With a cute bohemian atmosphere, Muir Fine Arts Gallery is in a quaint setting and seemingly an ideal spot for an art gallery or studio. There’s plenty of natural light and shade from the trees outside. It just has that type of aura. Inside, there are several small rooms. The art is well-displayed with the lighting complementing each piece. The owner is a dichotomy, at first meeting coming across as a somewhat supercilious artist, totally keeping with the theme. All he needed was a brush in his hand and a glass of absinthe along with his beret to make you feel as though you’ve entered some van-gogh-esque time vortex. Having said that, he was actually very personable, albeit irascible, with a biting sense of humor. He was also an extraordinary salesman and very knowledgeable about the art displayed. Although the art shown here is primarily 20th century modern, there was a particular painting that captured my attention done in a classical style. It was absolutely beautiful. The owner made a reasonable suggestion for a down payment. To my great misfortune, I was called out of town early, completely forgot in the rush of travel adjustments until two days later; consequently, I never made it back. It’s my loss. There have been very few art galleries I’ve visited where the owner went out of his way to ensure the customer got the best deal. Muir is one of them and I look forward to going back when I’m next in the area. Anyone looking for 20th century art cannot go wrong. If you’re ready to dip your toe in the waters of art purchase, from time to time Muir hosts meet-and-greets with the artist allowing you the opportunity to hear about the work directly.
