Oh no! Oh yes! Oh yes! Talk about some good marketing behind Oh No Yaki Snack Attack(ONYSA). A memorable and unique name and probably the coolest food truck I’ve ever seen. Some food trucks are a little run down and dirty, ONYSA is as slick as ca be. For goodness snake, there’s an arcade game built-in to the food truck! What a way to keep yourself entertained as you wait for your food. ONYSA was taking part in a food truck festival at Sun’s Club. While only offering a limited menu on this day, ONYSA offers an American twist on Japanese cuisine. We went with the ramen burger which is an adventure in of itself. If you’ve never had a ramen burger before, some genius in Cali invented it and you must try it. ONYSA’s ramen burger taken a juicy burger, cooked medium, adds some cheese, green onions and sandwiches all that in between two fried ramen patties to create heaven in your mouth. You read that right, ramen noodles fried and shaped into buns replace your traditional bread bun. Service was friendly as well. I don’t know what else you could ask for in a food truck. There will be many more snack attacks in my near future.

Wow! How many times do you pay for food only to have the owner return the money to you later on because he thought the food was not«up to his usual standard»? This is exactly what happened. Came here on a Friday night with my husband and our couple friend. Friday night they are located at antidote in the Heights, which btw is hard to find since there is no sign. Luckily our friends have been to antidote and knew exactly where it is, located next to a convenience store. We ordered the katsu sando(Panko coated fried pork cutlet sandwich), kimchee fries, and chicken karaage(Japanese fried chicken: boneless chicken pieces coated in potato starch instead of flour batter or bread crumbs typical of American fried chicken). Turned out our friends ordered the exact same items as us after they asked for recommendations from the owner. We were told that the food would be brought to us and went inside antidote for seats. While we waited we started realizing the food truck was a one-man show(we sat by the window of antidote facing yaki snack attack). The owner(I assume he’s the owner) took orders, prepared the food, and came rushing in and out the truck delivering food to his patrons. The food did take a bit longer to arrive, but it wasn’t too bad as we got drinks from Antidote. Moving on to the FOOD: Katsu sando: 5⁄5 Deeelish! By far my favorite item here. The pork cutlet was perfectly fried, crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Portion was quite large as the cutlet pieces were thick. Also really liked the red pickled daikon tucked between. The combination of Japanese mayo, tonkatsu sauce, pickled daikon and pork cutlet in a sandwich is a must try. This is a YESYESYES! Kimchee fries: 3⁄5 Kimchee topping had excellent flavor, but the kimchee was cold and didn’t pair well with the hot fries. The fries in my opinion tasted previously frozen and they seemed overfried to the point that the outside had separated from the interior potato. Not a fan. However, my husband really liked them and so did my friends. I have a personal preference for soggy fries, so if you like super crunchy fries please disregard my 3 star review. Chicken karaage: 3.5÷5 In my opinion this item was not bad. I’ve had my share of really bad Japanese fried chicken copycats, and this one is not one of them. The chicken wasn’t dry, there was flavor, and the exterior was not heavily breaded and was not soggy so can’t complain. My friends didn’t like it though, but they still ate all of it. However, at the end of the meal, the owner came by our table and apologized that he had tasted the chicken karaage and felt it wasn’t up to his usual standards. He handed us money back and apologized again. I think we were so shocked that we didn’t know what to say. I really appreciate the owner’s sincerity though, hence the 5⁄5 review. Will definitely be back to try the karaage again(along with an order of the delicious katsu sando) Please do give this place a try! Highly recommend!

A little on the pricey side, but that’s to be expected of food trucks. It was parked in front of Insomnia and across the street from Fat Cat when I went with Chelsea Y.(her review is better) so we took our food and went into Insomnia to eat. I think there was a sign that said we could buy drinks from Insomnia so we thought we were supposed to eat in there. Yeah, I don’t think that was the case so I didn’t eat in peace. We got the tonkatsu sandwich which she really liked but I didn’t, only because it was more of a twist on tonkatsu sandwich and not exactly the original flavor that I was expecting. The curry fries were super delicious, and I would totally eat them forever(or until I get sick of curry). I would like to come back and try the other items on the menu, karaage etc.

Oh no yaki snack attack is unique because not many places in Houston have Japanese fast food. Luckily, this truck is all you need because it’s delicious: P. My friend and I came here when it was in front of Insomnia in the heights. We ordered a tonkatsu sandwich and curry fries, and I liked both items. The tonkatsu sandwich was pretty heavy because they grill it with a copious amount of butter, but it was flavorful, crispy, and delicious. I don’t think it’s the most authentic item(tonkatsu sandwiches usually aren’t grilled and definitely don’t use a ton of butter) but it was yummy nonetheless. My friend thought it was too heavy on the butter though. We both really liked the curry fries. They seemed to be handcut fries, not frozen ones, and they were sturdy enough to stay relatively crispy even though they were smothered with a delicious curry sauce. I would definitely get this again. I’m not sure if we were supposed to, but we took the food inside Insomnia to eat. We thought there would be seats and drinks to order, but inside is just a store and people playing video games. They also just have some bottled drinks in a fridge. It felt a little weird to eat inside there, but the guy who worked there was very nice and didn’t kick us out or anything. Next time, I’d probably take it to go or eat inside the car. Definitely try this truck out! They post their weekly schedule on their Facebook page so check that before you go!

Gave this food truck a try as my pre-Street Fighter Tournament meal and their Tonkatsu Sandwich was a HADOUKEN to my taste buds! The sandwich was a piece of fried pork chop on Texas Toast with Japanese Mayo, Tonkatsu sauce, cabbage and Japanese pickles. It was the best thing I’ve ever had from a food truck. It had all of the flavors you would want. Sweet, Savory, Salty… delicious! They also had am arcade cabinet attached to the truck which is great for when you are waiting. The staff was very friendly and brought food to customers inside the bar they were stationed outside of. Can’t wait to have this again! Great job!

Yummy! I wish this truck was open more on the regular. We had the hotdog and chicken pieces.(I forgot their actual menu names). Both items did not disappoint!

I’ve had the kaarage a few times when I was visiting Insomnia and I’m pleased to say that it was always excellent. The breading on the chicken had a nice crunch but not overly thick. Also, the chicken was very tender and didn’t seem overly processed. Needless to say, I’m definitely satisfied with the money I spent here. I wasn’t crazy about the kitschy ornamental Japanese cats but hey, I wasn’t there to look at the truck. In addition, there’s a small little multi-game arcade cabinet embedded into the truck so you can play while you wait. No quarters? No problem! The cabinet is set to free play, so you can play as much as you want. Long live Yaki Snack Attack!

Tried the Japanese curry with rice. Really good! Very tender. The rice was moist and the curry was a nice fragrant flavor. Only negative is that this food truck doesn’t have regular everyday hours. You have to check out their website to find out when and where they will be open, which seems to usually be at events or special locations. It’s a shame because I would go there a lot of it were available more often!

My wife and toddler and I were at Fat Cat for Ice Cream when we saw a food truck in front of Insomnia across the street, so we quickly agreed to go check it out. It’s a cool truck, for starters. They have J-Pop music videos playing, plus a cabinet full of good luck waving cats, plus a video game console, which I have to say I thought was seriously awesome. We got a snack sized fried chicken(forget the name in Japanese) with kewpie sauce(like spicy mayo) and I looked longingly at the Okonomiyake but settled for curry fries. All the food was good and it didn’t take long. Would love to go there again with more time and a bigger appetite.
