Randalls

Randall’s to me is just another grocery store. Yeah, my feeling about this particular one is very similar to most reviewers.
I’m here mostly after work. Just like Eddie S, I come close to midnight except I didn’t care to know who’s who. The night crew here are constantly changing, including security guards. I felt bad for them working hard all night. I often tried to cheer them up but they hardly get the jokes.
I didn’t need to wait in the long line because most of nights were fairly empty. If I see a line, I’ll just leave. There isn’t anything that I desperately need. I often see sales items on weekly circulars. I usually come here on Wednesdays to catch them at the beginning of sales week. I kick myself if I waited when the sales item ran out on Tuesday.
This store doesn’t have attractive clearance items, especially with those orange tags. The prices are confusing. Smart way to do is take a clearance item to compare with what’s on the shelf. I often get disgusted when I can find better priced item on the shelves.
Overall, I tolerate those downsides, because there are still some good values at the store. I’m here for those Apple Tree Fresh Pressed apple juices during the Buy 5 Save More events.

I have to say that I’m a Kroger’s fan and type of girl, occasionally when I’m in the area I stop in here to pick up a few items. For the most part, the store is very sufficient and prices are ok, however it never fells that there is not enough cashiers or shall I say lines open for the store volume. Staff and employees are suitable but the lines are always backed up…

Ever since we moved our office further west, this is the closest grocery store to me now. I used to always visit the Kroger on 43^rd. I generally enjoy shopping at Kroger over Randalls, first off because of the price. Also, this particular location, the cashiers seem to be really moody. I can pick up a few items here but generally, I’ll still make the drive to the further Kroger.

I really have tried for years to give our local Randalls business and I do based on a few good things and good sales. as well as excellent fried chicken not to mention its blocks away from my home… but I do not know WHY they are so poorly staffed. not enough cashiers– there is always a wait.

Fairly decent for 34^th st, clean and well stocked, though the check out lines are always super long. It never seems that busy, so I assume understaffed to save some money, but ugh…

Probably not one of the better Randall’s out there.
Every time I come here, there’s not a whole lot of people shopping here, but yet, the lines always take too long. And if you actually need to wait for customer service (I needed to get some stamps,) then good luck! I had to wait almost 20 minutes before I was able to get my stamps. And they don’t sell them individually, just by the book of 20s! Why was it taking so long? Well, because there was only one person behind the counter even though during my wait time, several employees could be seen behind the counter. But I guess they were just there for whatever.
They need to add a self check out lanes to speed up the check out process for people who don’t buy groceries for the whole month (translation: me.) At the Westheimer/​S. Gessner location, even though there’s a lot more people shopping here, I’ve always been able to check out quickly thanks to the self check out lanes. Maybe this location will add them soon.

Ran in for a quick lunch pick up. The 3 star rating is excluding the cost. We all know Randall’s is overpriced vs. HEB, Kroger’s etc.
Store is very clean & well organized. Grabbed some brocllii salad & pita chips, and something else I can’t remember LOL…
Anyhoo. it was a good quick lunch fix. The store was pretty empty so service was quick & friendly.

If you like fried chicken, I recommend you get some here. Seriously, it’s delicious. Watch the circulars and you can sometimes get an 8 piece dinner for just $ 5.
Randalls, overall, is a little more expensive than HEB and Kroger; however, they have excellent sales, such as 10 for $ 10, $ 5 Fridays, Meat Stock-​Up sale, and more. If you are willing to buy produce that’s in season and plan your menu around the sale items, you can shop here on a budget with no problem.
The Randalls store brand items are consistently high-​quality, the produce is always fresh, and the store is kept neat and clean. I really enjoy shopping here, and it’s way less busy than the Kroger on 11^th or 43^rd, so I can get in and out quickly.
Give Randalls a chance. If you try it, you might like it!

This place does not even deserve 1 star. This review is only for the bakery section.
Having to order 20 dozens of cookies every month has been a hassle because even if you call 1 week ahead of time to order the cookies, for them to have the correct amount, and making sure that they will actually have my cookies there. Then the day of my pickup, I would call them to make sure that they won’t forget about my order and telling them that I need to pick them up at 2:00 p.m. for a meeting. Well, why is it that every single time, they keep lying. They would tell me that the cookies are boxed up and ready to go but they aren’t. I’ve complained to the manager and it is still the same every time. They have lost me as a customer. I rather go somewhere else for my orders.

