This used to be the best club in Houston! It’s a shame it’s now closed. I wonder what happened? When my friends and I used to go weekly in the 90’s the line was always long to get in. I was just wondering about it so I checked Unilocal, the reviews are hard to believe however things change.

$ 20 entrance is ok, but $ 20 for water? Also, they don’t sell alcohol just water. Too many guys and not enough girls. I won’t go there next time. This club just ruined Halloween party.

I hate both Rich’s and Stereo Live but Stereo Live is slightly better until one incident that completely turned me off in May. Anyway, Rich’s is filthy. I don’t really pay to see two club rat girls making out on stage, craving attention. I pay to see my favorite DJ spin some music. I don’t care about unisex bathrooms. I care when grown ass men and women don’t know how to properly aim and piss all over the floors and seats. The drinks are watered down and it is douche bag central. I’d rather go to the outdoor patio and second hand smoke than be in a room full of guys creeping super hard on other women. Parking is bad if you don’t want to pay. A bunch of homeless people, wanna-be thugs, and just overall dangerous. Your car will probably be broken into. My friend didn’t want to give a homeless guy money and we were harassed going into Rich’s and leaving Rich’s.

It’s Thursday night. I’m in downtown for a workshop and am done around 10. I’ve had coffee against better judgment — my heart’s jumping like Thumper on a trampoline. So I decide that I need to dance. Actually, I’ve been wanting to dance for days and bouncing around my room to Pandora isn’t cutting it anymore so time to hit a club. Yes, by myself. Put on makeup, and decide on Meteor as my first stop. Parked. Stepped in, got the wristband, looked around, stepped out, drove away, 10:30pm. The venue is decent but the floor is more a stage than a floor. Heard about Rich’s on the radio and headed back that way. Found parking across the street near Status and decided to check it out on the way, why not — stepped in, got the wristband, looked around, stepped out, walked away, 10:55pm. Run down and feels like a barn(right, barn, not bar), although selling 30 cent drinks. So for 3 drinks, do you pay $ 4 including tip? Alcohol that cheap can’t be good for anybody. Walked across the street and slid into Rich’s 3 mins past 11(ladies free till 11 all wknd, or is it ladies free all night on Thursdays? Anyway, Thurs is College Night — I did see a couple of men in their 40s but they didn’t appear to be predatory DOMs — dirty old men) after being greeted by the friendly bouncer David. Lean, sharp, bright, and best of all, none of that bouncer-on-power-trip-bs. Walked in to find no one dancing. Climbed up the stairs. Nice dance floor and 3 floors of couches and tables with third floor seats providing enough privacy if desired. DJ Riddler was spinning for fm95.7 — good stuff. Some of the boys started lighting their footwork. I got my dancing in. Or out, I should say. On? Then Carmen Contreras announced the money giveaway, and dollar bills soon rained from the hanging disco ball. What a sight to see frozen bodies(read: people not dancing) come alive to grab at money. Not that I was above it but I did laugh for a good while, yes, at myself included. Oh, a decently dressed crowd for the most part, esp girls. Not sure whether the DJ did this on purpose — because I was the only girl dancing — but I appreciated it nonetheless: the third song after I got on the floor was a Gangnam Style remix, haha. Represent. An hour of workout before turning in — a fun, fun night! Will be back :) Oh, nota bene: Street parking. Beware scary, angry, accosting vagrants. I parked my car and couldn’t get out so had to move my car and re-park.

