When I walked in, I didn’t think I’d get sucked in the way I did! I wanted to buy everything for my daughter. They have a huge variety of items and activities and the staff was very nice. It’s on the pricier side but you can find everything you’re looking for in one place.

This place has great learning stuff for kids of all ages. I work at a childcare program and we purchase a lot of things here. If you are an educator or you work with children or you homeschool your children you should visit this store. Some may say that the store is pricey but the educational tools that you can get here it’s just wonderful.

This is a great teacher supply store. However, you must know that many of the items they carry are their own, so if you’re looking for a specific company/product/manufacturer you may not find it here. Having said that, their products are great. They have a huge selection of toys, games, manipulatives, storage options, bulletin board materials, and books for all subject areas. Their prices are pretty good as well and they always have some kind of sale or discount going on. As a teacher, I head here prior to beginning each school year, and throughout the year, in order to stock up and get new things. It would also be very valuable for homeschooling purposes or just educational toys for your children at home. This is definitely a place you should try when in the market for educational supplies!

Review about purchasing a gift: I don’t have children but I do teach kids(high school kids). My sister has a young child and Christmas is coming, so I found her wish list and went shopping. Thank goodness that a wishlist is a possibility at Lakeshore, because the place is HUGE. Also, for those of us without kids, we never know what is appropriate for different ages of children or what their parents want. So, armed with the knowledge that she had a wishlist on file with them, I went in. To my dismay, Lakeshore Learning has yet to enter the 21st century. They do have online wishlists that can be created and shared with people. BUT you cannot access those wishlists in the store, and they have no method to mark items as purchased on the wish list. I was able to pull up her wishlist on my iPhone, but as I mentioned before, I’m not sure it’s up to date since people purchasing items in the store have no way to denote that on the online wishlist. There were several helpful staff members when I walked in. The first two I asked had no idea that Lakeshore even had wishlist. They asked their manager who informed me that yes they do have wishlists but the problems that I would need to get the wishlist on my own. I pulled up the items, they went in search of them, and I was able to get 3 of the 4 items I asked about. Stuff here is pricey! There are some quality items, but wow… you are definitely paying for that quality. Also, they gift wrap for free. I asked the friendly young man if he was good at gift wrapping and he said he did better than most. Um, yeah… he wasn’t very good. When he was done, it looked like a child had wrapped it. So, I suggest you wrap your own gifts. Also, their idea of a gift receipt is quite sad. I asked for a gift receipt. It printed out with information about the store but all it said was that I had purchased 3 items. It didn’t say what the items were, there was no bar code, and really there was no way to identify what items went with that receipt. Strange. I think I’ll be purchasing gifts online from now on. At least the online system will mark them as purchased on the gift registry.

I spent a long time there trying to find a baby gift and a gift for a 5 year old that was not made in China. Who can trust China? I don’t want to risk the dangers nor do I appreciate businesses making the U.S. be the Wal-Mart for China’s goods. After searching for an hour I realized that all of Lakeshore’s and even Melissa and Doug’s items are from China. I bought a book, dot markers and a ball which really were way below the cost I had planned to spend on learning toys. I’m sadly disappointed. I gave it two stars because the staff was wonderful!

I LOVE this place — it’s a great store for parents and teachers. The items they sell are most appropriate for children of preschool through elementary school age, about ages 2 to 10. The employees are very attentive, but they don’t hover. I had five offers for help when I shopped there yesterday! They have lots of art supplies, books, games, workbooks, classroom décor, manipulatives, and flashcards. They have great materials for teaching reading, language, writing, counting and money, telling time, sight words, phonics, social studies and science. On Saturdays they have a craft class for kids, and they make something different each week. We haven’t done that yet, but I saw the pencil pouch they made last week, and it was really cute. Many of their books are hardback, and a little more expensive than ordering through amazon. I’d like to see them expand their book section, and offer more softbound books to make them more affordable. This is a great store, and their online site at has even more products available.
