Really a great first experience. The manager heard we were there for the first time, and came out several times to see if we were enjoying ourselves, to give us treats, chat us up. I recommend this place for food and atmosphere. We ordered this avocado and shrimp appetizer, bloody Mary’s, fish tacos, and a tamale. All were exceptional. The tamale was more meat than dough, the salsa was fresh, avocados were perfectly ripe, and the tortillas… Omg. We ordered a plate of them… Just wanted to keep eating the tortillas… Yum.

What saved this review is the food. The fajitas are wonderful and the tortillas have that soft, floury taste– just like my grandmas. However, it took 40 minutes to get ½ pound of beef fajitas to-go. Waited at the bar and ordered a frozen margarita. It was not frozen. Though the bar staff was friendly and attentive. I will say, while the customer service wasn’t stellar initially, the kitchen manager Tim later hustled and took excellent care of my order. The restaurant ended up «comping» my meal, which speaks to the manager… However, it should never have to get to that point. I may try this specific location again, so this review could change.

Overall impression after getting take out tonight — decent food but oversalted. We ordered beef/chicken/shrimp fajitas, chicken tortilla soup, chile con queso. Everything except the chile con queso was just a little too salty — including the refried beans. Tastes okay the first few bites then it’s just whoah that’s kinda salty and I need to find other toppings to cut through the salt. The fajita meat was nicely grilled with a charred flavor. The shrimp have a spice on them so don’t give them to your kids because there’s a good kick. I wasn’t a big fan of their tortillas which are as thin as rice paper. The refried beans and charro beans tasted nicely of ham hock but again, just too salty. The chile con queso was runny but had a nice flavor. Chips are thin too. Salsa isn’t my favorite. Tastes like canned tomatoes and they are heavy on the cumin. As always, portions are generous. Count on a dish filling up one very hungry person or 1.5−2 normally hungry people.

Waited about 30 minutes for a table. Then another 30 mins for food. When it came out, it was not as ordered. Nacho chips were soggy and tough. Waiter wasn’t friendly and we had to ask for everything(chips, refills, etc.). Should’ve just cooked at home. Would be done and on to something else by now. Manager never came by during the long visit either. Many other options with better service nearby.

Beware of the green chicken enchiladas… ate them on Friday for lunch and developed the worst case of food poisoning.

This place is amazing, I’ve been a bit disenchanted with other mexican food places around town lately. I was first put off by this place it has a bit of a commercialized franchised vibe. I finally got around to giving it a chance and… holy cow! This is now my favorite mexican place in Houston. The fajitas are always flavorful, service is great. The queso is the best I’ve ever had. They even have a vegetarian menu that isnt just dishes minus meat. There are portabella mushroom fajitas that are fantastic. If I had one gripe it would be the lack of lettuce and bell peppers in the fajita offerings.

Best Fajitas I have ever had and excellent tortillas. The portions are huge and I like their margaritas. I would definitely come back.

Some positives and some negatives, leading to a flat 3-star rating. The positives: while not particularly strong, the Margaritas are hand-made and among the tastiest we’ve found in Houston. The Carne Asada was, without question, the best we’ve eaten in town. We were also disappointed that, instead of a salsa being served with the chips, we were served some beans and some pico de gallo.(Maybe you have to request the salsa?) The negatives: parking is totally insufficient for a restaurant with this seating capacity. It took us about 10 minutes of circling the block before finally finding a space. Service is very slow, on getting drinks, getting food, and getting our check. Other comments: No tortillas were offered. Enchiladas were nothing special – just okay. Noise level was high, but that’s probably true of every decent Mexican restaurant on a Friday night.

I enjoy this place. One of my favorite plates is the cilantro jalapeño chicken and the Chipotle ribs are the best

Over time, I have been less than impressed with service at this location. However, last night my family had a great experience with Shari. As my family was arriving, including one baby and one person in a scooter, we were struggling to fit in a table with poor location. Shari immediately noticed the spot we had would not work for us, and found us another table in the back room of the restaurant, with even more space, and not out of the way at all. Throughout the whole meal, even though we were tucked away in the back room, Shari provided exceptional service. She is a problem solver! For Shari, I would give her 5+ stars. However, I still don’t think likes fajitas are as good as they used to be.