I’ve never been here on any other night except on Stereo Fridays to see some of my favorite DJ’s. Let’s see… at Rich’s I’ve seen ATB, Morgan Page, Gabriel & Dresden, Kaskade, Klaas, Ferry Corsten, Victor Calderone, Roger Sanchez, Dash Berlin, Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate, Marcus Schultz… oh man. The list goes on. This is the ONLY good thing I have to say about Rich’s — the DJ’s show up and do what they do best. Save yourself a bit of money and buy pre-sales online. Parking lot down the street is sketchy, very… very sketchy. I caught a homeless person(they appeared to be homeless, maybe they were leaving the same show as me… I don’t know) looking inside of my car. My friend noticed and yelled at him… after that, he took off from us as if he was born to run. Rich’s is certainly not in the best area of Midtown. The attitudes of the bouncers crack me up! They try to act like they’re so superior. Am I the only one who picks up on the silly looks on their faces? Who do they think they’re scaring? One of the first times I went here with a group of my friends from New Orleans years ago, one of the bouncers had the audacity to ask for $ 20 from one of my friends because his ID was expired by ONE day. My friend laughed in his face and proceeded to walk in with the rest of our group. That was CLASSIC. Classic, classic, classic(please stay tuned for what happened later that night, even more classic!) I think that same bouncer is still working for Rich’s too(years later) What a winner. They overwork themselves yet they’re underpaid. I guess that’s why they ask for extra money on top of the cover charge from random guys coming here. Sad story I must say, but they have to put food on their tables somehow I suppose. Not the brightest future. Bless their hearts. Moving onto the door girls — some of them are total bimbos… I think maybe a few times some of them were down to earth and just doing their job, but most of the time the expressions on their faces look as though they’ve just had a shot or two of Botox. Um…unisex bathrooms? Yea, that’s not weird at all. Drugs? Oh you’ll have no problem finding them here. Personally, I am above the influence of narcotics. I have been offered everything from marijuana, cocaine, to ecstasy in plain view. Thanks, but no thanks. I would probably drop dead moments later if I did chose to take them. I wouldn’t advise taking them. Drinks: For a SMALL mixed drink, I don’t mind paying the $ 8(that’s just part of going out — inflation on everything) but you better know how to make it correctly. Don’t put more cranberry than vodka unless that’s what you’re asked to do. Speaking of drinks — this is why I asked you to stay tuned earlier… around 2:00 A. M, my same friend that laughed in the bouncer’s face had his drink snatched out of his hand right after he ordered it by the same bouncer(keep in mind he wasn’t aware of the drinking laws after 2 here in TX) he felt like that was an insult and tapped him on his back and said, «Hey asshole» grabbed the drink and splashed it on his shirt! The bouncer yelled something at him, pointed to the door looking while looking like he was about to cry and told my friend to leave, but we were already heading out anyway. AHHHHH. The sequence of events that night was just hysterical. Dance floor is small and gets crowded quick. I watched someone try to dig into a girl’s purse, but lucky for her — she turned around JUST in time. Watch your belongings, watch your back… along with your ass. Once, a girl told me I had a cute ass and asked if she could grind on it. I replied with, «You’re so classy» She caught on to the sarcasm, looked insulted and walked away. Mission accomplished. Let me also put this out there — hold hands and give a quick kiss to your girlfriend in this establishment if you dare, in a matter of seconds you will be asked«to have a threesome.» Who says that? Are we in middle school or what? Guys here see two girls together and feel the need to act a fool. Be mature. Leave the lesbians alone, there are so many straight girls here, I mean really. Talk about barking up the wrong tree. I prefer Stereo Live over Rich’s, but Stereo Live still isn’t all that better. To be honest — I don’t think I’ll ever go back to this hot mess unless one of my friends drags me, and I do mean –literally– drags me out. I’m 21, almost out of college only to go back for my Master’s and getting way too old to surround myself with the madness! Rich’s is «DB» central. Hoards of wanna-be’s, can’t be’s and never will-be’s. Barely legal(maybe even underage) skanks in their skank attire, old creepers(both men and women) trying to fit in, and then you have the people shaking their heads at what is going on around them(I am one of those people). All of my fellow EDM lovers that will be coming here for the first time — come here to enjoy the MUSIC. Block everything else out if you can help it.

Um… I’m not sure what to say about this place. Some friends and I who are costumers were asked to come hang out in costume… so we did. We were told to be there by 10… so we stood around for about 90 mins or so until people actually showed up. It was interesting, but everyone there seemed young, i.e. not old enough to drink. Oh, and I got offered weed by some random guys… so there’s that. I’d go back for free perhaps, but I wouldn’t pay to go.

