Polished Day Spa

I initially visited this salon when Shellac manicures became hot. I can’t remember when my first visit was, but I thinkit was late 2011 or early 2012. They did a great job and the lady who did my nails was very down-​to-​earth and friendly. They would always have cake or wine or something to offer customers and it had a spa «feel» to it.
However, the management/​ownership changed and my regular nail lady left. (She told me that the place had been sold and that she would be leaving soon before she left.) I continued to visit the salon, but I was disappointed with the quality of service. I got my eyebrows done and they were not shaped well at all. I also realized that they must not be using real Shellac products anymore because my manicures started peeling within 2 days instead of lasting for 14 like they should.
The ambiance of the place was still nice, but it didn’t have the same luxurious feel and I decided that it’s not worth the money if my manicure is not going to last. I can paint my nails at home if they are going to chip in 2 days. It is REALLY hard to find a place to do a good manicure in Houston.

When I went to this place, it was deserted. I had my nails done and it was average, the tech chit chatted and did her job well. I got Shellac when I came here and it didn’t last as long as it usually does for me. I tried to come back another day as a walk-​in and again it was deserted but they said they didn’t have any openings. It didn’t bother me too much, just a warning to everyone that you probably want to make an appointment beforehand. The ambiance was average.

Ever go somewhere and feel like your business is not as important as someone else’s? That’s exactly how they treated me.
Polished Day Spa have four spa chairs in the main lobby area. Calming music is playing, and it’s a generally relaxing area. When I came in, there were only two other people there, already in the chairs. I just naturally assumed that I would be there as well, however, they sent me to the back and put me in a practically empty room with two chairs. No music, no tvs, empty walls… nothing else but those chairs and sinks. A tad creepy? You bet! I’ve never been more grateful in my life to have brought my phone with me because without magazines, music or anything other than the person on the floor cleaning my feet, it would’ve just been extremely awkward.
The gentleman who did my pedicure did a fabulous job. He clearly knew what he was doing. The catch? The woman who did my manicure had obviously never done one prior to myself. She didn’t know what she was doing, and I guess the both of them didn’t realize that I can speak multiple languages because I could clearly understand that the gentleman was trying to walk this lady on what to do. Step by step, he told her to clean soak my cuticles, file my nails, etc. The result? Worst manicure I’ve ever received. Not only was the trimming of my cuticles painful (and I told her so), my nails were oddly shaped, and the polish was messy. They were bumpy, bubbly, sloppy, and just plain awful. It looked like the time I tried to do my nails while road tripping to NOLA.
To top it off, she left the sea salt scrub all over my arms and hands. I was stick and just annoyed by the whole experience. When I tried to ask her to fix my nails, she told me that they were very busy and had other appointments to take care of.
I just shook my head and reminded myself that yes, I bought a groupon. It wasn’t that much, and it would’ve been more had I gone to my normal nail salon. It doesn’t change the fact that I didn’t deserved a piss poor manicure.
When I went to the front desk, the receptionist was no where to be found. After standing there for roughly five minutes, I went up to one of the nail technicians and asked if I could show him my groupon and leave. The gentleman called for the receptionist girl (who, from her scowl and annoyed demeanor, clearly hates her job) and she finally checked me out. I asked if there was a sink I could use to wash the salt scrub off my hands and arms. She pointed in the general direction of the back. I wandered around, eventually found a restroom, washed up and went on my merry little way. Before I left, I tipped the gentleman who did my pedicure because he really did do a fabulous job.
I ended up dropping by my usual nail salon and asked if they could fix the disaster that were my fingernails. She did, of course, and laughed about how bad a job this other girl did. Really, they were THAT bad.
So, after all is said and done, if you decide to come here, make sure to get one of the guys! Make sure to dress up a bit too because if you come in yoga pants and a tank, they will think less of you and stick you in the backroom!

I bought a Groupon for a shiny mani-​pedi. I went this afternoon to get my pedi, and here are the pros and cons:
Pros: The guy doing the pedicure was very quiet and did a great job. The décor was really cute and the atmosphere was soothing.
Cons: The pedicure chairs do not have jets, so it’s basically just sitting water, but the biggest thing (which was mentioned in another review I read) was the cleanliness of the salon. There were piles of dead skin around the pedicure station, which really grossed me out.
So in short, I liked my pedicure but I was pretty put off by the dead skin crumbs, so I will probably not be going back.