Like a previous poster noted… the service is slow. I know they specifically mentioned the customer service desk, but that’s not the only issue. Even with registers, they rarely have enough people working the register so you can almost always count on waiting in line at a register. Sometimes, that may be the only register open. :-/​And when they do have 2 registers open, the people working them seem to think you like standing in line waiting because they are certainly not in any hurry to keep the line moving.
And for my biggest complaint with ALL Randall’s stores… the card. I have to let them track every purchase I make or they jack up the price on me. Example… I bought 5 items and the price was $ 22. After inputting my card, the price dropped to $ 17. They are willing to overcharge me $ 5 if I am not willing to let them track my every purchase! What a crock! That is why I rarely shop at Randalls (or Kroger). The price they charge if you use their card is no better than Walgreens or HEB, and I don’t need a card at those places to get that price! I will always hate Randalls as long as they insist on overcharging people who don’t wish to have their purchases tracked.

I don’t come here often, because Randall’s in general is more expensive than HEB and this one in particular is SO SLOW. I’d you’re in a hurry, go somewhere else. The cashiers are usually friendly, but it still doesn’t make up for waiting 20 mins in the express lane to buy a gallon of milk.

Randall’s is SO expensive, and this one that borders a lower income neighborhood is no exception. Groceries are groceries, so I go as cheap as possible on mine. I don’t need organic and grass fed because my cooking isn’t good enough to warrant all that fancy stuff. I only come in when I require some obscure item and I don’t want to drive very far, IE to HEB Bunker Hill or Kroger on Ella.
I will advocate for the Safeway brand frozen pizzas they sell here. They have BBQ Chicken and Alfredo Chicken pizza in this store brand for $ 3.99 and they are better than most frozen pizza I have tried. You can also get some great deals on day-​old bread from the bakery that they are trying to sell quick. If you’re looking for a loaf of bread for dinner that night, look on the «we baked too much rack» and you can save up to 75% and not sacrifice much, if any, freshness. This location also has one open deep freezer near the refrigerated juice that always has yogurts and cheeses that are about to expire and discounted. I’ve gotten Chobani and Dannon greek yogurts for as low as 25 cents each. Just make sure you eat them within a few days of purchasing.
The service desk seems especially slow. I’ve waited for 10 minutes or more on each instance of visiting. Once I needed to return an item and once I needed to get my car registration sticker. The line is always long and filled with people paying a handfull of bills and feel the need to argue with the Randall’s employees about the fees associated with paying bills this way. Pay online, skip fees. You’re welcome.

At the time that I come into this store it always seems to be clean and always uncrowded (11 pm). The workers here are pretty much all generally nice except when the regular night time cashier Sean is off. When he is off you instead get greeted by a Wanaynay, Wanona *shrug* one of those names that you do not see but maybe once in your life. This lady seems to always have this demanding tone of «Give me your basket» or «YOU GOTS 15 MINUTES TO GET YO STUFF» even when it’s only 11:30pm and the store closes at midnight. Everybody else has a courtesy attitude and out of the 10 times I probably had to deal with her I think there were probably about 2 times that where she seemed on the customer skill level as her co workers.
The isles are always clean and clutter free when I get here at 11:30. Parking is never an issue and most of the time security is in full detailed view of the cars. It is not the best neighborhood and the street walkers seem to like to parade up and down the road but security can always be seen in their golf carts doing what they’re supposed to do.

Slow lines only two registers open and the managers special meat should be thrown away. Received some hey meat there but took it back. The cashier didn’t want to accept it after I took it back. Customer service was closed but yet I went to return meat another time and the cashier did refund my money at the line. Some will do and others won’t.

This has to be one of the worst grocery stores! They are constantly understaffed, quite frequently only having two lines open with people waiting into the store’s aisles. I’ve seen managers walk right by and not do anything about the situation many times.
One of the only reasons I continue to shop here is because it is conveniently located about three minutes from my house. I should learn from my experiences dealing with the overpriced, understaffed chain, but apparently I’m a glutton for punishment.
Oh, and make sure to check the expiration dates! I got some expired tortillas there by mistake before.
