I am waiting for my hubs while he has an outpatient procedure at the St. Luke’s Ambulatory Care Center and while my starvation-in-solidarity was nice before he went in(no food after midnight), at some point I’m in the waiting room and starving. I was pleased to find this in the lobby level. Over time, I’ve learned what there is to ear at various hospitals, and so I felt happy to find something healthy-ish and, bonus, tasty. Breakfast is over by 10:30, so get in before if you want that. I recommend the Chicken Pesto Panini

Murphy’s is the worst thing to happen to a sandwich since sliced bread.

The spicy turkey panini was tasty, but not spicy by my standards. Plenty of tables and no line at 11am. Convenient for days when I have appointments in the O’Quinn medical tower.

I stop by here when I want some quick lunch. This is better than subways in the medical center, IMO. It can be hard to find if you do not know where to look. The lines move quickly and the prices are reasonable.

We were here at lunchtime and I was amazed that the lines were not long at all, especially in a place where they will build your own sandwich. Perhaps the fact that this is tucked away in the back of the Medical Tower at St. Luke’s is why it seemed so empty. My sandwich was OK but I felt the wheat roll was a bit insubstantial and not dense enough somehow. I did however like the huge range of food available and would go back if in the area.

Recently, I have been working«normal» hours: the 7 to 4 type days. When I work this shift I can actually enjoy some of the places around the medical center that is open for only breakfast and lunch. This place is one of those that closes around 4 pm each day preventing evening shift people to enjoy their food. Even though I’m here during the day shift I don’t dare step foot in here for their peak lunch hours as the line is crazy. If you come around 1:30 — 2 pm the crowds have died down but they still continue to replenish the hot food area and they are still cranking out delicious sandwiches. It’s a little on the expensive side but their eggplant spread is to die for!

Now that I reside in the Medical Center Monday-Friday, I felt it was my obligation to review something there… so why not the deli in my building? I’ve always been a fan of Murphy’s Deli, mostly because they offer more than just sandwiches and this location has a good variety. They serve breakfast in the mornings and Starbucks coffee all day. They also have a cutie behind the sandwich counter which was nice enough to fix my sammy even when I was unknowingly cutting in line(note to self: new place, need to learn ordering rules)! Good and dependable and one elevator ride away from my desk… you can’t beat that! Next week Chipotle!!!

Well, I stop here quite frequently when arriving for work in the medical center. A long time favorite, Murphy’s in the St. Luke’s Medical Towers offers a good breakfast and lunch choice for those chained within the confines of the Houston Medical Center. What I like best is that you can get a good breakfast taco for only $ 1.99 as well as a deli sandwich at 7am if you are so inclined. What I don’t like is that if you wait until 9am to get said breakfast taco, you will be SOL if you want potatoes or meat products added to it. If you are late to work and need breakfast at Murphy’s, go for the breakfast sandwich with a slice of tomato. Egg and tomato on whole wheat bread rocks in lieu of the great TexMex b-fast taco. If you are feeling naughty, go for the dream brownie too. It’s a good mid-day bump of energy when toiling at the hospital.