I learned about this place through Bloomspot and bought a mani-​pedi voucher. It was done very efficiently and cleanly. The staff was nice and attentive. I was in and out of the place within an hour! I love when manicures and pedicures are both efficient and qualitatively worth it. My toes and hands feel great after a great massage that preceded the painting of my nails. It was all done while I read my kindle. I felt so relaxed and not at all awkward by a long exchange of words in a language I don’t know (often at other nail places). This was nice and just what I needed to start the week.
Next time, I’ll treat myself to Miyako’s sushi afterward :)

How could I not write a rave review when it was a gift and all I had to worry about was to relax?!
I had quite the day of beauty! I started out with an hour long facial! Now while this is a little pricey, it is well worth it! I mean… its your face! They will customize treatments according to your needs. Afterwards my skin was glowing and clean and fresh! I wish I could afford to be addicted! But until then, it will be a treat! Next up was an hour massage. I am not a huge fan of Swedish, so she went a little light on me and it was divine!!! What was different was the addition of some Thai massage. This style is more of a stretching and combined with the more traditional massage… was great!!!
The mani and pedi came up next! Hands down the best manicure I have ever had (pun intended)! I went for the gel (of course) and they looked perfect! The manicurist spent a lot of time and paid so much attention to detail! The color selection for gel is amazing… too many choices for this girl! The pedicure was mediocre. Not horrible, but not great. For that price, I definitely missed the spa chair. Although the chairs and basin are fine and clean… it’s no massage spa chair! I think the addition of spa chairs would round off this spa as top notch!
While the pricing is a little high compared to your run of the mill strip mall nail salon, it can be worth it to treat yourself!

This place was ok. The décor was kinda kitschy, which I liked. The guy who worked on me was professional, just too talky. He was ready at my appointment time, which I appreciate. I was trying to work, and he kept asking questions, not taking my «I’m not trying to talk» cues. At one point, I just stopped answering, and he explained, «I know, I’m really nosey.» Yeah, you are.
Nails looked good, but fingernails were peeling not even 24 hours later, and that’s not normal for me, and I had picked an OPI color. Hopefully the pedicure holds up better. I like the places where they do your pedicures and manicures at the same time, as it’s quicker.
They didn’t have pedicure chairs, just sofa chairs with bowls on the ground. Felt a little pedicure-​in-​the-​night. I probably won’t go back, even though it’s only a couple blocks from my house. It’s just that there are so damn many nail salons that it is possible to find one you really like. And this one wasn’t it for me.

I came here because I bought a $ 29 mani-​pedi Groupon. It is located next to Miyako on Kirby near the intersection of Richmond. I made an appointment on Christmas Eve and they were able to schedule it an hour after I called! I loved my experience here. When I got there, I filled out a form and they asked me what I wanted to drink before I started looking at colors. They have a huge variety of OPI and Essie colors to choose from and it took me forever to decide on two. I ended up choosing red and green for Christmas.
I can’t remember their names but I think Andy and Jason painted my nails and toenails. The foot bath was warm and relaxing and they used a sugar scrub on my legs and arms. This was my first pedicure and I loved how my skin felt afterwards. They sloughed off all the dead skin on my feet and my feet feel so soft and smooth now! They have dum dums, peppermints that melt in your mouth, and double bubble gum in glass jars for their customers.

My pedicure looked good and the guy that made my appointment at the front desk was great and very professional! Everyone was attentive and helpful, but two employees were sick that day and I was praying I wouldn’t catch anything from them. Two days later I came down with strep throat. I can’t say for sure that’s how I got sick, but I feel like it’s a high probability.
The guy that did my pedicure did a great job, but kept wiping his nose on his arm and asking me too many questions when all I wanted to do was relax after a long day at work. I didn’t want to sit there and discuss where I worked, how long my commute to work was, etc. And I was taken to a private room where they turned the TV onto the news on the whole time. How unrelaxing!
The place is decorated nice, but I didn’t really like the way it was decorated. It gave a very cold feel, not warm and welcoming. I just didn’t like the vibe or energy. And my pedicure chair was not comfortable at all. There are windows inside that show through to a vacant place in the strip center. I suggest putting up curtains there. And maybe curtains at the front windows too.
I didn’t like the location and I couldn’t park close. Anyways, due to the atmosphere, the parking, and that I got sick, I won’t be going back.

2^nd time going and would definitely go back The staff was very friendly and quality of mani and pedi are great.