I used to be one of Rich’s most frequent visitors back in my 18 – 20 year old days! That was back when it was still a gay bar(on certain nights) and played awesome music to dance to! My girls and I would dance it up at Rich’s every Thursday night! I wouldn’t go back to Rich’s now though, ever. I’m too old for any 18 and up club, haha. Have their restrooms improved at all? They were the pits when I used to go. So gross. Anyways…thanks Rich’s, for the memories. :)

You will NEVER, EVER — and I mean NEVER, EVER catch me here for after-hours or on any night unless there is a concert there. But for a concert venue, I LOVE this place. It’s just the perfect size and perfect layout for dj’s to come and play and for us fans to dance. Close enough to the DJ to feel a part of the show too. I’ve seen countless shows here, including Steve Aoki, Dillon Francis, Morgan Page and the Glitch Mob. With the electronic dance music(«EDM») scene still trying to pick up in Houston, the moderately-smaller venue means the shows«fill up» quickly. Nothing makes a concert experience go sour like dancing alone… I’ve never dealt with a douchey bouncer or bitchy bartenders. Sometimes to draw people into the club before shows they’ll throw some $ 1-before-midnight specials. Drinks are reasonable. They just have the bar set up that you need to close your bar tab with the same person you opened it with. Not sure why… Now as many reviewers have pointed out the lack in ideal bar crowd, I can’t comment on that as the shows I go to draws people who share the same taste in music as me(for EDM shows, expect the hipsters and the ravers). I could do without the dancers in the cages, but whatever helps them support their way through college… I love the pointy badass giant disco ball although the thought of it one day crashing down while I’m dancing has crossed my mind a few times. Bathrooms are limited. There’s always a line and there’s always a stall that’s not working. It’s annoying because I’d rather be dancing than waiting to pee. The club in general is just dirty. But as long as you’re not licking door knobs or picking up food from the floor then you should be fine. Heh. To all you ladies, BECAREFUL. That part of Midtown is shady. The clubs and bars around there have thuggish-ho-ish people going to them. Homeless guys will approach you. If your show goes beyond 2am, cabs are limited. Lock your car doors, be aware of your surroundings. Anyway, I hope Rich’s continues to keep bringing amazing EDM acts to their place! RAGEONPEOPLE!

This place is terrible, especially for a single guy. Do not come here trying to pick up chicks, because although there is some eye candy here, they are all in groups, with guys, or unapproachable altogether. Our first experience here was with the bouncer. He wouldn’t let my friend in because he was wearing polo boots and straight out asked for a $ 20 bribe. Not wanting to ditch us, my friend paid and then on top of that paid a $ 10 cover charge. Even 21+ paid the cover. Then inside, all the girls were snobby and wouldn’t dance with anyone except the people they came with. What kind of club is like that?! Finally, the crowd was very thin and there were barely any people there for a Friday night. I think maybe 10 people were dancing, tops. Avoid this place unless you like ghetto places that are not fun, a rip-off, and lame.

If there was any way to not give any stars at all to this place, I would. This is the place where women’s rights(which some of us have been fighting for so long!) go to die. They die when we choose to disrespect ourselves and our bodies in such a vulgar manner! I wish I was exaggerating but what I saw at this place was seriously degrading to my very being. It’s really sad actually. If we don’t respect ourselves, no one else will. This is becoming a rant, so I’ll try to focus on the place. I actually took some pictures while I was there but decided not to post because I’m pretty sure they would(and rightly should) get flagged down or reported for content. It is truly a shame this goes on because the place itself is really cool and the music was really awesome too. It’s just people’s behaviors that was horrendous. If you have certain urges, don’t deal with them in public… it’s gross…

