. I don’t hold that against the serving staff, but I’m pointing it out. Also, the menu felt a little disorganized; they need a graphic designer to come clean this up with more appropriate fonts and paging. We came on a very rainy Saturday Halloween night. I appreciated the staff wearing fun Halloween«pieces of flare» so to speak. The food? A little too fusion for my taste. My friend and I remarked that so much of it tasted sort of tropical. Meanwhile, my other friend, who is a human vacuum cleaner but appreciates things like beef tongue, had a great time. I spent $ 6 on tea, another $ 16 on food which was ok, and sort of felt underwhelmed. I think it’s a great place but not my style. Of what I had: $ 6 tea — Green tea was very good(four stars), and they did not let the pot get empty –grilled rice cake– Was expecting something more like what Izakaya-Wa did. This was a salty, chunky rice noodle with spicy kimchi sauce. I was disappointed although it was not bad. –brussel sprouts– Delicious and on point! I loved the little lime juice to give it an unexpected tart burst. –shrimp tempura roll– A little on the skinny side but good Friends had beef tongue on hot rock, beef tongue the appetizer, lobster ramen, a Halloween specialty roll, deep south roll, karaage(also not traditional), miso eggplant(good), and unagi nigiri. They seemed to walk out of here pretty happy.

New Sushi Restaurant in the Heights that offers much more than sushi! Sushi/Roll recommendations: — Hamachi Pop — Kush Roll — Pot of Gold Roll Other recommendations: — Chocolate Shrimp — Chicken Karaage — Lobster Ceviche — Whole Fried Fish — Lobster Ramen — Curry Scallops They also have a huge selection of whiskeys and unique cocktails. My favorite signature cocktail was the Hangover Cure that is made from phở simple syrup.

Ok ladies and gentleman! May I have your attention? KA sushi is open and you need to go immediately! This place is so great. I think Soma may have lost a customer to this new joint. First off, the scenery is beautiful. They really did a great job on the décor. Second, the menu is rather extensive and reasonably priced! I started off with the seaweed salad and it was phenomenal! Sweet then spicy! It definitely has a kick to it. Then we got the uni, salmon, and unagi nigiri. All of which were very fresh and light. My counterpart got the lobster ramen and I got the yellow rose for the main event. Mine was so decadent with a side of Thai chili and chopped yellowtail inside. His had HUGE lobster claws. The service here is impeccable! We will be back :)

Overall just OK food and good dining experience. Strawberry Ikura: 5 of 5. Essentially fish balls with popping boba, correct me if I’m wrong. I generally dont like it as it tends to have a fish smell, but with the strawberry pieces in it, it was surprisingly pleasant. So if you’ve never ordered just the fish balls, this is a great place to try it. Miso Eggplant: 5 of 5. Surprisingly good, if I came back for any of the one things I tried that night, it would be this. I hate egg plant, its got a weird texture and flavor but here, they fried in a way that gave it a nice crust, soft, almost creamy center and a savory sweet flavor. Loved it. Chicken Hearts and Yakitori(Teriyaki Chicken): 3 of 5 These came out cold initially and was disappointed. We told our waiter and he immediately got us new ones. The new ones once hot were good but not amazing. The hearts were slightly«gamey» and both were inconsistently sized and lacked any distinct flavor. I think theres a draft somewhere in their process because our food cooled down very fast so remember to eat these quickly. If you want like these, look at Tiger Den for better versions. Sushi roll with Bacon(or pork belly) it in: 3 of 5. The crunch from the bacon really set it off but it was so thin, I think I would’ve preferred a shorter roll(it was served on a long dish) that was thicker. It just tasted like sushi rice with a bacon consistency. Not enough substance to overpower the sushi rice flavor. Cucumber Roll with Jackfruit: 3 of 5. Not for everyone. It comes out really wet: cucumbers, jackfruit, then ponzu. I think the ponzu overpowered a lot of it and gave it an undesired wet texture. I couldn’t really taste the fish or the jackfruit as much as I had hoped. Again, shorter but little larger might help bring out the flavors more. Korean Noodles: 3 of 5, this was complimentary, after he had requested re-do’s on the chicken hearts and yakitori the gave us this. It was nice and hot. It had a weird balance of flavors that I didn’t really like. I can’t really describe as I dont think it was supposed to taste this way. This was toward the end of our meal so we weren’t quite wow’d and at this point, and pairing this with everything else we had previously didn’t really go well with the rest of our meal. Uni: 0 of 5. Really disappointed. For the most expensive item we bought, I wanted to cry while eating it. It tasted horrible, like rotten oysters horrible. But I didn’t want to spit it up cause it was at least 7 dollars(2 pc for $ 14) of my meal. As one of the items that are most likely to perish quickly, please taste test these things before going out. Service: 5 of 5. They were really busy all night. We sat at the bar so Hat? and the bald guy with the Apple watch were very helpful. Cold skewers? I’ll get you new ones. Dropped your chopstick? heres a new pair. The girl in front could’ve used another person, she was constantly on the phone taking calls. I would suggest a taller entrance stand, she was constantly bending over to access the iPad.

I’m gonna keep this short because, well, this was their soft opening and hard to fully judge a place on «day 1». But, i have to hand it to them… for a soft opening, they had it pretty well organized. Many soft openings will have limited menus, clueless staff, and several miscues on quality. All-in-all, the food was well done. Miso soup was perfect… and for $ 3, cant beat it! My one peeve was the ‘Chef Special’ nigiri that had 10 ‘chef choices’…one that included Crab Stick. I mean. if you LIKE sushi, you don’t order that. I will say, they ALSO have the pickled wasabi, so do yourself a favor and order a side of it. Service was very good. Hostess was ‘green’ to say the least, but very friendly. Anthony was our server and very knowledgeable and friendly. Food: 4.5 Drinks: 3($ 8 for a draft beer?) Atmosphere: 5(a lot of thought put into this… and its very cozy and modern at the same time) Service: 5 Price: 3.5(its the heights, and priced like it is… we’ll see how happy hour works) Overall, this place has huge potential. My biggest worry is the LONG wait that it will inevitably have. I will update this review for sure in the future… stay tuned.