I had received a postcard marketing this nail salon from The Do Bar and I decided to try it out.
The first think I noticed was the difference in atmosphere between Polished and your typical nail salon. The lighting is much lower, the smell is less offensive and everything seems very clean and that some effort was made when designing the space.
The second thing you notice is that the staff speak English which for me is a delight because that is my native language.
They have a large, very organized selection of polish, and services. You do pay a little more for the amenities, but IMHO they are worth it.

I went here the other day with my friend Anh, being a guy I can’t review the quality of french tips or Opi Gel? Two words that I have no meaning to me.
But, I can tell you this, the staff here is great, and they do a awesome job on your nails. The receptionist were engaging, and offered everyone that came in drinks while they waited. They were talkative, and didn’t make you feel like you’re sitting in a doctors office like some places do. I do have to poke fun at one of the receptionist, Vu, who was cruel enough to come in with some Oh My Gogi for his coworkers, my poor 2012 diet goals ruined.
I got Claudia, and my friend got Lindsey both of whom where wonderful to work with. The girls where fun and out going with our conversations. They really made you feel like a close friend while being pampered. Cluadia did a fantastic job on my nail length, which I am very picky about, and really got the blood flowing in my legs with her massage. Lindsey is hilarious, and I really enjoyed laughing with her. Lindsey this is your reminder to wear green on Saint Patrick’s day!
Unfortunately, I can’t really go into the details, because I’m a guy and I basically just let the experts handle everything, but I will say this is one of the better places I’ve been to, and I plan to go back for a facial sometime soon.
My only complaint is the price, but given the area I’d say it’s competitive, but not on students budget.

This place is fantastic! It’s extremely CLEAN (she even let me keep «my» nail buff and file). They use basin tubs for pedicures and an autoclave.
I got the Opi Gel manicure with Lindsey — she is incredible. The conversation was easy, she was so detailed and my nails look fantastic. I love that she took her time and made sure they looked perfect. LINDSEY IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
They may be a few bucks above average for the manicure, but it’s well worth it for the cleanliness and attention to detail. The décor is also modern Victorian and beautiful. I did check in and get 10% off :)

after a long scuba diving trip in Honduras, I was ready to unwind and get a great mani/​pedi since my feet, legs, arms and hands needed some TLC. My regular spa was booked till sunday, so I looked up on Unilocal to find a place that had great service.
They had an opening for me and a friend and asked for a credit card. thats seemed strange to me for a mani/​pedi place, but this was new. I should have known when we showed up and there was 1 other customer in a very empty place that this was mot likely not my cup of tea. The folks here are very nice, however the mani/​pedi was less than impressive. My pedi took 20 minutes, which was a surprise, since I usually spend a minimum 45 getting a great pedi. I was so disappointed, I cancelled my shellac and opted for a regular mani, since I was pretty sure it would also be disappointing .it was.
I think this is the place to go if your looking for atmosphere and a fun day with the girls for a wedding or girls weekend. still not sure.
next time, ill op to wait and go with my regular spa, which does a much better job and is also less expensive.
another disappointment was no spa chairs for massage. They do have m & ms if thats your thing.
on a positive note, my guy friend that came along, said he enjoyed his mani/​pedi, so maybe it was the service I received. Nice enough young lady, just not impressed.

This place had an extensive collection of great quality nail polishes (OPI, Essie and zoya) and I really liked the way my nails looked. It’s a perfect place to go with a girlfriend and catch up because the pedicure chairs face each other.
The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is because it cost $ 60 for a mani/​pedi (the cheapest options) and I think that’s a bit expensive considering the price of other places. I guess that’s the price you pay for places with Spa in the name.
EDIT: My apologies, the cheapest combo is $ 45.

I’ve put off writing this review because I don’t believe that you can make good judgments regarding patronage from your first visit… That being said. I was delighted with my first visit to Polished. I was greeted right away and offered refreshments while I waited (I was early 20 minutes and the manicurist was ready to take me in just 10 minutes) I noted the cleanliness of the décor and space which I think is essential for a spa.
Something was missing from the salon and I couldn’t figure it out until I was seated in my manicurist’s station… I didn’t smell that disgusting acrylic! Oh gosh, every salon I’ve ever visited smelled like this until I visited Polished. I asked my manicurist why, and she said that Polished didn’t work with acrylic fake nails. LOL. I’m kind of a snob when it comes to manicures and I’ve always felt like those acrylic «solar» nails looked so cheap. I imagine the owner of Polished feels that way too:) If not then maybe she realizes that the fumes are not pleasant and would rather not sit in a salon that smelled that way. Either way it ‘s +1 point for Polished.
The manicurist suggested Shellac nail polish and I went with her suggestion. The manicure was beautiful. Most are, but I was impressed with the technicians efficiency and skill. She managed to paint my entire nail without missing the very edges or getting paint on my cuticles… drives me crazy when I have to ask a technician to go over the nail again. Best of all the manicure lasted 3 weeks! No chips or breakage which is uncommon in my case because my nails are weak.