I have tried to like Rich’s…I really have. It’s a great place for the most part, but its popularity has killed it. When I went for Halloween one year, it was $ 25 cover… seriously? That’s just retarded. Once inside, we didn’t stay more than 30 min. or so before we decided to leave. Just wasn’t feeling the vibe. Another attempt at Rich’s, we were able to get in free(thank God) because my brother knew someone there. I was NOT about to pay a ridiculous cover again(and yes, I am aware it was higher due to an event). Well, thankfully I enjoyed myself a bit more, but I have to ask. What seriously is with everyone’s «I’m better than you» attitude? I thought going out was supposed to be about meeting people and having fun? But everyone seemed to stick to their little«cliques.» I ventured away from my brother and found a room upstairs and I wouldn’t have known existed unless I had explored. Turned out to the Tranny room and honestly, I had a better time in there than the main floor. Everyone was laughing and having a good time. Eventually I went back downstairs on the main floor and was immediately flocked by horny guys grabbing all on me. I didn’t want any part of it. Once again, what happened to having fun and meeting people? I felt like I was in the middle of a sausage fest and I was their meal. Then, the guys have the audacity to ask me «what’s wrong?» Oh, I don’t know… maybe the fact you’re practically trying to rape me on the dance floor. I quickly just left them dumbfounded. My advice? Avoid large events. Go when you know you’ll be able to find parking, otherwise it really isn’t worth the hype and overpriced drinks. When did dancing become nothing but bumping, grinding, and grabbing?

Rich’s used to be my clubbing spot 2years ago. I went there last night with the girls since it was free to get in. I really wonder if the crowd is in middle school or high school ??? They all look extremely young !! I remember it used to have more older crowd with more attractive people. I guess The 18&up clubs are not for me anymore. Music was okay. I don’t really have much to say but rich’s is going downhill ! I think I will just stick in Washington ave from now on.

If you are 21 or older DONOT go there. I repeat if you are 21 or older DONOT go there! I was there yesterday with my friends, bunch of 18years old(that all look 16) were jumping around. I felt like a very old lady there to babysit them. And I am only 23 that is the messed up thing! I think the club looks decent, music was decent. They have 3 rooms and the 2 rooms upstairs were freaky small. I give it one star because we did not wait in line and got right in and I kind of like the setting. and because there is no ways to give less than a star. F.y.i if you want to wonder all night if the girls you are dancing with have a dangling thing between their legs then go there… Ya…Lot of transexuals.

If you’re into dance music, a bangin’ sound system, loads of eye-candy, and an overall good time, then Rich’s is the spot to be(at least on Fridays, I can’t really speak for Thursdays and Saturdays as I’ve never been on those nights). I try to make it out here monthly, with the last time being in November for Bad Boy Bill, who totally rocked the place. Staff’s very friendly and on top of things, especially the bartender that took care of me last time I went(Michelle I think her name was). My best piece of advice would be to get there early, and save yourself some $$$ by buying pre-sales online. they usually go for $ 5 or $ 10, with the door charge being $ 20. All in all, I make it a point to hit this place up anytime I go to Houston. it’s always good times :)

If you like House music, Electro, or just plain good clubbin, you’ll love Rich’s. On Fridays, there’s always a big headlining DJ like Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto or ATB. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are the nights they’re open but they also have«Nightclub Cardio» on Wednesdays at 6 which is a great way to burn some calories and have a good time. It’s a bit younger crowd but always a good time. the club has been there 30 years. They have to be doing something right. Average age is probably 22