Lupe is another one of the players in the over crowded segment of over priced Mexican restaurants in Houston. The service was absolutely terrible. The server hardly came to the table, when he did, Jose, had a terrible attitude. When we did get our meal(waited a bit on a not too busy Sunday night), everyone received their meal, but me(we had a party of 5). When he finally came to check on us, after I insisted my friends begin eating, I asked him if they forgot my meal. He insured me it was in the window and coming in a bit. After my friends had finished half their meal, I had to ask another server if the manager would come over. I had ordered tacos al carbon with no modifiers. How long can that really take? Finally, he came back with no urgency of getting me my meal. I asked him point blank, be honest with me and I will be forgiving, did you forget my meal. He blamed it on the computers going down while he was typing in the order and he said he did double check to see if it was in the computer. Clearly he did not check because we were about 15 minutes since the other people of my party had received their food. Finally the manager came over after having to ask again if she would come to the table. When she came over, she really did not really seem to listen to me. She basically said she was giving me my meal for free. She was not very apologetic. Needles to say, I will be going to El Tiempo down the street. Their fajita meat is pretty tasty, but that is about all they having going for them. Needless to say, I will not be going back and I will put my foot down if I have a group going there. Terrible service in a segment of the market that is over saturated is unforgivable.

Very impressed with the service. I’ve been a long fan of Lupe Tortilla, especially the fajitas and carne asada. We recently went to the location on Shepherd and almost never found a place to park. They were quite busy on this Friday night so we found a spot at the bar to wait. Our bartender was so nice and friendly we decided to stay put and eat at the bar– after all it is full service. The food was outstanding– as always. I ventured off the beaten path and had be mixed grill and was pleasantly surprised. I really appreciate good service — friendly service. Too many times we are made to feel like we are an inconvenience and the staff at Lupe Tortilla couldn’t have been any nicer. If parking wasn’t so cramped I would give them 5 stars.

Lupe’s is hands down my favorite Mexican food. It’s always where I bring any out of town guests for beef fajitas and queso. The service here has been hit or miss… there have been a few times the waiters are scarce because it’s so busy, so we don’t go when we’re in a hurry. I don’t mind when it’s slow so long as I have chips and a marg! 1 time we did have a pretty bad experience, the GM Rocky Foteh and the on duty manager more than made up for it, which we greatly appreciated. The food is 4 stars, the service could be if it were more consistent. But we’ll keep coming back!

Famous for their fajitas and Rita’s im sure, but I’m getting barbacoa tacos and grilled veggies! They give you charro brands with chips & salsa so hopefully I’m not full from this tasty prerequisite to my scrumptious meal. I’m treating myself today because I deserve it and this place has got my vote

I have come to this Lupe tortilla several times, but the last two times were the absolute worst. The last time was on a night when the Rockets were playing, and we got there at 920p.m., which I suppose is late @ Lupe. We sat at the bar with quite a few other folks and wanted to watch the end of the Rockets game. They had numerous TVs on, with no sound, which was okay I guess. The female bartender ignored us for a good 10 minutes until we flagged her down and ordered drinks. We knew what we wanted(fajitas) but she walked away without even asking us if we were ready to order. 15 min later we had two waters, and that’s about it. From there, the female bartender decided she wanted to start doing bar inventory, and we got handed off to a gentleman behind the bar. We eventually ordered, but it took awhile. 20 min later we had our food, no silverware, no napkins, no nada. By then it was getting close to 10, and all of the sudden the TV’s were turned off, and the lights were turned on, as if to say, get out of here. At this point, both of us were frustrated, and ready to go, so we again flagged down a bartender and were given the check. We paid with a $ 100, and got $ 20 back. Ummmmmm. Again, we had to ask for more change back, and off we went. The second time I went there I experienced the same girl and guy and horrible service. Based on these experiences, as much as I like the food, I’ll take my business to El Tiempo.

This place is just«ok», service is attentive, food is fine, drinks are fine — there really isn’t anything special. I personally think it’s overpriced for what you get and the overall atmosphere.

Overview: I’ve been here a few times and always get the fajitas. They are not the best I’ve had but they are good and satisfy the cravings. I would recommend trying this place if you haven’t been.

Went here for a lunch with a previous work colleague. The service was very good. The on the other hand was a little off. There are better place for Mexican food in the immediate area. I went for the lunch combo that came with a three items. They were all fine, nothing to write home about. It also came with refried beans, but cheese on the top. My preference is when it comes with a little queso fresco. Anyways food is not bad, just not good. Felt I could have gotten something similar at a fast food joint. Our waiter brought plenty of chips and kept the drinks flowing.