I went in for my second visit same salutation with my name added to it:) I again came in early and didn’t have to wait long for my manicurist… She complimented me on my nail bed and how long my nails were, which as I said earlier was never the case before because my nails were so frail.
Same great service this time I asked for a pedicure in addition to my manicure, (with-​out booking it I have to add) the front desk girl quickly had a station set up around my feet. LOL, I didn’t really think I could swing that, but I figured it was worth a try. The foot scrub and lotions they used were absolutely gorgeous. And my french pedicure was so pretty. I know that I was thoughtless in asking for the service, and I don’t recommend doing that, but it’s nice that the front desk girl took care to make it happen.
I’ve had a total of 4 visits, and I was early to them all (I think they expect that now) same great service, and results. Now I can justify to my fiancé having spa visits part of our monthly budget.
I plan on taking my wedding party in for pampering the day before our wedding. I’m so happy to have found this gem. The staff is refreshingly approachable (especially for the area) and quick witted, Luiza is a dime!
Finally, I will conclude with: Hell yes, Polished is good. I’m a huge fan.
And I recommend Polished to all my girlfriends.

Best pedicure I’ve ever gotten! Or at least the prettiest and longest lasting.
I’ve gotten pedicures on a regular basis for years and have never been so impressed with one. I actually ended up dressing around my pedicure for about a week just to show off my toes (lots of open toe heels).
When I was trying to figure out why I was so happy with Polished, I realized that not once was I uncomfortable or in pain during my pedicure (usually even the best places can hurt a bit when massaging or removing callouses). Additionally, my pedicurist was talkative when I asked her questions but otherwise left me alone to my magazine and cucumber water. The salon itself was large, modern and a refreshing change from the usual nail salon set-​up. It was also blissfully quiet.
I got the regular pedicure for $ 35, which I feel is an extremely reasonable price for the service. I will definitely visit again.

The salon is new, clean, and gorgeous… and the staff is super friendly… and English-​speaking.:)
As soon as I arrived, I was offered water, soda, hot tea, and coffee by the owner as a sat at Luiza’s station for my Shellac manicure. Luiza was amazing (skills AND personality), and the salon had every color offered by Shellac… even the newest ones released! I love Shellac, and have found that even though salons say they provide Shellac manicures… they usually only have a few colors to choose from. This was NOT the case at Polished. They had an entire set of Shellac, and an entire wall of OPI, China Glaze, and more. The price was very reasonable too ($ 35 for my Shellac manicure). I will never go anywhere else as long as I’m in Houston!

The BEST!!!
First off, I’m weird, I hate going to nail places by myself. Not to sound stereotypical, but if the nail technicians are speaking another language, I always think they are talking about me! To make a long story short, a friend told me about this place one afternoon while we were at the Miyako’s happy hour (which is right next door to the spa, whoo-​hoo!!), so I decided to swing by about 2 weeks later when I got off of work early.
I think I found my new place! I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all, everyone spoke English, and they have shellac! It’s the most unbelievable thing, this polish stays on forever. I have to do a bit of manual labor at work such as cutting boxes and putting up inventory, and whereas my nails would have chipped right away with basic polish, this stuff just keeps on going! You really have to see it to believe it. The neatest thing is I only have to go twice a month as opposed to 4, AND I never have to feel self-​conscious about my nails anymore (embarrasing chips, anyone?)
Anyhow, I think my serial-​nail-​spa hopping reign has ended. The next thing I want to try is their re-​hydrating facial. I’m so excited!

I stopped by Polished Day Spa last week, in major need of some brow waxing. At first I was embarrassed to even make an appointment, since it’s been months since I’ve last touched them. But my experience was very well worth the wait.
Claudia, my esthetician, was extremely professional and made me feel right at home. Her room had such a calming and relaxing aura that I just wanted to fall right asleep. She asked me questions about my shaping preferences, sensitivity to wax, etc… She even took the time out to explain what shape she thought looked best on me and how to maintain the upkeep at home.
The end result? Perfectly groomed and shaped brows that no longer scared anyone away, including myself! Claudia did an amazing job and really listened to what I wanted.
Can’t wait to come back!