I tend to put bad experiences out of my memory as soon as possible so as not to let them further ruin my peace of mind, then realized how biased my collection of reviews have become and how I am possibly missing the chance from saving other souls from similar crappy experiences. Riches has gone beyond the terrible snobbery becoming more prevalent at clubs to downright outrageousness. I’ve been here a few times before a couple of years ago and have been able to withstand the wait in line to enjoy the spacious club and it’s great music. When a group of about 9 people at a closing karaōke bar suggested Riches as an after hour option I thought why not? Mistake! There was a considerable line around 2am on a Saturday night. Seeing as part of our split group was already inside we decided to chance our luck and approach the bouncer. During the«negotiations» the bouncer demanded $ 100 dollars to allow entry for 4 guys. Talk about absurd. Well, us girls got in no problem but then had to wait in line to pay the $ 10 per person cover charge. Next to us was a separate line of people who had no cover if they are with a party, however that line guy was just letting in his friends and any girls who wore revealing enough clothes. Some things never change. After paying my cover charge I went to the ATM to withdraw cash to see if we can come out and get the guys in. At the door we spoke to another bouncer who accepted our $ 60 to let in the 3 guys who were still around. After taking our money he spoke to yet another bouncer who was by the red rope to let them in, when the original bouncer turned around and made a «kill motion» across his neck. Our money was returned to us and entry was denied. By this point we were pretty fed up with the whole fiasco. After talking to the guys we found out that they did come up with the original $ 100 but the bouncer then stated that for $ 100 he will only allow 3 guys to come in, leaving the other 1 – 2 guys high and dry. Remember that there is still an additional formal cover charge inside per person on top of what the bouncer is demanding. Seriously Riches? When did greediness become an outright acceptable business practice? Now I’m not sure if the difficulties had anything to do with our group being all Asian(with the exception of 1 guy) but I do have a nagging suspicion that was the case. Otherwise why raise the ante when the original demands were already met? It becomes kind of apparent that we were not welcomed or not wanted at this place. Sadly my girlfriend and I had already paid $ 20 bucks total for the privileged of standing for 15 min. in line inside so they can rip us off. We called it a night and everyone went their own ways. I tried not to let the ending spoil the priorly splendid evening but weeks later the whole escapade still makes me a bit queasy with an equal measure of anger and shock. Over a $ 100 dollars just to get in, then cover charges, then drink charges? As an eloquent friend of mine is fond of saying«For that much money they better suck my d**k, change the sheets, wash, fold, then put away the laundry too, shiiiiii…».

I went here for my first time Friday night when Laidback Luke was in town. He was awesome! I don’t really listen to a lot of DJing-type music, but hearing someone who is really good makes you change. His confidence, adaptability, and connection to the crowd are traits all DJs should aspire to achieving. We parked a few blocks away, where there’s free street parking. My friend bought tickets in advance online, so he paid about $ 13 for each ticket to get us in. This way, we didn’t have to stand in line. All we had to do was bypass the line, show the bouncer guy our tickets and IDs, and we were in. There was a second line, I suppose to double-check people had tickets. If you didn’t buy tickets in advance, they were $ 20 each. I didn’t drink(not even water) at the club, so I can’t tell you anything about the service or prices. I liked the spacious layout very much, which reminded me of some of the clubs in Cancun. The dance floor is downstairs with two bars. Upstairs there is a balcony where you can overlook the dance floor and see the DJ on stage. We spent most of our time here because my friend wanted to study Luke. There is also another room upstairs just for hip-hop and R&B music in the back; I liked the décor, especially seats looking like stereos. A back outdoor patio is downstairs, and it reminded me of Poison Girl’s back patio(small but cozy). Dress code is casual. Be prepared to see ladies in high uncomfortable heels and sneakers. Some even wore denim shorts, and I envied them(since I was wearing heels). So, come comfortable! Also, note just because the alcohol sales stop at 2AM doesn’t mean the crowd stops dancing and the DJ stops spinning. We left at 3AM, and the party was still going. I wouldn’t mind coming here again.

im fan of rich’s bc it’s the only place where they play the music that i like. there is nothing glamorous about rich’s. in fact, it is anti-glamorous to the point where i dont understand why girls dress up in short skirts and killer heels to go here. if you like hip hop and you’re 18+, go during regular hours 10pm-2am. the place is packed, hot and sweaty, with plenty of booty shaking and hip grinding. kinda like Roxy during the 90’s. they even serve drinks in plastic cups. if you like techno, dance, house, trance, then go on saturday nights afterhours. and so, that’s when i go. if you dont want to wait in line, tip the bouncer. i heard he gives you back change if you tip him too much, how nice! wear clothes you would mow your lawn in, bc everything including your skin will smell of smoke and sweat when you leave. ladies, be prepared to be hit on by low lifes. it’s just a part of the scene. other than that, rich’s is fun from 2am to 4am. i hear there’s lounges upstairs with different rooms and music. i was too busy raving away downstairs.
