Michael Kemper Salon

This review is for Duc Bui (hair), and her sisters Von Bui & Chi Buihong (nails). My mother and I have been going to see Duc for cut and color for nearly 10 years. She is a wonderful person and an even better stylist. She does GREAT color and people always comment on how natural my highlights appear. I have recommended Duc to several friends over the years, and all have had positive experiences with her. Duc is also great at updos and even did my hair for my wedding.
Since Michael Kemper closed, Duc and her two sisters have moved to Salon DUC (or DUC Salon???) at 3211 Edloe St. The salon is brand new (designed by Duc with the help of an architect/​contractor) with fresh interior and a very relaxing environment. It has a nicely landscaped courtyard and a beautiful view of the landscaping from the salon interior, as well an adjacent parking lot with ample (free) parking. It is much less stressful than getting in to see her at the former Highland Village location. I’m not sure she will be advertising, but I thought I would post this as a way for her former clients to know where she and her sisters have moved!

My husband has been coming to Chuck for about 3 years now. His hair grows very fast so that is every 3 weeks. I kept trying different stylists, 1 at this salon and several others as well. I wasn’t happy at all. My husband said try Chuck. I didn’t want to as I was afraid if I didn’t like him, it would adversely effect the relationship that he has but… I was very frustrated and said OK. I LOVE THE COLOR that Chuck did and the cut as well. Now, I am very particular but Chuck listened and gave me just what I wanted. BTW My daughter is a stylist as well in Florida and she is extraordinary so the bench mark is very high. Thank you Chuck!

I have been going to this salon for years! They are fabulous. Love Chris Olivier and of course Michael himself! Great location upstairs with perfect spot for people watching at Highlands below.

I tried two experienced stylists. Haircuts were very simple and didn’t add anything to my hairstyle. Highlights were «OKish»; however, the worst were the comments about my hair made by the hairstylist (Flo). On last my last visit, she kept saying that she needed to pick up her child from school, so she wouldn’t be able to finish my hair. My appointment was not done at the last minute. One would assume that a professional would make plans accordingly or change the appointment. While the ambiance is great and front desk staff is friendly, everything else needs great improvement.

My husband and I have been fans of this salon for at least 5 years now and never go anywhere else. The location in Highland Village is fabulous and the front desk and stylists are all very friendly and professional. I’ve never witnessed any of the salon drama that seems to be so common!
Our stylist is Duc, and I would highly recommend her for women, men, and children looking for anything from a trim to a complicated color treatment. We recently took our 2 year old daughter here for her first hair cut, and we were happy to spend $ 15 given she has thick curly hair and received 5 star treatment during the entire visit!

I was in desperate need of a haircut and since I was going to be in town figured I would go somewhere decent. Michael Kemper happened to be close to where I was staying so I called for an appt.
Jason booked my appt for me and recommended Holden. Unfortunately Holden was not available for the time that I could come so I booked an appt with Chuck.
I arrived about 25 min early due to not knowing how long it would take to drive there. The staff was very friendly and I was asked about 5 or 6 times in 20 min if I wanted coffee or water or a soda or if I was okay and comfortable.
Chuck came out to meet me about 5 min early… which is impressive for a salon. If he had an asst they were not working that day and he took care of everything himself.
It took about 30 min total for the shampoo, haircut, 2^nd shampoo, and style. He did a so-​so job. Of course I have weird hair and I was vague as to what I wanted… mainly cause I wasnt sure.
All in all it was a good experience. I will go back if I am in the area again. I may ask for Holden next time though… just to see if he is any better.
OH! FYI. you cannot leave a tip when paying with a credit card… so have cash handy or pay with a check!

I’ve been going to Flo at Michael Kemper’s for 30 years (yes, I’m an old lady now!!)… I’ve tried various salons around town, all the way from upscale, chi-​chi places (where the haircuts were more than my car payment), to the 4.99 places (just kidding)… BUT, I have sampled what Houston has to offer in the way of haircuts, color, etc. I keep coming back to Michael Kemper’s. The salon is always a peaceful, but cheery place, friendly and professional staff. I always leave happy and satisfied. The parking around Highland Village can be challenging, but since they built that little parking lot on Suffolk St just down from Jos A Banks, things seem a bit easier.

I’ve been coming here to see Mandy for over 4 years. The service is great and for the price I get an awesome cut. Her coloring is great too! This salon is a great bargain for the quality.

Never had a $ 40 hair cut before this…
So my gf decided to take me to get a «nice» hair cut since generally my hair get sheared by the lowest bidder, and she tends to like when my hair does not feel like a «brillo pad.» The place is nice, free parking right across the street, but it is defiantly an upscale place… I did not fit in at all with my stained jeans and target t-​shirt on. I will say that they did a really nice job on my hair. Shampoo, cut, style… all that comes with a haircut these days. I like that they used various scissors but avoided shaving my hair with a razor. This way at the end it was short enough without being too short and also still soft with layers. Only thing that keeps this place from being a 5 star is that I can’t get over the idea that going here regularly would quadrupole my annual hair cut budget!
