They sell pre-packaged sushi. I had the Philly Combo which included an 8 piece Philadelphia Roll, 1 piece Tuna Nigiri, 1 piece Salmon Nigiri, 1 Red Snapper Nigiri, and 1 piece Shrimp Nigiri. It was about $ 10, and it didn’t really taste fresh. I think it was overpriced.

I’m giving this a 4 star because I think local businesses like this deserve to be supported. I picked up some pre-packaged sushi. It was pretty good, rice was well cooked(not too mushy), fish chunks were good tasting. Service was pretty good too. If you are already stuck in the downtown tunnel of bleakness like the rest of us working folks, then you too deserve some simple but yummy sushi :)

Fast, decent sushi located in the Downtown tunnels by Pennzoil Tower & Chase Tower. I’ve been here several times if I just want to order a quick roll to take back to my desk. Their rolls are usually pre-made and stored in the open cooler for you to pick up. They also have seaweed salad that I absolutely detest! Why? Because they use lettuce as a filler so it makes it appear you have a lot of seaweed salad when half of it is tasteless lettuce! I’ve had the Shaggy roll and other few rolls and they’ve always been pretty decent. Ask for more soy sauce because 1 measly packet isn’t enough. Also it’s best to go around 11am when the sushi is fresh rather than 1−2pm when the sushi has been sitting in the cooler and the rice has gotten a tad hard and cold. Don’t care too much for their stir fry as it has an aftertaste and flavorless. Service is good and they even serve breakfast too(eggs, omlets, pancakes). Worth a visit for quick sushi.

Affordable, decent sushi. You can get it prepared by them or pre-made in a wrapped up tray in the cooler. The staff has always been friendly and they work very quickly! Don’t expect seating for dine-in during the lunch rush. There’s enough for maybe10−12 people, but they fill up fast.

Went here to try the gyoza dumplings twice. Both times skin was good and warm. meat on the inside was cold. disappointment. Miso soup was ok. It was warm with seaweed and tofu bits in it. its hard to wash the disappointment down when the main event was a let down. to my surprise they also offered bubble tea and an assortment of japanese snacks and pre-made sushi. maybe i’ll try the spring rolls on the next round and avoid the dumplings all together.

While it’s no AKA Sushi, Kokoro can at least put my «sushi shakes» to rest during the work week so I can remain a diligent employee. Kokoro is a tiny Japanese spot in the middle of the downtown tunnel system featuring sushi, teryaki, tempura and EVENBUBBLETEA! Albeit the sushi is not nearly the best you’ve ever had,(comparable to grocery store sushi), I have to give them points on variety! They carry all your basic rolls, a few specialty rolls(don’t get too excited), spring rolls, salads and fresh fruit. As a sushi fiend who can never settle on just one roll, I can appreciate Kokoro’s efforts in their sushi combo boxes. For example, their Tex Mex Combo comes with a few spicy tuna pieces, a few Cali pieces with masago, and 4 pieces of sashimi(still scratching my head on their naming convention). They also offer great $ 7 lunch specials featuring their roll of the day, soup, 2 dumplings and and an eggroll… CA-CHING! They offer a limited selection of refreshing bubble teas(including my personal fave, frozen cappuccino with tapioca). How did I get through the work week without this? Kokoro also sells fun Japanese candy and chips if you are into that sort of thing. The staff is mildly friendly, but rest assured that you can get in and out of there in 5 minutes. There a few tables inside should you choose to dine in, though the ambiance is lacking. Bottom Line: Fully admitting that I’d never come here if I was not working downtown, it remains a solid lunch option for my dangerous sushi habit.

Located in the downtown tunnels between my parking garage at 801 Travis and my office at 700 Milam, this place smells great in the mornings and I know coworkers who take the longer route in the tunnels just to past by here and get a whiff of the food in the mornings. FYI, they enforce the rather typical Asian establishment rule of $ 5 minimum for credit cards. They serve various breakfast combos in the morning, such as eggs, sausage, and breakfast tacos for relatively cheap(anywhere from $ 1.50−4). I’ve never had their breakfast, so I’ll go ahead with my lunch review. It’s pretty much a quick stop for anyone who doesn’t want to wait in line. Kokoro has the typical sushi display, open refrigeration shelves with different sushi rolls in plastic containers. You walk down cafeteria-style to get to the cash register after ordering or selecting whatever you want. They serve a variety of items for lunch, such as Korean bbq(bul-go-gi) and Japanese dishes. I have never been a fan of their sushi or pan fried dumplings. The seaweed salad is good, though, and the spring rolls with peanut sauce are so-so. I’d definitely go somewhere else for my sushi. To be honest, most people come here because of its convenience(it’s right downstairs from my office). For the people who can’t take a trip to Chinatown to get goodies, they sell those crackers wrapped in seaweed, Pocky, Hello Panda, etc. Sure, the price markup is ridiculous, but I guess if it’s worth the convenience to you. What keeps me coming back here is the udon soup. Again, I love soup. Whether you get plain, or chicken, or miso, or anything else, the udon soup is pretty damn good. I’ve directed coworkers who felt under the weather to Kokoro and they always really liked the chicken udon. It’s a generous portion of noodles served in a big styrofoam bowl and yummy broth(albeit on the salty side).
